Like father, like son. Kind of.
BA_Harrison14 September 2012
Having worked as Second Unit Director on a fair few of his father's trashy T&A action films, Drew Sidaris finally gets a crack at writing and directing his own feature, Enemy Gold, which sees a trio of government agents suspended from work by a corrupt official, discovering a stolen horde of Civil War gold while on vacation, and fighting for their lives against a vengeful Colombian drug-lord and his cohorts.

Sidaris Jr. starts afresh with new characters, a (mostly) new cast and a change of location, but doesn't exactly break new ground, using the 'hot women, guns and explosions' formula that has proved so successful for his old man; but despite his best efforts at emulating dear dad's style, Drew clearly hasn't been paying enough attention to the finer details...

Unforgivably, it is a whole 10 minutes before he gets any of his ladies naked (Andy would never have allowed that); 20 minutes have gone by before there is a gratuitous hot-tub scene; and the film is almost over by the time we get the movie's sole soft-core sex scene. Worse still, Drew offers no radio-controlled scale model action, no comedy hit-men, and no squib-tastic bullet hits.

Kudos to Drew for casting Playboy playmates Suzi Simpson and Tanquil Lisa Collins, both of whom are stunning, and also for having Julie Strain (as assassin Jewel Panther) wave a sword around by firelight, wearing nothing but a few leather straps, but pretty much everything else about this film fails to entertain, making it one of the weakest films in my Girls, Guns and G-Strings box set (so far).

could be made in VHS era, perfect example of T&A flick
trashgang25 May 2020
A bit strange to see this is made in 1993 and doesn't come out ofthe eighties. Maybe that's the reason I just came across this T&A flick.

This is a perfect example of a flick were acting isn't the main thing. You make a cheap flick with bad acting, a lot of T&A, some action and a hell of a sleeve to put on your VHS release so it would be picked up easy at a rental shop.

Starts okay and the use of yellow lettering in the opening credits do say enough, this is a B-movie. Well I said starts okay, but after 1 minute the horse scene takes ages and when we move over to nowadays, the attack at the house, so cheesy. Standing in front of a door with glass and not be seen, really. And when the chick comes in the first fight scene, OMG.

Yep, y ou guessed it, this is one for the boys full of stuffed tits easy to spot. Two Playboy playmates are in it, do I need to say more?

Today this kind of flick can't be made anymore, politically incorrect, girls are just used for sex and need to be sexy. If you come out of the grindhouse era pick it up, if ypu are a millenium, skip it.

Sidaris cheapie
Leofwine_draca13 November 2021
Another cheap and silly thriller from the Andy Sidaris stable, this one actually made by his son. Julie Strain, the pneumatic scream queen of the 1990s, co-stars. The story is about the usual wooden good guy agents battling criminals and at the same time uncovering a cache of civil war gold, leading to more action. The only emphasis is on pin up models wearing very little, and it's all rather silly, although fairly well shot for its budget.

Beyond Bad

This movie is in a league of its own. Caught this on Beer Goggle Vision on Spike TV at 2am, and it reaches the final frontier of B rated (C rated) movies.

The conversion between the producers of the movie must have went something like this.

Exec 1: "Hey, so we got these two playboy chicks, maybe we should make a movie with them"

Exec 2: "Ok, but we will need a plausible story line that will work with their gigantic breasts, and lack of acting ability"

Exec 1: "True, I've got just the thing. Let's stick in Bruce Penhall and Mark Berrier into the movie. Next to them Suzi Simpson will look like Elizabeth Taylor."

Exec 2: "Fantastic, but whats the plot"

Exec 1: "Lets go with the usual. Special agents fighting a drug lord. They find some diary, and look for gold"

Exec 2: "Brilliant!"

Exec 1: "We can call it Enemy Gold"

Exec 2: "I like it! Also, we can get the one of the A Team directors to helm the film"

Exec 1: "Okay, lets start shooting tomorrow. I want this in theatres next month"

So yeh, that sums it up. If you need a good laugh, grab some smokes, some beer and some friends and you got the night made.

