Slow-moving and agreeable film about troubled relations , love , illness and redemption
ma-cortes13 October 2021
A free adaptation based on the successful novel titled ¨Todas Las Almas¨ by Javier Marias . It tells the tale of a Spanish professor (Gary Piquer) at Oxford University who stands at home his friend Cromer Blake (Ben Cross) , where lives also his sister Jill (Cathy Underwood) and her litle child (Perdita Weeks) . Things go wrong when he witnesses the return of another peculiar professor (William Franklyn) at the University with fateful consequences.

A sensitive and enjoyable movie about loving reationships , deep sentiment and redemption by displaying notable interpretations. It is paced by means of flashbacks in which starring Robert Rylands/William Franklyn confesses to the police comissioner Kenneth Colley past events . A thought-provoking and interesting movie that will appeal to dramatic flicks enthusiasts . However , the notorious writer Javier Marias disauthorized the film due to the screenwriters : Gracia and Elias Querejeta modified extremely the original characters , that's why the movie resulted to be really controversial . A cast mostly British giving formidable acting and adding the Spanish Gary Piquer . As a very good cast as Ben Cross , William Franklyn , Cathy Underwood , Kenneth Colley , Gary Piquer , all of them shine in their magnificentley performed characters . Being fillm debut of the newcomer little girl Perdita Weeks to be continued a successful career and Maurice Denham's final movie .

Here stands out the colorful cinematography by Antonio Pueche , shot in Oxford , Oxfordshire , of course . As well as touching and emotive musical score by Angel Illaramendi . The picture was well produced by the prestigious producer Elias Querejeta , being well directed by his daughter , Gracia Querejeta (Ola de Crimenes, 15 años y un dia, Invisibles, Siete meses de Billar Frances , Una Estacion de Paso, Cuando Vuelvas a mi Lado, Hector) . Rating : 6.5/10. Worthwhile watching .
