“I felt ashamed of myself for watching. No one should have a chance to see so much desire, so much need for a prize. And so much pain when [it] was not given … I felt disgusted with myself. As though I were attending a public hanging.”
Those were the words of the late Glenda Jackson, as she described to The New York Times her recent experience watching the Academy Awards on television in 1979.
Ironically, it was well after she had already been gifted with two Best Actress Oscars herself. She was not present to accept those honors — for 1970’s “Women in Love” and 1973’s “A Touch of Class.” She was also absent when she was Best Actress-nominated for 1971’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and 1975’s “Hedda.”

Michael Raymond-James brought to life one of the biggest moments in the lead up to the American Revolution on Monday night's "Sons of Liberty."
As Paul Revere in the History mini-series, the actor recreated the Midnight Ride. But, Michael told Access Hollywood the real pressure related to recreating the famed historical event (where Revere rode to Lexington, Mass., to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming to arrest them) had to do with mastering his horse.

Review Caroline Preece 20 Nov 2013 - 08:01
Exciting and eventful, Sleepy Hollow is still great even on its slower days. Here's Caroline's review of Necromancer...
This review contains spoilers.
1.8 Necromancer
After last week’s early win for team Ichabod, we were all probably wondering where the show would go from here. How would they fill the time until episode thirteen having detained their main bad guy? Well, Necromancer was what Sleepy Hollow looks like on a slow day, and that’s not slow at all. A demonstration on how exciting you can make a show stuck in one location for an hour, this episode gave us a ton of answers through both flashback and the long-awaited interrogation of the horseman.
Abbie’s fist-bump was almost certainly premature, but it’s still nice to see our heroes enjoying a victory for a change. We now have a fully-fledged team of demon fighters...

Sleepy Hollow Season 1, Episode 8 “Necromancer”
Written by Mark Hoffman and Phillip Iscove
Directed by Paul Edwards
Airs Monday nights at 9pm Et on Fox
After the events of “The Midnight Ride” where Ichabod (Tom Mison), Abbie (Nicole Beharie), and Captain Irving (Orlando Jones) capture and neutralize the Headless Horseman, it seems his threat is over for a while. This isn’t the case as the Horseman’s probing reveal Ichabod’s deepest fears and yet another dark secret from his past. “Necromancer” also explores the idea of free will vs. destiny using the undead cop Andy Brooks (John Cho) and Ichabod’s wife Katrina (Katia Winter) as case studies. Writers Mark Hoffman and Phillip Iscove use both Ichabod and the Horseman’s past to create conflict in this episode while also giving it real thematic resonance. There is also a nice B-plot involving Jenny Mills (Lyndie Greenwood) and Irving as...

So they’ve captured the Headless Horseman! They’ve captured Death! Now what? Looks like we’ll be finding out on tonight’s new Sleepy Hollow. It’ll be interesting to see if he ends up being one of those villains who always gets away somehow, or if they’ll actually neutralize him and continue on with the other riders to come.
To get a head start – sorry, it was irresistible – we have a TV spot and some clips from tonight’s new episode, along with a “making of” featurette about last week’s episode, and a nice featurette from “Corbin’s Notebook” – remember Sheriff Corbin, the one who had been doing all the research about the strange goings-on in Sleepy Hollow, before he got his head chopped off? This one is about the Masons.

Sleepy Hollow's recent break from the schedules did nothing to dissipate its momentum. Here's Caroline's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 The Midnight Ride
Well that was quite exciting, wasn't it? We're only half way through the first season of Sleepy Hollow, and it seems Ichabad and Abby haven't just found a way to trap the horseman, but have also managed to actually trap him. Will this stick? Probably not given the aforementioned episode number, but it's still a pleasing development for a show almost entirely dependent on its villains. If the horseman never gets his head back then the apocalypse can never get started and nobody needs to bother about being a witness at all.
Then again, this is television, so we can bet that, even if the horseman doesn't escape his artificial sunlight prison straight away, something else is going to come along to complicate their lives.

