Johnny Cage : Well, THERE'S your rational explanation.

Lord Rayden : What have you done?
Johnny Cage : I made a choice. This is OUR tournament, remember? Mortal Kombat. WE fight it!
[Johnny leaves, Rayden smiles]
Lord Rayden : Good. At last one of them has understood.

Johnny Cage : Hey, pal! When the ship comes in, could you put these on board?
Liu Kang : You want me to carry your luggage?
Johnny Cage : Yeah. I pay money, you carry the bags, or is that too complicated?

[takes money out of Cage's hand]
Liu Kang : ...I got it.
Johnny Cage : Good.
[Liu Kang picks up a suitcase and throws it in the water, then smiles at Cage while walking away. Cage watches his suitcase sink]
Johnny Cage : Well, thank God I didn't ask him to park the car...

Lord Rayden : [appears before Cage, Sonya and Liu Kang] Listen, what you are about to face is for more important than...

Lord Rayden : your ego

Lord Rayden : your enemy

Lord Rayden : or your quest for revenge. You're about to embark on a secret mission. You have been chosen to defend the realm of Earth. In a tournament called Mortal Kombat.
Sonya Blade : Defend it from who?
Lord Rayden : Your world is but one of many realms. One of them is a forsaken land called Outworld, ruled by an immortal who has crowned himself Emperor. Now he seeks a new world to conquer and enslave.
Johnny Cage : Now, wait a second. If this guy is so powerful, then why doesn't he just invade us?
Lord Rayden : To enter the realm of Earth, The Emperor's demon sorcerer Shang Tsung and his warriors have to win ten straight victories in Mortal Kombat.
[chuckles]
Lord Rayden : They have won nine. This will be the tenth tournament.

Cage : [Takes first look inside the weird temple] Gee, I wonder what the bathroom looks like.

Johnny Cage : [Johnny Cage, Liu Kang, and Sonya see a shadow of Goro loom upon a stone wall as he roars]
[whispering]
Johnny Cage : Sonya, you go on ahead... find out WHAT that was. Liu and I will stay here.
Sonya Blade : [whispering] WHAT?

Johnny Cage : [Seeing someone sitting in his chair] Hey, mister. You're in my chair.
Master Boyd : [Reading a Tabloid, and lowering it to reveal himself] Hi, Johnny.
Johnny Cage : Oh, Master Boyd.
Master Boyd : I can see that the press is still giving you a hard time.
Johnny Cage : Yeah, they think I'm a fake.
Master Boyd : Johnny, you are one of the best martial artists in the world, and I can help you prove it.
Johnny Cage : Prove it? How?
Master Boyd : A tournament, "THE" tournament.
[Hands him an invitation]
Master Boyd : It's held once a generation. The best fighters in the world are invited. You win the tournament, you win their respect. They'll tell the whole world, that you're the real goods.
Johnny Cage : So, how do I...
Master Boyd : There's a boat, it leaves Hong Kong tomorrow, be on it.

Sonya Blade : I will not fight you, Shang Tsung. I'm not playing your game.
Shang Tsung : Sonya. My sweet Sonya... there's no one else. If you don't fight, the Realm of Earth will forfeit the tournament. And its portals will open to our great Emperor.
Sonya Blade : You're lying. My friends will come for me.
Shang Tsung : Hoping against hope. Such an endearing human trait. I'm touched... really. One last chance, Sonya. Fight me in Mortal Kombat.
Sonya Blade : Go to Hell.
Shang Tsung : [to his priests] Take her away. The Emperor will be overjoyed.
Sonya Blade : My friends will come!
Johnny Cage : [revealing himself] They're already here.

Shang Tsung : [Johnny Cage is about to fight Goro] Finish him quickly. Pay me my tribute.
Goro : This puny mortal will be no problem. I'll crush him with one blow.
Johnny Cage : All right? Let's dance.

Johnny Cage : This is not good... but I'm fine... I can handle this... So this is Outworld, huh? Well, I can see why they want a change of scenery!

Sonya Blade : Goro's never been beaten. You go up against him, he'll kill you.
Johnny Cage : Well, if I don't, then he'll finish us off one at a time. If I challenge him now, I can finish this.
Sonya Blade : You're making this all sound really simple, and it isn't.
Johnny Cage : Yeah, it is. 'Cause I can't let what happened to Art happen to you. Not to you.
Sonya Blade : Oh, don't you dare do this to protect me, Johnny Cage.
Johnny Cage : Trust me, I've got a plan.
Sonya Blade : Oh, I don't believe this! You are the most egotistical, self-deluded person I have ever met!
Johnny Cage : Yeah? Well, you forgot 'good looking.'

Shang Tsung : Challenging Goro eh? You weren't supposed to fight him now. Are you THAT eager to die?
Cage : I'm not the one who's gonna die.
Shang Tsung : I see. You're very foolish. A true sign of a hero. You want to protect your friends, but make no mistake; they too will die, after Goro destroys you.
Cage : So what's the problem?
Shang Tsung : As you wish. As absurd as your request is I shall grant it. In return, I reserve the right to challenge the winner myself... or another of my choosing. In a place designated by me for the final battle of the tournament.
Cage : You got it pal.

Johnny Cage : [after Rayden saves the trio from several ninjas] You're lucky he stopped us.

Goro : To what do we owe the honor of your visit, Shang Tsung?
Shang Tsung : I've come to warn you that Kung Lao's descendant is competing in the tournament. You must handle him carefully.
Goro : I saw this Liu Kang in the hall, he'll pose no problem.
Shang Tsung : This is no time for foolish pride! We have never been so close to absolute victory, which is why I've come to warn you of another danger... Princess Kitana.
Goro : The Emperor's adopted daughter? Why should I worry about her?
Shang Tsung : Princess Kitana is 10,000 years old and the rightful heir to the throne of Outworld, but she must not be allowed to join with the forces of the realm of Earth, especially Liu Kang.
Johnny Cage : [whispering] What's so special about you?
Liu Kang : [whispering] I don't know.
Shang Tsung : The Emperor will not tolerate failure... and neither will I.
Goro : I do not FAIL!

Johnny Cage : Rayden, can Sonya beat Shang Tsung?
Lord Rayden : No. I'm sorry.
Johnny Cage : You're sorry?
Lord Rayden : There is one last rule, he neglected to mention it.
Liu Kang : [realizing] She has to accept the challenge or there can be no Final Kombat!
Lord Rayden : I have nothing further to teach you, Liu Kang. You possess the knowledge. All that is lacking now is the will.
Johnny Cage : You sure you don't want to go with us?
Lord Rayden : In Outworld, if you look hard enough, you will find another guide.
[Johnny Cage and Liu Kang walk up to the doorway]
Lord Rayden : Good luck!
[the portal takes both of them to Outworld]
Lord Rayden : [to himself] They'll need it.
