- There's a scene where a glass bottle is thrown on the highway, breaking upon impact. This later causes a truck driver to crash and release poisonous gas which starts killing all the animals in the forest.
- There's a scene in which the three main characters are hunted by a big, menacing owl, which could be very scary to smaller children. And for two seconds there is also a fairly frightening moment where Abigail scares the owl back.
- The scene where Michelle finds her parents dead might be frightening to smaller children.
- For the majority of the film, the main characters believe everyone who lives in their forest home, including their parents, are dead.
- In spite of the cover of the video, this movie is know for some thematic elements in a G rated film of its time. If theatrically released today, it would have earned a PG rating, as it is sadly unsettling.