The Ugly Man6 November 1999
You know, it takes a big man to do a good job at a hard task. But it takes an even bigger man to admit he what he cannot do, and then strive to do what he does best. That is Andy Sidaris in a nutshell. True, while he'll never be the next Steven Speilberg, he is truly a master at the task which is presented to him: B-movies. I have only seen three of his films and can tell this already. Enemy Gold is one of them. This film is a slap in the face to those who say that the exploitation of Sex, violence, and rock-&-roll are wrong, and then rubs the slap down with a little ice. What I'm trying to say is, that this movie, while not entirely wholesome, is still a good movie, no matter how you slice it. The enormous juggs are just a way of keeping peoples attention.

The worst film ever made?
jeffsepu683 January 2001
Its gotta rank right up there. BAAAAD baad movie, and I mean even for the late night spanking genre it did by the numbers. Even the porn scenes ached, and with Suzy Simpson and Tai Collins, Playboy's finest back in the day, they coulda done SOOOOO much more. If only the rest of it was merely BORING and not NAUSEATINGLY IDIOTIC...

Fool's Gold
NoDakTatum7 November 2023
This movie is so stupid I do not know where to begin. An unnamed federal agency has a couple of hunky employees about to bust a cocaine smuggling operation. The clever drug dealers hid their contraband cocaine in hollowed-out watermelons. Chris Cannon (Bruce Penhall) and Mark Austin (Mark Barriere) are visited by Chris' old flame Becky Midnite (Suzi Simpson), and no I am not making up the characters' names). The trio raid a farm and kill a couple of baddies before their jerk supervisor Dickson (Alan Abelew) pulls up all full of guff and vinegar over the gunplay. Dickson files a report, the agents' other boss Ava Noble (Tai Collins) cannot help them, and they are suspended. What a perfect time to go hunting for lost Confederate gold in the nearby woods. The three take off, but evil drug dealer Santiago (Rodrigo Obregon) has brought in female assassin Jewel Panther (Julie Strain), and let me remind you that I am not making up the characters' names, and everyone heads to the woods for some boring action sequences.

"Enemy Gold" may be one of the most juvenile scripts ever written. I honestly believed the screenwriters were actually twelve year old boys, and heavy into dirt bikes, all terrain vehicles, and getting pretty, augmented blondes into showers. The character names alone are laughable. The script is so badly written, it would take a cast of immensely awful actors to call attention away from it, and "Enemy Gold" succeeds. There are no performances here. The actors are lucky to find their marks. The ladies' only direction must have been "arch your back, wet your lips, and say your line." The Amazonian-like Strain has great screen presence, but all of her line readings are flat and she tends to emphasize the wrong words. Simpson and Collins strip often, but there isn't any eroticism. Sidaris couldn't direct one way traffic, much less difficult items like conversation or actors pretending to shoot at each other. Sure, I may be rough. Some of you out there might say, "shut your brain off and enjoy a bad film." No! Why should I excuse bad film making? I do not expect every film I pick up to have the weight of "Schindler's List," but my God, try to put your best effort onscreen. Why should I shut my brain off? The film makers made their movie without a thought in their collective noggins. "Enemy Gold" is stunningly awful. It is so awful, you may find yourself short of breath. If you look up "awful" in the dictionary, they would have a picture of this film's video box. This film sullies the good name "awful" has made for itself with other films like "Alien Invader" and "Two Much." This movie is so awful, I found time during the boring stretches to rearrange the letters of the title "Enemy Gold" to spell "end my lego" and "my eel dong." Why go through the motions of watching "Enemy Gold" when you can go down to the local zoo and have feces flung at you by real live monkeys? Watching this has the same effect. I hated this thing.

A step back for the L.E.T.H.A.L. franchise...
paul_haakonsen14 July 2022
My Sidaris movie streak continues with the 1993 movie "Enemy Gold". Granted, this particular movie sees Andy Sidaris step back and has Christian Drew Sidaris take over the director's chair. But hey, potato potato, right?