"Sleepy Hollow" is the funniest show about Colonial America and horror movie mythology currently on television. Seriously: During "The Midnight Ride," the show's latest episode, there was a flashback to Paul Revere's midnight ride, a cop killed in the pilot came back as a zombie-esque monster and the headless horseman (dressed in redcoat uniform) shot up a science lab with a machine gun.
All that happened, and the best part of the epiosde was still the banter between Ichabod (Tom Mison) and Abby (Nicole Beharie). This week was particularly buddy cop-esque, with an extended montage of Ichabod and Abby trying to destroy an ancient skull. In an alternate universe, "Abby and Ichy and the Case of the Indestructible Head" would totally have been an appropriate episode title.
In terms of plot development, "The Midnight Ride" might have finally turned Abby's skeptical boss (Orlando Jones) into a believer of her headless horseman claims.

Sleepy Hollow Episode 107
“The Midnight Ride”
Written By: Heather v. Regnier
Directed By: Doug Aarniokosi
Original Airdate: 11 November 2013
In This Episode...
Ichabod heads over to a meeting with the Freemasons. He promises Abbie he will insist they include her in their normally men-only club, so she meets him there. By the time they arrive, they find the four Freemasons, dead and headless, and watch as the Horseman rides off with a fistful of heads. The Freemasons were the keeper of secrets on the side of good (as in, good vs. evil) and the Horseman came there looking for his skull. He didn’t find it - because it wasn’t there.
Abbie and Ichabod go to the captain to ask for the skull back so they can destroy it. He is hesitant but gives in, and goes to the lab he sent it out to. Paul, the lab tech, has...

Somewhere around all the Sally Hemmings jibber-jabber, “The Midnight Ride” started to lose me a bit. Normally there’s so much exposition flying out of people’s mouths on Sleepy Hollow that I find myself practically staring at their lips while they speak, hoping to catch and decipher everything they say. But as the episode’s climax approached, with Abbie, Crane, and Irving making a bunch of arts-and-crafts skulls in a Home Alone–y attempt to lure and trap the bad guy, the three of them went completely nonsequitur, debating just how decent a man the slave-owning Thomas Jefferson might have been. Did the writers run out of stuff for them to talk about? Was it that necessary for us to watch them papier-mâché some skeleton heads?Don’t get me wrong: “The Midnight Ride” was hella fun while it lasted. I may have actually emitted more audible gasps (at...

"Paul Revere, you rum beggar!" - Ichabod Crane You're just not going to hear that anywhere else on television. And I think at this point we can safely say that's one of the key reasons why "Sleepy Hollow" has become the breakout hit of this year's freshman class. Not because audiences have been clamoring for a nutty serialized drama that balances elements of a horror show, historical romp and bantery detective drama, but because audiences have been starved for anything that feels different and fresh. That's certainly what we get in "The Midnight Ride," a prime example of "Sleepy Hollow" at...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 7: “The Midnight Ride”
Written by Heather V. Regnier
Directed by Doug Aarnioski
Airs Mondays at 9pm Et on Fox
Sleepy Hollow‘s biggest strength as a show is taking risks, and it takes some pretty big ones in this episode which change the outlook of the show from here on out. “The Midnight Ride” has a fast moving plot that weaves in elements from both the past and present to create a compelling clash between Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and the Horseman of Death (Richard Cetrone). At times, the characters feel like ciphers in the workings of the story, but Heather Regnier injects plenty of humor into Ichabod’s dialogue and starts to make Sleepy Hollow policemen Frank Irving (Orlando Jones) and Luke Morales (Nicholas Gonzalez) more three dimensional presences on the show. This character growth and the chemistry between Ichabod and Abbie (Nicole Beharie...

You know that frustrated feeling you get when you can’t find your keys? Sleepy Hollow‘s Headless Horseman hasn’t been able to find his head for the past several weeks – naturally, the guy’s a little cranky.
So when he encounters Ichabod and Abbie – and their new ally, Capt. Irving – in this episode, the horseman isn’t playing around. Good thing our heroes are ready for him, thanks to a tip from an undead friend (or is it foe?). Read on as we review the major developments of “The Midnight Ride.”

