Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • Teenagers are shown throwing firecrackers and some are thrown near a man telling them to stop. One lands in a river and causes a medium size explosion.
  • The plot of the film involves a trial about whether or not children were killed by a pollutant in a town's water supply. The children's deaths is a very thematic issue, but no violence is shown.
  • One scene in particular involves a married couple pulling over on a highway road in the pouring rain, trying desperately to revive their son, who mysteriously (and suspiciously thanks to the pollution) stops breathing and dies. The dad cries and the mom screams out in agony; the shadow of her rocking her dead son in her arms is briefly seen in the car, and again in a recreation scene.
  • The main character throws things in his office while frustrated and angry, but no one is hurt.

Profanity

  • 1-2 uses of the "f-word" and several milder profanities like "damn," "shit," and "hell."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some minor drinking, including celebratory champagne and drinks while chatting.
  • Several character smoke cigarettes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Much of the movie has a very somber and deep reading feeling.
  • A major plot point of the film revolves around the death of children, and scenes involving this are very emotional.
