Thanksgiving is this week. It is a holiday to celebrate everything that we’re thankful for and gorge ourselves on delicious food. It is also a holiday that doesn’t see a lot of TV episodes based on it. At least not compared to say Christmas or Halloween. I imagine a good part of that is that Thanksgiving is not an international holiday and thus would have very little significance when aired in other countries. That said, some shows do it, and they do it phenomenally, so here are my top 3 Thanksgiving TV show episodes. This list is in no particular order, and I have limited it to one per TV show.
3. “Turkey Day” – Boy Meets World
Boy Meets World is one of my favorite shows from growing up. This episode is a highlight because it shows the tension that can arise when two worlds collide. Cory and Shawn want...

The biggest shock to come from this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live” is that Chance The Rapper can apparently exist without his signature hat. He might even thrive without it, which is a fascinating reality to accept. The point is, with or without the hat, Chance The Rapper hosts the best episode of this season so far, the first one to maintain a consistently good quality from top to bottom as well as successfully use the host to their strengths. In fact, Chance The Rapper showed signs in this episode of being the next Justin Timberlake for “Saturday Night Live” in terms of his versatility, gameness, and general sense of humor as a host.
The second biggest shock is that, despite the opening monologue, the “Family Feud” sketch, and some Weekend Update, this year’s Thanksgiving episode is not tied down to the concept of being a Thanksgiving episode.

“Saturday Night Live” and actual comedians often go together like chocolate and peanut butter (two things which the candy industry often says go together). This was, of course, a talking point for the last new episode of this season, the Kumail Nanjiani episode, and now it’s the case for L-Vid himself, Larry David.
Host: Larry David
“You tolerate me. You really, really tolerate me.”
Those are Larry David’s opening remarks in his monologue, and it’s almost all surprisingly uphill (with a major bump, in the form of a Holocaust joke) from there. “Surprisingly,” because this season’s start has boasted relatively solid monologues so far, only for the main show to end up uneven, unfortunately not always playing to the strengths of its hosts.
At the same time, a sense of confidence and boldness comes with professional maturity. For someone like Larry David, there’s a sense...

Mother-daughter relationships have always been the stuff of great drama. And the Oscars are no exception. Three decades ago the “Moonstruck” acting duo Olympia Dukakis and Cher both won gold for playing a strong-willed New York Italian mother and her feisty daughter. Six years later, as a mute Scottish teacher and her de facto interpreter in New Zealand, Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin repeated that twofer triumph with Jane Campion’s “The Piano.”
Onscreen mother-daughter conflict has resulted in other dual Academy Award nominations: selfless Barbara Stanwyck tricked Anne Shirley into marrying rich in tearjerker “Stella Dallas” (1937); Meryl Streep’s big mouth inspired a rebellious Julia Roberts in “August: Osage County” (2013); Piper Laurie was literally crucified by Sissy Spacek in “Carrie” (1976). At the start of this decade, Mo’Nique won an Oscar portraying the sexually abusive parent of fellow “Precious” nominee Gabourey Sidibe. Back in 1984, both Shirley MacLaine and...

Before Lili Reinhart found fame playing the near-perfect blonde schoolgirl Betty Copper on the CW’s hit TV show Riverdale, she was a budding actress suffering from crippling anxiety — including what she calls “the worst panic attack of my life.”
The 20-year-old actress opened up about her battle with the disorder in a new interview with W magazine, where she explained that she had to flee Los Angeles and move back in with her parents in North Carolina to get a handle on her mental health.
Living in L.A. in shared apartments at just 18, Reinhart was auditioning as much as possible at the time.

The 24-year-old singer is teaming up with Chris Lane for his next single, "Take Back Home Girl," a soulful ode to those girls you can bring home to mom. The song will be featured on Lane's next album.
"I've been a big fan of Tori's for quite some time and I had this song that I was looking for a duet with," Lane tells Et exclusively. "They asked me, 'Who's your dream collaboration partner?' and she was the first person I said."
"I got a random text message from my manager sending me the song and he was like, 'Do you like it?' and I was like, 'I actually am obsessed with it,'" Kelly says. "He didn't even tell me the artist or anything and we were like, 'Cool! Let's do it.'"

Genevieve Gorder, beloved for both her innovative design as well as her quirky personality (and habit of working barefoot), became a hero to families across America as she redesigned their homes with TLC's Trading Spaces in the early 2000s. Fans couldn't have been happier when it was announced that Gorder would be returning to the series in 2018 after its 10-year hiatus, but a lot has changed for the designer since she's been on the show.
"[My reaction] was mixed when I first heard the news," Gorder told Et over the phone last week, explaining that Trading Spaces' original run "felt so perfect and compartmentalized in my mind."
"It was the first transformation design show in our country. I was scared that any kind of reinterpretation, if it wasn't completely authentic, could tarnish the guilt on that perfect thing in my memory," she said. "But when I heard that they were going to bring back everyone else, all of us, and...