"Enemy Gold" is a step back from the original formula, and this particular movie from writers Wess Shannon Rahn and Christian Drew Sidaris just didn't really live up to the expectations set by the numerous many previous movies from writer and director Andy Sidaris. Yet, I managed to sit through the movie in its 92 minutes runtime, but the best thing about this 1993 movie was actually the cover.

The storyline in "Enemy Gold" started out okay, but it quickly escalated into a chaotic mess of a storyline where the red thread went right out the window and the movie felt like director Christian Drew Sidaris was just putting together randomly filmed segments to make a movie.

The movie also has changes to the character gallery, so it lost that particular continuity that the previous movies had going on for it. I have to say that it was nice to see Julie Strain make it to the roster, but given the limitations of the script, then it was not much she had to work with. Sure, there were some familiar faces from previous movies, such as Bruce Penhall and Rodrigo Obregón, but nothing noteworthy.

"Enemy Gold" is not up to par with the previous movies and it is actually a less than mediocre attempt at the genre from director Christian Drew Sidaris.

My rating of "Enemy Gold" lands on a four out of ten stars.

The only thing decent about this movie
tzot19 May 2020
I was on leave during my army service, oh so many years ago, and the TV had this movie. The best actor in this movie was Julie Strain, this tall brunette with silicon breasts (but hey, I believe this applies to all female actors of this movie). I caught it after the middle of the movie, but I never felt the need to rent it or watch it from the start.

However, there was one thing that caught my attention: the end music. I remember, long before today's ease of information retrieval, that I listened the start of the credits music and thought "this could be stolen from Chris Rea..." and when the main guitar started playing completed the sentence "...by the doppelganger of Mark Knopfler!"

I don't know who Ron Diiulio (I think that's the correct name of the credited movie composer) is, if it's a pseudonym or not, however: hats off to you, Ron, at least for having decent influences! Great work.

PS If I didn't make it clear: the acting is below average, the script is childish, the direction is typical of the movie genre and the era, but if you happen to see it scheduled on a channel, turn it on before the end credits and listen to it. I'm still trying to locate that piece somewhere on the internet.

Sticks to the Basics
refinedsugar17 January 2024
'Enemy Gold' is the first sequel Andy Sidaris's son Drew took over duties, but it follows formula. Low level action, simple plot and the requisite female nudity. Established faces Bruce Penhall, Mark Barriere, Rodrigo Obregon & Julie Strain return as existing or new characters. Suzi Simpson - a former Playmate - makes her debut & only appearance.

Agents Cannon (Penhall), Austin (Barriere) & Becky Midnite (Simpson) bust a drug op angering Bolivian drug dealer Santiago (Obregon). Suspended by an annoying superior, their boss Ava Noble (Tai Collins) tries to sort things out. In their downtime, they search for some fabled lost Civil War gold while Santiago brings in a hired killer Jewel Panther (Strain) to take them out and a betrayal is revealed.

I understand the series charm, but I don't consider myself a fan. 'The Dallas Connection' was one of the first T&A movies I saw and although it gave me an appreciation for Strain and Julie K. Smith, I didn't think much of the action or story. Every other entry has felt the same. The best thing here is Obregon. Chewing up the scenery, spouting bad guy b-movie dialog.

Suzi hops in the shower twice - the first within 10 mins - and supplies one sex scene - 33 mins in. Tai reveals the goods in a sauna / shower combo - 21 mins in - and has sex near the end. Two strippers & the bad guy have a brief shower threeway. Julie struts her stuff in a bikini & goes topless by a campfire wielding a sword in the latter half.

'Enemy Gold' isn't the series high point, but still feels like a Sidaris flick. The action is nothing to write home about per usual. Lacking from this entry is some cheesy allure and an abundance of boobs. Could have used more humor too.

