After easing past 2 million strong, Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 is now the fastest-selling console in the UK – even outpacing the colossal sales of PlayStation 2.
McVuk brings the report, which states that these numbers are representative as of last weekend, and are based on sales estimated made by retail analyst GfK Chart-Track. In light of the news, PlayStation UK’s boss Fergal Gara spoke highly of the PS4’s performance hitherto, all the while congratulating Sony’s UK division for overseeing the hardware’s first – and indeed successful – 18 months on the market.
“Reaching the milestone of two million PlayStation 4 consoles in the UK in less than 18 months is an achievement we are very proud of. To be the best selling ‘next generation’ console in Britain – installing faster even than the PlayStation 2 – is testament to an amazing and constantly improving product, the hard work of our trade partners and the team at PlayStation UK,...

In some ways series eight is in a more secure place than Doctor Who has been in decades. The eras of the Sixth and Seventh Doctors were marred in part by some parties’ desire to see the cancellation of the series, and then the early years of Modern Who were fraught with worries that this new enterprise could not possibly succeed. The worry emerged not only at the being of Eccleston’s run, but in each change of hands thereafter. Despite some dissent that persists against Peter Capaldi, it is fair to say that Doctor Who is here to stay. Our loveable madman in a box has not only prevailed past cancellation, but did something truly unexpected last year by cementing himself as a global product with the world record-setting simulcast.
But the fiftieth anniversary, what with its multitude of events, specials, and just general celebration, is a very tough act of follow.

Chris Evans recently got a chance to sit down with the folks at Empire Magazine to discuss a few of the themes that directors Joe and Anthony Russo are tackling in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor talks about how the directors wished to convey the theme of a ’70s thriller and how the character of Steve Rogers is doing in the modern world since we last saw him in The Avengers.
Speaking about the theme of the film –
“I don’t think Marvel’s ever done anything like this,” says Evans. “The [Russo] brothers said right from the start that we were really doing a ’70s thriller. And I think just Cap’s abilities mesh well with that kind of genre. I mean, his powers are very meat and potatoes. Faster. Stronger. Punch. Kick. That works with those types of movies. It would be more difficult to put, say,...

With just under a month to go until the second instalment in The Hobbit trilogy, and with the release of new trailers and posters, excitement from the fans is reaching giddy new heights (like Bilbo getting snatch up by eagles, but with less motion sickness). And so it should – The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug looks like it’s shaping up to be entirely awesome. Director Peter Jackson has done what few have managed – he has created a fandom with Lord of the Rings, and has now fed it industriously with production blogs and exclusive titbits from the set of the Hobbit films ensuring that, good or bad, his films will have an audience.
As a die-hard fan myself (like, the weird sort who decides it would be fun to go to the opening night in costume), I can admit there were issues with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. However,...

FIFA 14 is out a week today and gamers still hooked on recently-released Grand Theft Auto 5 are going to have something new to obsess over come next weekend.
Much is expected from EA’s upcoming football simulation title following the release of the demo recently to great fanfare as well as positive reviews in these early stages of pre-release.
And if FIFA 14 is as successful as its predecessor, 13, it is going to be a smash hit.
The last game went on to become the biggest videogame launch of 2012 with 7.4 million units sold four weeks after its release.
And we have a sneaky feeling the latest iteration in the long-running series is going to be similarly successful, and here are 9 reasons why.
9. The Soundtrack
The soundtrack of any game is important, particularly when you spend as much time scrolling through options menus and loading screens as you do in the FIFA series.

England vs Brazil pitted two great attacking talents against each other – Wayne Rooney versus Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior. One a precocious talent with the world at his feet, the other now at his peak, a little battle-scarred, a little worn down by life but by no means finished.
The Brazilian has been linked with moves ranging from €40-60million to Europe’s finest clubs, while the Englishman is settled in the red half of Manchester. Both are their teams’ star men in terms of publicity, reputation, and payment, but Wednesday night showed that one is currently worth more than the other. Here we examine 5 reasons why Wayne Rooney is more valuable than Neymar.
5. To Be The Best You Have To Play The Best
Neymar is one of the hottest talents in the world, and when he leaves Santos and Brazil, he will have the pick of Europe’s biggest and best clubs.

At last, the week has arrived. Tenacious D's first album in six years, "Rize of the Fenix," will be available tomorrow (although you can currently stream the entire album on Soundcloud). Their second official music video from the record, "The Roadie," pays tribute to some of the most unrecognized members of any touring band: the road crew and guitar techs. Danny McBride plays the roadie in question, assisting the D's technical requests, and fulfilling things they didn't even know they need (or want). The video was directed by McBride's "Eastbound and Down" collaborator Jody Hill.
We first saw a glimme of hope that the D's new record would be a return to form after the short film "To Be the Best" was a smash hit on the Internet, reintroducing old fans to the rock/comedy duo, and bringing in plenty of new devotees as well. They then released a...

