Claro que la cinta tiene vicios muy vistos en el mainstream patriotero hollywoodense porque muestra mucho el heroísmo del pueblo norteamericano, el humanismo sensibilizador de algunos héroes que casualmente también son estadounidenses, y que el resto del mundo ante una catástrofe de tal magnitud prácticamente no existe ni aporta ideas de solución... Pero también hay que reconocer que la cinta en los últimos pasajes posee grandísimos efectos especiales, goza además de buenas interpretaciones, no resulta para nada edulcorada porque es tremenda en algunas secuencias, posee bastante desarrollo del perfil psicológico de las personas ante una tragedia de exorbitante magnitud más que dedicarse a la acción, y también reconozcámosle el valor de su mensaje sobre que el amor puede sobrellevar incluso la idea de la muerte... Pues entonces estamos en presencia de una cinta equilibrada, donde sus méritos apenas desequilibran la balanza a favor de una cinta entretenida, que tiene buen ritmo, que no se permite tremendas licencias y que como cine industrial sobre catástrofes bien vale la pena estando avisados y pudiendo tolerar sus vicios.
