Sex & Nudity

  • A man tells his wife that her outfit makes her look like a "whore".
  • A man and woman have an affair. It is unclear whether or not it is sexual in nature but the woman's real husband abuses her so she for all intents and purposes has fled from him.
  • A woman is forced to wear skimpy underwear and then raped.
  • A woman is putting her shirt on and her boss accidentally walks in on her.
  • Pregnancy is mentioned.
  • A woman tells another woman "I like your buns" (referring to buns in a bakery where she works. The other woman then replies "I like your jugs" in reference to the homemade pottery the first woman makes as a hobby.
  • A woman's boss asks to see under her shirt, but there is nothing intended to be sexual about this scene; the woman has her collarbone bruised severely by her husband and her boss wants to see how bad the injury is.

Violence & Gore

  • The film deals with domestic violence. A main character beats his wife and children.
  • A boy is punched in the stomach by his own father.
  • A woman is repeatedly slapped and beaten, and eventually kidnapped and raped after leaving her abuser.
  • A man is verbally threatened by another man.
  • Hippies are shot at. One is severely injured and the other is killed.
  • A child is grabbed and dragged screaming towards a vehicle.
  • A woman is shot in the head and dies. Her boss is also shot but an ending title card reveals that he recovered from his injuries later.
  • A dead body lies on a morgue table beneath a sheet.

Profanity

  • "whore", "bitch", "hell", "ass", "god", "goddamn/goddamn it", "screwing around with", "screwing my wife", "jugs (breast reference)" and "geez" are all said on at least one occasion.
  • Mild name-calling, including "sissy", "loser" and "selfish" are all said at least once.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Hippies give wine to a newly moved-in couple as a gift.
  • It's implied that a group of characters smoke weed.
  • A main character and a friend of hers are both often seen smoking cigarettes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A woman is constantly beaten and verbally insulted. Her husband often snaps and hurts her or the children for petty or bizarre reasons.
  • The ending scene is very abrupt and sad and may upset viewers.
  • There are scenes of child abuse, both verbal and physical.
  • A man is visibly shocked and upset to discover that his employee has been beaten by her husband.
  • There is a lengthy kidnapping scene. A woman is forced by her abusive husband to have sex. Police cars pull up outside the house where the husband and wife/hostage are hiding.