Omd’s director of people management Carolyn Maloney is leaving after seven years with the agency.
She is to be replaced by Martin Cowie, who returns to the Omnicom fold after four years elsewhere.
Cowie was formerly commercial director at Omd Australia, before moving to Carat Sydney, where he was managing director until 2009.
He takes on the job in addition to his role at recruitment firm Keeley Pope Media Recruitment, which he joined in February last year to set up the executive search venture Kpmr Executive. Cowie will continue to work at Kpmr Executive one day a week, but only deal with media owner-related searches, Keeley Pope told Mumbrella.

It may not be "the greatest song in the world," but the video for the titular track on Tenacious D's comeback album, "Rize of the Fenix," is pretty spectacular.
Last month, the D had an Internet hit with the first promo video for the new album, called "To Be the Best," wherein Jack Black and Kyle Gass reunited, overcame their differences, and even killed Val Kilmer in the process. But they just released the first proper music video for "Rize of the Fenix," and it's a special effects-heavy, explosion-filled extravaganza that sees Jb and Kg battle the critics who blasted their flop "Pick of Destiny," who happen to have demon bodies.
Plus, Jack's guitar has a saber for a neck, and it's pretty sweet.
"Rize of the Fenix," the band's first album in several years, is available May 15. However, you can already stream the entire thing on RizeoftheFenix.com.

Now that everyone has seen (and loved) the star-studded Tenacious D comeback video "To Be the Best," it's time to listen to the first single from their new album, the title track for "Rize of the Fenix." The album from is set to be released on May 15.
The rock comedy duo's first movie, 2006's "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny," is now considered a cult classic by many, but it's largely viewed as a bomb -- it made a total of only $8.2 million, even at the height of D frontman Jack Black's box office power. But the band is embracing the theme of resurrection on their new album, and the title track is entirely devoted to earning back the good name of the band, who first earned fame with an HBO series and Dust Brothers-produced rock album.

"The D is back," Jack Black whine-wails in the new video for "To Be the Best," the first track off Tenacious D's new album The Rize of the Fenix. It's a familiar sound, sure, but somehow different now after all these years. While the trademark crazy-eyes and self-serious premises are intact, there's an essential Tenacity that's getting lost in higher (though still silly) production values and the wink-winky setup of Jack now being super rich and famous and Kyle being far less so. Oh, it's funny to watch Val Kilmer nobly get shot so that the D might reunite, but it's as if no one remembers the time Kyle took a bullet for Jack. This is definitely not the greatest song in the world — this is barely a tribute.

It's been six long years since Tenacious D put out a record, and in that time our national economy nearly collapsed, our political discourse sank to new lows of toxicity, and rock music was marginalized like never before. Coincidence? Yes, but it still sucked not having the D around. The new video for "To Be The Best" has us especially primed for the release of Rize Of The Fenix on May 15. There's not much music in the video—the titular song lasts for maybe a minute of the six-minute clip—but it's still super entertaining and ...

It's been six long years since the last Tenacious D album, but Jack Black and Kyle Gass are back, hoping to put Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny behind them. The rebelliously-phonetic Rize of the Fenix is set for May 15, as the thunder gods put in their earplugs. In a new promotional video for Fenix entitled "To Be the Best," the D catch us up on their recent past, under the guise of an Extra piece hosted by Maria Menounos. We learn that Black has gone Hollywood, while his old partner Gass obsesses over him in an institution. And we see the pivotal role that that ol' huckleberry Val Kilmer plays in the duo's reunion. And that's not all. An epic, war-ending, seventeen-day hug leads to a Rocky III-esque training montage and flying on a giant eagle, in true D fashion. The boys [...]...

Tenacious D have released a video promoting their return to music. The duo - which consists of Jack Black and Kyle Gass - will release their third studio album Rize of the Fenix on May 15. A video titled 'To Be The Best' has been posted online to promote the pair's return to music after a six-year break. The mini movie tells the story of the fall of Gass after Tenacious D's film The Pick Of Destiny failed to be a success at the box office. Meanwhile, Black goes on to become a giant Hollywood star and forgets all about his bandmate until he turns up at his mansion wielding a gun. The clip also features cameos from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Tim (more)...

We're calling this movie news because, like, there was a movie a few years ago. What we actually have here is a new short film from rock gods of awesomeness Tenacious D (namely Jack Black and Kyle Gass), promoting comeback album Rise Of The Fenix, which is out in May.All great bands fade and then make comebacks, so at this point, it's nice to think that The Pick Of Destiny, the double team's epic fail from 2006, was part of their whole meta thang, paving the way for this moment where they could rise from the ashes. You couldn't split up Kato and Nash, and you couldn't split up Tango and Cash. This is their time of exultant joy. They only came to kick some ass.To Be The Best is effectively an extended trailer for the album, taking the form of a documentary special about where they've been. Black has been ruling Hollywood,...