Welcome Julie Strain to the Sidaris Universe!
BandSAboutMovies17 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Noticeably, this movie doesn't start on a beach or with hot tubs. No, we're back in the Civil War, as we learn the tale of hidden gold. And while three agents are on a mission to stop some drug lords, they find that gold. However, thanks to a corrupt agent, a ruthless criminal kingpin is attempting to hunt them all down.

Welcome to the first movie directed by Drew Sidaris, who has moved up from working on the second unit for several of the Malibu Bay films we've covered already this week.

Seeing as how Fit to Kill was supposed to be the end of the series, this starts everything off brand new. This has some of the elements - and actors - of Andy Sidaris' films, but everyone has pretty much new characters. Bruce Penhall plays Chris Cannon, Mark Barriere is Mark Austin, Suzi Simpson (January 1992 Playboy Playmate of the Month) is Becky Midnight and Tanquil Lisa "Tai" Collins(who appeared in the October 1991 issue of Playboy and would go on to write for Baywatch) plays Ava Noble.

On the bad side, we have the returning Rodrigo Obregon as Santiago and Julie Strain as Jewel Pather.

This movie's follow-up, The Dallas Connection, can either be seen as a sequel or remake. Strain, Obregon and Cassidy Phillips are back as villains but play different characters and the heroes work for a totally different agency. Strain plays Cobra in that film and is revealed to be a L.E.T.H.A.L. agent, a role which she'll play in the rest of Sidaris' movies.

Julie Strain really makes this one watchable. I'm saying that not just because of her looks. She understands exactly the type of movie she's in and makes it work. While Andy only produced this film, it doesn't stray far from the formula.

Enjoyable low-budget action trash
Woodyanders28 June 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A trio of suspended federal agents -- Chris Cannon (likable Bruce Penhall), his childhood pal Mark Austin (the equally engaging Mark Barriere), and spunky Becky Midnite (a winningly perky portrayal by the adorable Suzi Simpson) -- search for a hidden gold treasure while vacationing in the woods. Meanwhile, evil drug lord Santiago (a pleasingly slimy turn by Rodrogo Obregon) hires lethal assassin Jewel Panther (deliciously overplayed with snarly brio by Amazonian stunner Julie Strain) to kill the agents so he can have the gold for himself. Andy's son Christian Drew Sidaris takes over as director here and proves to be a real chip off the ol' breezy'n'cheesy B-flick block: There's abundant yummy female nudity, an amusing sense of cheeky humor, scorching soft-core sex scenes, big splashy explosions, a constant snappy pace, and competently staged action set pieces. Alan Abelew contributes a perfectly smarmy performance as slimy corrupt fed Dickson while dishy blonde Tanquil Lisa Collins adds extra spice as foxy superior Ava Noble. As a tasty added plus, the insanely leggy and sexy Ms. Strain does a wild topless dance in front of a roaring campfire just because she can and there's a regrettably brief, but still enjoyable catfight between Strain and Simpson. Mark Morris' slick cinematography gives this picture a neat glossy look (the occasional sweeping helicopter shots are especially impressive). Ron Di Iulio's cool rocking score delivers the get-down jamming goods. A fun flick.

Jewel Panther vs Becky Midnite (#9)
unbrokenmetal28 May 2008
This is the 9th out of my 12 reviews for the works of Andy Sidaris, in chronological order. For the first time, he only produced the movie, but left the director's job to his son Drew, who had regularly been director's assistant before. Renting a video cassette of „Enemy Gold" was my start into the world of „bullets, bombs and babes" many years ago and it still is a pleasure to revisit!

