Tough, unyielding TV-movie with some over-the-top flourishes...
moonspinner555 July 2006
TV-made dramas usually treat psychiatric problems with the usual two-hour philosophies, hand-wringing and hopeful cures, but this one does not. It presents a case history of a wife and mother suffering from multiple personality disorder with very little nonsense. Heather Locklear's lead performance is gripping, tough and sad; of course it's wrong to think she's not a real "actress" just because she's pretty, but who would've thought her capable of such raw emotions and depth? She has a fine director behind her (Stephen Gyllenhaal, who did riveting work with Barbara Hershey in "A Killing In A Small Town") and together they create a world of night becoming day becoming night becoming day that is this character's existence. A side-plot about pool-hall prostitution is sketchily drawn, and Locklear's relationship with her late father (and his dirty doings) is left too vague, but the overall impact of the narrative is carried out with incredible style. It packs a wallop. *** from ****

Locklear is very convincing

Shattered Mind,AKA The terror Inside stars Heather Locklear as a woman tormented by multiple personalities.Locklear is very convincing here,in a very non glamorous role.the movie is engrossing at times, but very dreary and depressing.it's also hard to follow at times and ,moves ponderously slow.it's hard to watch,to say the least.i don't think it's a movie you could enjoy, but i think it's enlightening.the performances are all good.the problem is,the story is almost all hopeless despair, with no real bright side.i think it would have been better if there had been a few lighter moments, though i realize it's not always easy to do with this type of movie.it's a made for TV movie, but it's very well made.because of that and the performances, especially Locklear,i give Shattered Mind a 7/10

Excellent portrayal of dissociative identity disorder (MPD)
Kathges8 April 2002
This is the best portrayal I've yet seen of dissociative identity disorder (formerly called multiple personality disorder); it is NOT about schizophrenia.

The actress is very accurate as she portrays "switching" from one "alter" to another -- It's a bit exaggerated in portraying the woman as having a second life as a prostitute, such "florid" presentations of MPD are 5% or less.

Great movie, not sensationalist like some.

ok performance

Heather Locklears performance about a woman with multiple personalities was quite a good account of this well known condition, and all her characters were completely different and she switched from them with great ease, but i did think of one of her characters being a hooker was maby going a little to far, but Heathers brilliant acting pulled it off