It's official. After watching Tenacious D's new short film/music video "To Be The Best," even skeptics who were let down by "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny" will agree that The D is back.
Jack Black and Kyle Gass are set to release "The Rize of the Fenix," the first album from Tenacious D in six years, on May 15. But until then, they made this short for audiences to catch up on Kg and Jb since the relative failure of "The Pick of Destiny." And it isn't pretty. While Jables' fame has only expanded since the movie came out, the only thing that has risen for Kage is his boiling anger towards Jack. And he wants blood.
Presented as a segment of the tabloid show "Extra" documenting the rise, fall and resurrection of the rock comedy duo, the video attracted a handful of celebrity cameos, including "Extra" host Maria Menounos,...

Many a moon has passed since the last Tenacious D album – six years to be exact – but all that is about to change now that the duo has revealed details behind their newest effort: Rize Of The Fenix.
The D, who consist of quirky actor Jack Black and comedian Kyle Gass, have surprised us all by announcing their third album will be dropping in a few months, on May 15 – their first since ‘06’s The Pick of Destiny, which was actually a soundtrack for a film of the same name.
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will once again helm drums for the disc (he did the same for D’s two previous efforts). Grohl also notoriously played Satan himself in the group’s music video for “Tribute.”
The effort was produced by John Kimbrough, a long-time Tenacious D collaborator, at his home in Los Angeles. The album is expected to include 13 songs.

"To be the best mom, the best wife, and the best friend and professional you can be, you have to take time for yourself," reveals Michelle Obama in the March issue of "Prevention" magazine. The First Lady also adds, "There's no negotiating that - we need to be higher up on our own priority list."
Michelle Obama opens up to "Prevention" on how she makes time for herself, despite her hectic schedule. She believes in order to show up for life and do her best; she must make her own well being a priority. Spending time with girlfriends, eating ...

After teasing the project late last week, "Harry Potter" mastermind J.K. Rowling is finally set to announce the secrets of Pottermore in a press conference tomorrow morning. But just like "The X-Files," the truth is out there — and it looks like you don't need to dig too deep to find it.
Okay, folks — put your spoiler hats on.
USA Today directs our attention to an article from The Guardian alleging to know what Pottermore exactly is. If you want to know what Rowling's next project is a day early (and remember, none of this is confirmed yet), well, you're just (careful now!) one click away. But the official answers are just one day away. Don't you think you can wait a little bit longer?
As we're waiting to find out what's going on with Pottermore, let's turn our attention elsewhere in the movies blogosphere. After the jump, get updates on...

Fightville
Directed by Michael Tucker and Petra Epperlein
2011, USA, 85 mins.
I am not a fan of mixed martial arts. It is not something that I know much about, nor something to which I have devoted much thought. Yet, despite my ambivalence towards a sport that is taking bars and gyms by storm, I found Fightville to be nothing short of incredible.
Though it is ostensibly about amateur mixed martial arts fighters in southern Louisiana struggling to break into the Ufc, directors Michael Tucker and Petra Epperlein delve deeper and ask the question, “What does it mean to be the best at something?” Professional fighting is the most primal way to explore that theme. Though Mma fans will love this film, be assured that those ambivalent and indifferent to the sport will nevertheless find Fightville fascinating.
The filmmakers let their subjects tell their own story, which is a wise decision. Trainer...

Lionsgate have released these five new high res images from Jason Statham’s new movie, The Mechanic which is directed by and also stars Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland and Christa Campbell.
The Mechanic is a remake of the Charles Bronson film with the same title from 1972 and I’ll let the synopsis do the talking:
Synopsis: Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is the ‘mechanic’ – an elite assassin with a unique talent for eliminating targets with deadly skill and total emotional detachment. To be the best in the business Bishop has given everything to realising professional perfection, the last and only attachment in his life is to his mentor and friend Harry (Donald Sutherland). When Harry is murdered Bishop takes on a self-imposed assignment to kill the murderers, using Harry’s own legacy to avenge his death. Things get complicated when Harry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) emerges with the same vengeful...

A new trailer has been sent over to us for The Mechanic and is included below, along with the synopsis. A poster for the film is featured above.

Jason Statham is back doing what he does best – blowing stuff up! Momentum Pictures and Lionsgate have just sent us the brand new UK trailer for his latest movie, The Mechanic which is directed by Simon West and also stars Ben Foster and Donald Sutherland.
This trailer is pretty much a re-cut of the domestic trailer which came out a week or two ago but has a few new little bits in there. It’s scheduled for release in the UK 28th January.

On tomorrow night’s Britain’s Got Talent, the last act up in Cardif is Paul, a comedy impressionist.
Paul tells Ant and Dec: ‘I’ve always done voices. I didn’t have much of a life cos I have three sisters. I couldn’t get a word in edge ways so I just watched lots of TV and started copying the TV characters. To win Bgt would mean everything to me.’
He takes to the stage.
Piers – Why are you here today?
Paul – To be the best in my field, which is impersonations.
Simon – What’s the worst club you’ve ever done [performed in]?
Paul – It was in Kent, they sort of paid me off because they didn’t like me.
Simon – Well let’s hope it doesn’t happen tonight.
Paul starts his act, so has this gig gone better for Paul than the one in Kent? Tune...