Tonight’s new episode of Sleepy Hollow gives us not only the Headless Horseman actually riding his horse, chasing people and cutting off their heads (see the clip below) – which really is pretty cool to see, it’s the classic story come to life – but we also get a twist on the historical “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” – of course it involves the aforementioned Horseman.
We have a TV spot, two featurettes (including one of those fun fake “investigative reports”), and several clips from the new episode, but first we have a terrific behind-the-scenes featurette about last week’s episode with John Noble:

The TV biz has for years been declaring “sweeps” periods about as antiquated as wired remote controls, but Fox apparently wasn’t copied on the memo.
The network on Tuesday issued an extensive bulletin touting its “massive” plans for November sweeps, which kicks off this Thursday. We sifted through the release to weed out the old news (X Factor’s return, Almost Human‘s premiere, etc) and play up the stuff that really matters: the spoilers.

Following the all-too-common “rush to retail and patch it later” business plan that has practically defined the HD consoles this generation, Ubisoft has announced a day one patch for Assassin’s Creed III that they are describing as “highly recommended”.
The patch fixes 44 known bugs in the finished game. Many are fairly harmless glitches, however, there are several that could be game breaking. All the fixes are listed below but there are several spoilers in there, so you might want to just blind patch if you want to remain completely in the dark on the game’s story.
Granted Assassin’s Creed III‘s day one patch is not anywhere near the length of last week’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter patch, however, in these cases I always think about the millions of consoles out there that are not hooked up to the Internet and therefore can’t update broken games.

Johnny Depp announced in July that he was partnering with Disney to make a big-screen adaptation of the cult horror series The Night Stalker. Deadline reported today that Disney moved forward with the project hiring Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright to helm the horror film with Depp playing the role made famous by Darren McGavin. Disney is re-teaming with Johnny Depp for two new projects, including a big screen version of the 1970s TV movie "The Night Stalker" and a feature film based the Midnight Ride made by Paul Revere to warn Colonial militia of the impending British invasion. In "The Night Stalker" Depp will potentially play tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak, whose investigation always seemed to lead him to vampires, zombies, werewolves and aliens. During one case, he hunted a killer who was draining the blood of beautiful girls on the Las Vegas strip. "Midnight Ride" is being written by "Batman Forever" scribes Lee and Janet Batchler. The film will focus on Revere and that 24-hour period in which he made the risky ride from Charlestown to Lexington, becoming a seminal figure in the American Revolutionary War.

Johnny Depp has lined up two new film projects for himself, that he will produce, and most likely star in. The films are in the process of being set up at Disney through his Infinitum Nihil production company. Disney has made a ton of money off Depp of the years, so I'm sure they will do anything he wants. One film is called The Night Stalker, the other is called Paul Revere's Midnight Ride.
The Night Stalker is an adaptation of a series of 1970's ABC TV movies. The story follows a Chicago newspaper reporter named Carl Kolchak, who investigates mysterious crimes with unlikely causes, particularly ones law enforcement authorities won't pursue. Often these crimes involve some element of the supernatural or science fiction, such as fantastical creatures like vampires, zombies, werewolves and aliens. The series is often credited as being the inspiration for The X-Files. Depp would of course...

Exclusive: Disney and Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil are teaming up on two new projects: a feature version of the '70s TV movie The Night Stalker, and a drama about the Midnight Ride made by Paul Revere to warn Colonial militia of the impending British invasion. Depp is the potential star of both films, and he and his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski will produce. Like many, Dembrowski and Depp had fond memories of the ABC telepic and series The Night Stalker, and they got Disney's Rich Ross and Sean Bailey sparked on a pitch for Depp to potentially play tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak. Originated by Darren McGavin, Kolchak was the dogged journalist first seen in the 1972 telepic (where he hunted a killer who was draining the blood of beautiful girls on the Las Vegas strip) and later in the ABC series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Kolchak's investigations always...

All those PopWatchers out there who think blogs about politics have no place on an entertainment website obviously haven’t been watching cable TV news this week. There’s been comedy. There’s been pathos. There’s been Anthony Weiner’s underpants. Even Republican candidate for president Rick Santorum couldn’t help mixing a little pop culture into his campaign, launching his candidacy at a rally in Pennsylvania on Monday with Randy Jackson’s catchphrase from American Idol 2011, “We’re in it to win it.” Of course, a little later that morning, Santorum had a new catchphrase — “humina humina” — when...
