  Max : So what?

  Max : You're a whale?

  Max : My dad's a salmon boat captain.

• Drew : [watching Jesse play his harmonica]  What are you doing?

  Jesse : Making a call.

  [Jesse uses the keyboard to replicate the notes he played on the harmonica] 

  Jesse : Willy likes the sound of my harmonica playing. When he hears it, he knows it's me.

  Drew : Oh, so you think your gonna play that sound on the hydrophone.

  Jesse : [playing the keyboard]  Uh huh.

  Drew : And he's just gonna come running?

  Jesse : [nods]  Uh huh.

  Drew : From miles away?

  Jesse : Yeah.

• Jesse : Those guys have already left. They're going after the whole pod tonight! Willy, Nicky, Nicky's baby... Can I ask you a question?

  Randolph : Ten years in jail.

  Jesse : What?

  Randolph : The penalty for "borrowing" a boat that doesn't belong to you. It's called piracy. Ten years in jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200 dollars.

  Jesse : You're right. It was a bad idea.

  Randolph : [stops walking]  Let's do it.

• Randolph : You have any idea what they'll do to you if they catch you?

  [cut Jesse at Botany Bay] 

  Jesse : You know what they're gonna do to Willy if they catch him?

  Randolph : [voice]  Right now I'm more worried about you than I am about Willy.

• Jesse : Thanks for all you've done.

  Captain Drake : Ah, it was nothing.

  Randolph : [sarcastically]  No kidding

• Drew : It's not what I would have done.

  Randolph : What do you mean?

  Drew : I mean... Some guy tries to kill me, I wouldn't have save his life. I would've bit his butt.

  Jesse : Well, maybe he's smarter than we are.

  Randolph : Or more human.

  Jesse : [watching Willy and Nicky swim off]  Willy's gonna make a good father. Don't you think?

  Randolph : When the time comes.

  Max : [about Willy and Nicky's calf]  What are you gonna name him?

  Randolph : What do you say Jesse?

  Jesse : I don't know. What do you say?

  Max : Me?

  Jesse : Yeah.

  Max : I say we name him after his dad.

  Jesse : Well, I say we name him Max.

• Jesse : Listen. They're close. It's quite a sound isn't it?

  Max : Yeah.

  Jesse : Do you know an orca is mostly water?

  Max : Sure.

  Jesse : But did you know that when he sings, you can feel the beat of his song. In time with the waves.

  Max : Why do they do that?

  Jesse : I say it's because they're good musicians, but a friend of mine thinks differently. He says the whole Earth is breathing. And that their song is the Earth breathing.

• Jesse : Randolph?

  Randolph : Hmm?

  Jesse : Thanks.

  Randolph : For what?

  Jesse : For talking Glen and Annie into letting me go.

  Randolph : I promised them I'd keep you out of trouble.

  Jesse : And they believed you?

  [Randolph chuckles] 

• [Jesse and Max laugh at Drew's black eye from the camcorder as payback for goving the former a pair of black eyes] 

  Jesse : I like it, Drew. It brings out your eyes. Well, one of them, at least.

• Jesse : [about Drake]  That guy's a jerk.

  Randolph : You're right. He's a jerk.

  Drew : You just notice this?

  Jesse : I thought you're gonna tell me he's doing his job.

  Drew : Well he is just doing his job.

  Jesse : The whalers are just doing their jobs. We're just gonna follow orders and do nothing to stop them. It's not a problem.

  Drew : Keep this up, you're gonna get me fired.

• Drew : What you say your name was?

  Jesse : Jesse.

  Drew : Your name's not Willy?

  Jesse : Willy's a whale.

  [Randolph laughs and reaches his arm out. Drew hands Randolph a pizza slice] 

  Jesse : Randolph, tell her who I am.

  Randolph : I've never seen this kid before in my life.

  [Randolph takes a bite of his slice] 

  Randolph : Good pizza.

  Drew : [eating pizza]  You didn't tell me he's so young.

  Randolph : He's not so young.

  [Drew sarcastically leaves] 

  Jesse : Wait a minute. Listen, I'll do anything. I'm just here to learn. I'll do whatever you tell me.

  [Randolph chuckles] 

  Drew : Oh we're gonna get along just fine then. What you say your name was?

  Jesse : Jesse.

  Drew : Okay, Jesse. Help me get this gear down below.

  Jesse : Alright.

• Jesse : You have to call this in.

  Captain Drake : Kid, there's nothing to call in.

  Jesse : You saw it yourself. Willy went after that boat. He was defending himself. They attacked him.

  [Botany Bay leaves] 

  Captain Drake : They know that for a fact.

  Jesse : It's obvious. If you'd open your eyes..Sir.

  Captain Drake : Botany Bay checks out. It's a registered salmon boat. It's Captain, John Wesley, is licensed and his record his clean.

  Jesse : You're right. If they were whalers, they'd have a big neon sign saying, "Arrest me, I kill whales". Hello?

• Max : [thinking Jesse's looking at him]  What?

  Jesse : I've never seen him take anybody like that before. Except once.

  Max : [noticing Jesse is looking at Willy]  I thought maybe he was like that with everyone.

  Jesse : Nah. He's only like that with family.

  Max : Well, I'm not his family.

  Jesse : Tell him that.
