- Bud's previous owner is abusive to him and is shown yelling at him and threatening him with a rolled up newspaper.
- Bullying and some rough handling of an animal. Supposedly no animal was hurt in filming, but filmed appearance of potential injury is strong.
- Not intense, but worth noting for some viewers: The recently deceased father is a recurring theme in this movie, as it is the basis for the boys sadness and need for companionship.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
- One scene of boy trying to "let go" of dog (set him free to keep him safe) is pretty emotionally intense and may raise questions from younger viewers. (my 5 year old talked about this for days after watching)