The story is simple: Three agents discover a bunch of drug smugglers, kill a few and put the rest in jail. The big boss is not amused and sends a killer to eliminate the agents. The interesting twist is that the agents are treasure hunting on their „day off": they find a map that leads to lost gold from the civil war. The historical flashbacks make the movie a bit more interesting, because the rest is quite predictable. Fortunately, we have familiar faces with Mark Barriere and Bruce Penhall who play the good guys, plus Julie Strain as Jewel Panther (sic!), the killer. Debutante Suzi Simpson plays an agent by the equally unlikely name of Becky Midnite, and Suzi follows the footsteps of Dona Speir quite well for a first try. Remember, Dona appeared in no less than 7 of Sidaris' movies before and seemed impossible to replace! Alan Abelew deserves mentioning; he plays Dickson, a man you love to hate. If you ever worked for a boss like that, you know what I mean. „Enemy Gold" has a simple instrumental rock guitar soundtrack, a bit different from the style of most predecessors. Don't miss the documentary „Let's make a Sidaris movie" (bonus on the American DVD), because it explains how the members of the whole family worked together to make a movie - not an ordinary film team.

Another soft porn movie
sauravjoshi858 July 2021
Enemy Gold is an action adventure film directed by Christian Drew Sidaris and stars Bruce Penhall , Mark Barriere, Suzi Simpson, Tanquil Lisa Collins, Rodrigo Obergon and late Julie Strain.

The movie is a typical soft porn movie surrounded with a predictable woven plot and some average to below average action scenes.

The movie might be liked by few of the viewers who are a fan of soft porn movies but for many like me the movie is just another crap with very predictable plot and screenplay which is been supported by some nudity.

If you are a fan of soft porn then this is the movie for you.

A Bolivian Drug Lord Seeking Revenge
Uriah431 December 2022
This film essentially begins during the American Civil War with a couple of Confederate soldiers stealing some gold that was being transported by the Union Army. One of them is wounded and dies trying to escape enemy patrols while the other is killed by Indians somewhere in East Texas. Before he dies, however, he manages to write about the stolen gold in his journal and subsequently buries it as well. The scene then shifts to the present day with two federal agents named "Chris Cannon" (Bruce Penhall) and "Mark Austin" (Mark Barriere) planning to conduct a raid on a Bolivian drug lord by the name of "Santiago" (Rodrigo Obregon). Just prior to that, they are joined by a female agent named "Becky Midnight" (Suzi Simpson) who has only recently graduated from training. In spite of that, she performs her duties quite well and the drug raid is a tremendous success. What none of them realize, however, is that Santiago has certain resources at his disposal and he is not somebody who can tolerate any interference in his illegal business enterprises. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this film had a certain amount of potential but it was undermined to a great degree by a poor script and extremely weak acting. Admittedly, these weaknesses were mitigated somewhat by having three attractive actresses like Tanquil Lisa Collins (as "Ava Noble") along with the aforementioned Suzi Simpson and Julie Strain to enhance the scenery. But even then, it just wasn't quite enough and I have rated this movie accordingly. Slightly below average.

Kept me interested, despite being a B softporn
wilkens-0940127 April 2022
I going rating of 8 only because it had a decent storyline for T and A flick. It kept my interest to see how it ended. The director put a lot of effort and even Julie Strain did a decent job of acting in this one. Dont misunderstand me it's an 8 only on the B budget level. In comparison with movies like braveheart or the shining it probably would be a two.

Enjoyable, if uneven
gridoon16 December 2006
"Enemy Gold" marks a turning point in Andy Sidaris' filmography: his son Christian is sitting in the director's chair, and Dona Speir, Roberta Vasquez and Cynthia Brimhall are gone. The female lead this time is Suzi Simpson, and she is quite a find (I wonder why Sidaris didn't use her again): she has a great body (no matter what angle you look at it from), combined with a sweet, innocent face and a cute smile; she is appealing in the same way that Hope Marie Carlton was, plus she fights a bit more than other Sidaris heroines. Tai Collins, as a higher-in-command agent, is another total knockout, and Julie Strain, as an assassin-for-hire, is like a mythological Amazon come to life. Looking at this woman is much better than listening to her - her delivery turns her character into camp. The pacing of the movie lags in the second half, and when it's all over you have the feeling (as with other Sidaris movies) that it could have been much better. But what is there on the screen is still enjoyable - some of the lines are funny and all of the women are sexy. (**1/2)
