  [takes money out of Cage's hand] 

  Liu Kang : ...I got it.

  Johnny Cage : Good.

  [Liu Kang picks up a suitcase and throws it in the water, then smiles at Cage while walking away. Cage watches his suitcase sink] 

  Johnny Cage : Well, thank God I didn't ask him to park the car...

• Lord Rayden : [approaching Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Sonya, and Kitana]  I've been waiting for you! What took you so long?

  Liu Kang : I guess you knew it would end this way.

  Lord Rayden : Didn't have a clue. You humans are so unpredictable.

• Shang Tsung : Johnny Cage! I challenge you.

  Liu Kang : No! You'll fight me. I am Liu Kang, descendent of Kung Lao. I challenge you to Mortal Kombat. Do you accept or yield?

  Shang Tsung : [bitter]  I accept.

• Liu Kang : [At Grandfather]  I had enough of this. I'm going to find my brother's killer at the tournament, with or without your consent.

  Grandfather : [At Lord Rayden]  He isn't ready, my lord, and we lost so much time.

  Lord Rayden : I know, but there's no one else.

• Liu Kang : All those souls and you still don't have one of your own. I pity you sorcerer.

  Shang Tsung : [Enraged]  Save your pity for THE WEAK!

• Liu Kang : You can look into my soul, but you don't own it.

• Liu Kang : Shang Tsung killed my brother!

  Shang Tsung : You're mine!

• Liu Kang : [trailer only]  You can't run from me, Shang!

  [to Liu Kang] 

  Chief Priest : Why have you come back?

  Liu Kang : I want to represent The Order of Light at the tournament.

  Chief Priest : For what reason?

  Liu Kang : The man who killed my brother will be there.

  Chief Priest : That cannot be your only reason for going, or you will fail!

  Liu Kang : [sarcastically]  Oh yes, I forgot. We're fighting for the fate of the world!

  Lord Rayden : That's why you left the temple and ran away, isn't it? The great tournament was too much responsibility. But vengeance... that's so much simpler.

  Grandfather : Lord Rayden!

  [suddenly bows] 

  Lord Rayden : You're still running away from your destiny.

• Lord Rayden : You must first face your fears if you are to conquer them. You, Johnny, are afraid you're a fake, so you'll rush into any fight just to prove you're not. You'll fight bravely enough, but foolishly... carelessly... and you'll be beaten. You, Sonya, are afraid to admit that even you sometimes need help. If you are afraid to trust, you will lose.

  [goes to leave; Liu Kang follows] 

  Liu Kang : Wait. Wait! What about me?

  Lord Rayden : Oh, you. You fear your own destiny. You already fled it once when you went to America. It has brought you guilt for the death of your brother.

  Liu Kang : I AM responsible for Chan's death.

  Lord Rayden : No. Every mortal is responsible for his own destiny. Chan believed this. Why can't you?

  Liu Kang : I tried.

  Lord Rayden : Despair's the most dangerous fear of all. I know this, and so does Shang Tsung. He can peer into your soul and use the fear he sees there against you. You must be prepared.

• Liu Kang : It wasn't my fault! Chan chose his own path... every man is responsible for his own destiny. SHANG TSUNG KILLED MY BROTHER!

• Goro : To what do we owe the honor of your visit, Shang Tsung?

  Shang Tsung : I've come to warn you that Kung Lao's descendant is competing in the tournament. You must handle him carefully.

  Goro : I saw this Liu Kang in the hall, he'll pose no problem.

  Shang Tsung : This is no time for foolish pride! We have never been so close to absolute victory, which is why I've come to warn you of another danger... Princess Kitana.

  Goro : The Emperor's adopted daughter? Why should I worry about her?

  Shang Tsung : Princess Kitana is 10,000 years old and the rightful heir to the throne of Outworld, but she must not be allowed to join with the forces of the realm of Earth, especially Liu Kang.

  Johnny Cage : [whispering]  What's so special about you?

  Liu Kang : [whispering]  I don't know.

  Shang Tsung : The Emperor will not tolerate failure... and neither will I.

  Goro : I do not FAIL!

• Lord Rayden : So you're going to win the tournament?

  Liu Kang : Yes, I am.

  Lord Rayden : Show me how.

  [Liu Kang moves towards him, but is stopped by his grandfather] 

  Lord Rayden : Oh. Don't tell me you're afraid of a... simple beggar?

  [Liu Kang rushes to attack Rayden, but is countered and thrown to the ground. Liu Kang looks up to see lightning in Rayden's eyes] 

  Liu Kang : If you ARE Rayden, why did you let Chan die? Why didn't you protect him?

  Lord Rayden : Why didn't you?

• Johnny Cage : Rayden, can Sonya beat Shang Tsung?

  Lord Rayden : No. I'm sorry.

  Johnny Cage : You're sorry?

  Lord Rayden : There is one last rule, he neglected to mention it.

  Liu Kang : [realizing]  She has to accept the challenge or there can be no Final Kombat!

  Lord Rayden : I have nothing further to teach you, Liu Kang. You possess the knowledge. All that is lacking now is the will.

  Johnny Cage : You sure you don't want to go with us?

  Lord Rayden : In Outworld, if you look hard enough, you will find another guide.

  [Johnny Cage and Liu Kang walk up to the doorway] 

  Lord Rayden : Good luck!

  [the portal takes both of them to Outworld] 

  Lord Rayden : [to himself]  They'll need it.

• Lord Rayden : [saving Liu Kang, Sonya, and Johnny Cage from Scorpion and Sub-Zero]  ENOUGH!

  Shang Tsung : Lord Rayden. How good of you to grace us with your... presence.

  Lord Rayden : Your sideshow freaks attacked my fighters. That is expressly forbidden before the tournament... as your Emperor well knows.

  Shang Tsung : My sincere apologies. It won't happen again, I promise you.

  Lord Rayden : [unconvinced]  I shall see to that.

  Shang Tsung : Of course... until we reach the island, where you have no dominion.

  Lord Rayden : My dominions are well known to me, sorcerer. Thank you.

  Sonya Blade : What tournament?

  Shang Tsung : You've been chosen, Sonya...

  [grins] 

  Shang Tsung : Much to my delight.

  [leaves] 

  Liu Kang : [amazed]  You really ARE Rayden!

  Lord Rayden : Come with me.

  [teleports away]
