It’s hard to believe that the same year George A. Romero released Day of the Dead, the ultra-gory, ultra-bleak conclusion of the trilogy he began with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, writer/director Dan O’Bannon was spinning Romero’s original classic into a totally new direction with The Return of the Living Dead. Whereas Romero’s film is dark and sober, Return is pure punk rock anarchy—a horror comedy that successfully manages to be equal parts horror and comedy while introducing one of the most significant elements into the zombie mythos since Romero first made them flesh-eaters 17 years earlier.
The film’s ingenious premise—which was “meta” before being meta was really a thing—is that the events of the original Night of the Living Dead really did take place and were covered up, with the zombies locked into airtight drums and left in the basement of a medical supply facility.

With iZombie recently having concluded its phenomenal second season, many fans have probably been wondering when they will be able to add it to their shelves. On July 12, you’ll be able to view all 19 episodes of the sophomore season on either DVD or Blu-Ray, but there’s a catch: only the DVD set will find its way into retail stores, while the Blu-Ray will be released online via Warner Archive and can be purchased through Amazon and other such sites.
Furthermore, the first season will finally see a Blu-Ray release that very same day, which will also be available exclusively online. Fans of the show have been clamoring to see it in all of its brain eating glory on Blu-Ray since last year, so it’s good that WB came through. Season One had previously seen only a DVD release and is not exactly the...

No other show during this TV season has been as consistent as iZombie. The CW series delivered thrilling episode after thrilling episode every week during its Season 2 run, and it somehow found a way to up the ante even more in tonight’s action-packed, two-hour finale. There’s so much packed into both “Dead Beat” and “Salivation Army” that it’s difficult to decide where to start. After last week’s episode ended with Major getting arrested for being the Chaos Killer, viewers wondered how he would be able to get out of jail. What possible way could Liv find to ensure Major’s release?

It looks as though every plot thread established on iZombie will explode in grand fashion when the two-hour season finale arrives next week. One view of the extended preview, which can be seen at the top of the page, will likely cause fans to countdown the days.
As we can see in the trailer, things aren’t going all too well for Major, who was arrested at the end of last night’s episode. Seeing as how he has reverted back to zombie form, going without adequate brain food could ultimately prove dangerous for both he and his fellow inmates. We all remember how rough it was for Liv when she found herself temporarily incarcerated earlier this season.
It also looks like we need to keep our eyes on those rowdy looking zombies in Max Rager’s secret basement. Will they break free and take a tour of the city?...

Do you like zombies and hate cancer? If so, then Zombie Apocalypse II “Cancer fears the D!” is an event you’d likely dig. Taking place in Detroit at the Tangent Gallery/Hastings Street Ballroom on June 28th, this event benefits the American Cancer Society via The Walking Hope. In addition to an abundance of entertainment for a good cause, fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead should be really excited by one of the items up for auction at the fundraiser.
While enjoyers of the The Walking Dead have been able to get autographs from a good amount of the cast over the past year or so at conventions, even the most die-hard fans would be hard-pressed to get an item signed by 25 people affiliated with the hit AMC show. Perhaps the most prized possession at the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse II, The Walking Hope hoodie features the signatures of...

The zombie takeover of TV continues: Sunday's season-three premiere of The Walking Dead drew a drop-dead amazing 10.9 million viewers to AMC at 9 p.m., shattering all sorts of records in the process. Not only was it the most-watched episode ever of the show, it was also the most-watched episode of any basic cable drama series ever. And among viewers under 50, Dead drew 7.3 million viewers, garnering higher Nielsen numbers than stalwarts such as Modern Family, The Voice, and The Big Bang Theory. Want more superlatives? Okay: Not only did Dead beat every entertainment show on network TV Sunday, it was also up 20 percent from last spring's season two finale (9 million) and a jaw-dropping 50 percent versus last fall's season two debut (7.3 million). Also, if you toss in last night's encore telecasts, Dead actually reached 15.2 million viewers (with more to be counted via DVR and...

The Beat writer's masterpiece On the Road has been made into a film. But why has it taken 55 years to get it on to the screen?
Age: Died in 1969, aged 47.
Appearance: Dead Beat.
Who was he? A leading novelist and poet of the Beat Generation.
Oh right. That explains "Dead Beat". Yep.
Very funny. Thanks.
And why are we talking about him now? His novel On the Road has finally made it to the big screen.
The one about all the road trips? The semi-autobiographical one in which Kerouac – under the pseudonym Sal Paradise – drives across America and later Mexico with his new friend Dean Moriarty – a pseudonym for fellow Beat figure Neal Cassady – on a hedonistic quest for identity, freedom and some form of lasting happiness.
Didn't he write it all in just three weeks on a single long roll of paper? He did, in 1951, or so the story goes,...

I can't tell you how groovy the timing was for the release of It Was a Dark and Stormy Night, the long-awaited sophomore release from La horror rockers Creature Feature. With the most wonderful time of the year upon us, I was down in the catacombs shuffling up tracks for my Ultimate Halloween Party Playlist, and adding the entire album Dead Beat by Rufus Rex, the solo project from Creature Feature frontman Curtis Rx (check out my chat with him here)... when suddenly Curtis showed up again to present me with yet another bag of treats, in the form of ten new songs from his main band (Curtis on vocals and guitars, Erik X on keys). Their superb 2007 debut The Greatest Show Unearthed is one of those rare and special albums that just...

If you're a fan of truly unique horror music, The Greatest Show Unearthed from La-based band Creature Feature should be on your short list of all-time favorite albums. (Be sure to check out our CD review here.) Since that auspicious 2007 debut, the band has gained a large following – partly because band founder Curtis Rx has done a great job providing fans with all sorts of ghoulish goodies. Between multi-media projects and recording the band's follow-up release, Curtis somehow found time to create an entire solo album, under the handle Rufus Rex. Entitled Dead Beat, this record is partly based on his own feature film screenplay... which may still become a movie someday, but for now it's ready to rock the earth in...

Author: Remy Porter.
Dead Beat is Remy Porter's first novel and much of the novel takes place in the English countryside. This book was released in the summer of 2010 through Wild Wolf Publishing and this is definitely a zombie novel. Half of a small town turns into these brain eaters, with three protagonists doing their best to maintain order. However, justice is one of many elements that falls to the wayside when chaos takes hold and central character Johnny's diminishing friends is the result.
Johnny Silverman is the central hero in this 242 page thriller. Johnny is a police officer and when the zombie apocalypse comes knocking, he is the first and only line of defence. This remains true until Jack, the central villain, creates a new community of zombie survivors. However, Jack is more violent and more dictatorial than Johnny. This splits the community of a small town between those...

You know how I always sometimes write about things that are more self-indulgent than not? Like my Brendan Fraser updates? We’ve decided to cleverly group these items into a segment called Walker’s Wheelhouse. It’s self-serving, assumes that you care about what’s in my wheelhouse and that you know what a wheelhouse is. But it also herds these ideas together into one palatable whole, so you can chose to get in my wheelhouse or stay out of my wheelhouse. Whatever floats your wheelhouse. My brother asked me the other day what I thought my Wheelhouse would look like in actual physical form. And before I could answer he said, “It would probably just have a lot of dream catchers in it.” I don’t know exactly what that means, but I 100% agree. Reading. We all do it. We’re doing it right now. There’s no shame in it.
