The disappearance of a fearless female Palestinian-Australian slam poet triggers suspense and powerful social and political commentary in “Slam,” an outstanding slow-burn thriller by expat Indian filmmaker Partho Sen-Gupta (“Sunrise”). Starring Palestinian actor Adam Bakri as the missing woman’s conflicted brother, and leading Aussie performer Rachael Blake as a troubled cop, Opening Down Under on Oct. 17 after generating plenty of buzz at Sydney and Melbourne film festivals earlier this year, “Slam” has valuable things to say about the times in which we live and deserves to be seen on a much wider stage.
“Slam” slams into action with Ameena Nasser (Danielle Horvat) staring into the camera. Wearing a headscarf and addressing her speech “to mother,” Ameena delivers a ferocious denunciation of colonization, patriarchy, intolerance and the misuse of power, all the while asserting her right and need as a woman to speak out. At first her delivery has the...

At some point on Thursday afternoon, fabled music publicist Mitch Schneider says he just stopped receiving new emails. His inbox went stagnant soon after news of iconic musician Prince's death broke online. "My email has completely stopped, which hasn't actually happened since 9/11," Schneider tells People. "I think folks throughout the music industry are simply stunned right now. It's hard not to feel like something has been taken from you, and taken without warning." Schneider, the president and CEO for the Los Angeles-based Mitch Schneider Organization, says he represented Prince during the early to mid-1990s, when the music legend released three separate LPs.

Dori Oskowitz has signed on to direct an untitled indie film about the origins of the global rave movement in 1980s Dallas.
It was a time when the drug ecstasy, then known as 'Molly,' was legal and fueled a social phenomenon across all demographics from gay discos to yuppy dinner parties to college frat parties. The movement then vanished after ecstasy became illegal in 1985.
Richard Stratton ("Slam," "Street Time") will pen the script while Braxton Pope will produce. Also involved are former NBA player Steve Nash and Dallas-based music producer Wade Randolph Hampton (aka DJ WishFM).

The “Insane Icon,” is “Done.”
The most hyped story this week was Sting saying On Twitter that he was “Done.” Not via Tna TV or anything, Via Twitter. Because that’s how professionals deal with major announcements these days. Robert Roode announced early in the show that Sting was going to appear. Thing is that since they announced Roode’s title match against Storm was going to be at the PPV in April rather than the next one in March, they made it a bit obvious that something was going to go down at Victory Road in March. Otherwise why wouldn’t the title match just happen at Victory Road?
In the closing segment Sting came out as promised to address the Tweet that shook the world. Roode made his second appearance of the night to interrupt. Sting immediately converted over to Whacky Insane Icon Sting...

As always, last week gets recapped. But you read that last week right? Right!?
We pick up backstage where Jeff Hardy is beating down Bully Ray in that are that they always seem to be taking photos. They brawl past that with some terribly unrealistic punches and out to another backstage area. Just in time, Roode pulls up in his beautiful white truck and jumps Hardy with Bully. Bully drops a piece of wood on Jeff’s leg that looks like it weighs less than a sponge. They throw him in the back of the truck, but then James Storm comes out of nowhere and gets involved. He throws Storm through a barricade then smacks Bully with a Plastic bottle. I should note there’s a lot of needless grunting going on. Then, Sting comes into the picture and takes a bat to Roode’s stomach.

Bobby Roode is still your Tna Champion after Genesis, and he’s gracing us with his presence. As the fans chant “Hardy,” Roode tells us he’s the most dominant champion in the history of Impact! Roode says he’s not going to embarrass him anymore, and brings him out to “humbly accept his defeat” and shake Roode’s hand. Instead it’s Sting’s music that plays and out comes the Icon. Sting and Roode share some weird caveman insults which somehow garners a “Spank his butt” chant from the crowd. Sting calls Roode out for getting intentionally disqualified and tells him tonight he defends again against Jeff Hardy! Sting is out, and Roode throws a tantrum.
Earlier today, Matt Morgan met Crimson coming out of Direct Insurance and they gave him a Great Deal. Morgan says they’ve been amazing with his family for years.

Great news, cultural anthropologists: The 2011 Gathering of the Juggalos is just around the corner, and this year, it looks like it's going to be bigger (and slightly more terrifying) than ever!
Or at least that's what we're gathering from the epic infomercial the Insane Clown Posse just unveiled for this year's Gathering, a "Star-Wars" themed mini-movie that features "Hatchet Happenings" correspondents Sweet Sugar Slam, DJ Clay and, uh, Vanilla Ice wearing alien makeup and shouting a lot (and, it should be noted, when he's screaming lines like "We talkin' about good times and hard rhymes, motherf----!" Ice's commitment to the role approaches Daniel Day-Lewis levels of intensity), not to mention the lineup itself, which, no lie, is actually pretty amazing.
Sure, there's the usual assortment of creatively-named Psychopathic Records acts on the bill (Twiztid, Boondox, Blaze Ya Dead Homie) and a weekend-capping performance from Icp themselves, but...

First up, DGA President Michael Apted - himself an acclaimed documentarian, with the seven films (to date) in his 7 Up series complementing his narrative film career - welcomed the audience, celebrating the documentary films that 'inform, illuminate, and influence' audiences. Director Marc Levin (Slam) introduced the first panel with a clip reel, highlighting films from filmmakers whose work might be categorized as observational documentary - 'directors [who are] defenders of the very idea of creative rights and visions' in this era where such visions can be stifled. Last year, the Insane Clown Posse took the Internet by storm when they released an informercial advertising the Gathering, the annual festival curated and hosted by Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J. Tonight, Sundance Channel premieres "Brick City," the reality docu-drama about New Jersey's largest city in transition and the very real people at the forefront of that change. Among them are Oprah-endorsed mayor Cory Booker, who previously starred in his own documentary, "Street Fight." Four years later, his street fighting is again at the forefront, while he joins police, politicIans, and the people in stopping crime on his New Jersey streets.
Director Marc Levin said the gangs who still inhabit New Jersey actually gave him and his partner, Mark Benjamin, the idea for the gripping series, which doubled in scope from a few 30-minute episodes to five 1-hour documentaries, airing each night this week.

You may find the roots of the global economic meltdown on Wall Street, but Marc Levin might suggest looking further uptown in Manhattan for the most dramatic microcosm of the ongoing crisis: The Garment District. The prolific director Levin (Slam, Mr. Untouchable) was in Toronto on this week for the debut of his new docuementary Schmatta: Rags to Riches to Rags (premiering Oct. 19 on HBO), which outlines both the history and demise of famous manufacturing zone over the last century -- and, more specifically, the last decade of outsourcing, layoffs and other industry devastation. According to Levin, you need look no further than the New York's recently completed Fashion Week for the first hints.

"Brick City" will center on Newark Mayor Cory Booker, local citizens and key figures from real estate developers to former gang members as they try to remake the city, working to stamp out violence, poverty and corruption and make improvements in housing, employment and education.
Levin ("Slam") and Benjamin ("The Last Party") also direct the series, which will debut with six half-hour episodes in third-quarter 2009. The series will take place over the span of about a year so viewers can see whether things in Newark change.