Exclusive: Jill Soloway and Alexandra Billings Discuss How Far-ish Transgender Storytelling Has Come
In its fourth season, Transparent delves into more of the Pfefferman family ancestry and anxiety -- if the latter were possible. As the crew travels to Israel so Maura can attend a conference, the Holy Land serves as a place for revelations and realizations for everyone. Back home in California, Davina’s origin story becomes clearer as she struggles with her own illness and her place in life and stars in the first nude scene of a transperson on television.
“First, television has never seen a trans person, certainly with the age I am and with the body that I have, naked on television,” says Alexandra Billings, who plays Davina. “There is a care that Jill and the writers took -- it wasn’t about fetishizing or sexualizing, and it wasn’t desexualized. It was simple, plain conversation.”

After picking up the Art Cinema Award at this year’s Cannes Director’s Fortnight — the highest honor the lauded sidebar bestows on its always-compelling selection — Chloé Zhao’s “The Rider” is setting off on a high-powered fall festival tour, including stops at both Tiff and Nyff. Based on our newest look at the moving and elegiac story, which draws on the real experiences of leading man Brady Jandreau, Zhao has a major contender on her hands.
The film, Zhao’s follow-up to her “Songs My Brothers Taught Me,” bowed at the festival back in May, but has continued to spin very positive buzz. Stops at Toronto and New York should only continue to bolster the gorgeous, personal film.

Beside glorious vineyards and lush countryside on the Greek island of Evia, a barbed wire fence encircles a dusty, barren former military encampment where 1,000 Syrian refugees are housed in metal containers. People walk slowly at the Ritsona camp, with few places to go, and hopelessness fills the air as no one knows when or if they can go home or be permanently resettled. Yet nine women have set to work on two looms, weaving mats with red, black, silver, orange and lime green threads. Not really threads. Cloth from life jackets worn by refugees as they fled Syria. And they are not just mats.

Kanye West filed a $10 million lawsuit on Tuesday against multiple syndicates of insurance marketplace Lloyd's of London, alleging that they have not paid out on a claim filed by West's company, Very Good Touring, Inc., after the rapper scrapped several planned performance dates on his Saint Pablo Tour.
According to court documents obtained by Et, West's company obtained "non-appearance or cancellation" insurance before the tour began. When West was hospitalized in November 2016, the remaining dates on his tour were cancelled, and his company submitted a claim.
According to the lawsuit, Very Good Touring, Inc., alleges that the cancellations were due to a "debilitating medical condition."

I’d just had this beautiful kid. I was high on life. That was a joke that I didn’t need to hear. Back home, I didn’t recognize my body. I had massive Ddd boobs.

First-time parents like Peta Murgatroyd know that handling a newborn baby can be pretty scary at first.
In her cover story for Fit Pregnancy and Baby, the new mom — who brought along son Shai Aleksander, 4 months, for the shoot! — admits there were certain tasks she was hesitant to take on by herself during those initial few weeks of parenthood.
“At first, I had no idea what I was doing. I’d never even held a newborn before. I was nervous, and I didn’t want to make any mistakes,” says the Dancing with the Stars pro. “I tried to give...

The sestras will return for their final “Orphan Black” ride in June, but they’ll go down fighting.
When last we left the Leda clones, Alison (Tatiana Maslany) and husband Donnie (Kristian Bruun) had gone out hiding in the woods, along with the very pregnant Helena (Maslany). Meanwhile, Sarah (Maslany) is injured and on the run after Rachel (Maslany) went on a homicidal rampage. Rachel is now about to meet the mysterious P.T. Westmoreland, the founder of Neolution, a Victorian-era man who is somehow still alive. We had also seen Cosima’s (Maslany) reunion with Delphine (Evelyne Brochu), and Kira (Skyler Weller) and Mrs. S (Maria Doyle Kennedy) being held hostage.

This week’s episode of Arrow, despite its synopsis, wasn’t so much about the manhunt for Adrian Chase but the lengths that different factions were willing to go, who they would betray, to succeed.

It creeps and leaps and slides and glides along the wall… and then it eats your face, dude. Mario Bava and Riccardo Freda’s ultimate monster mastication epic now looks sensationally gory, thanks to a full restoration. Arrow’s disc has pretty much everything, including two transfers and two audio commentaries. And Savant has a guilty admission to make — it was the tripe, the whole tripe, and nothing but the tripe.

You probably recognize Gilbert Gottfried’s name (after all, he’s the most famous Gilbert who’s ever lived), and you definitely recognize his voice, but other than his career-defining performance as Iago in “Aladdin,” how much of his work can you remember off the top of your head?
Mileage will vary, of course, but even Gottfried devotees could agree that the guy’s persona has outsized his resumé. That’s not to knock his stand-up comedy or his appearances in the likes of “Beverly Hills Cop II” and “Saved By the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas,” but rather to say that he’s become an ambient part of our culture, less of a celebrity than the human embodiment of a modern court jester. He’s not a man, but a squint and an aggressive whine; he’s the joke you shouldn’t tell in public, the furniture at a Friar’s Club roast.

The actor’s 59th birthday celebrations were documented on social media by wife Hilaria Baldwin, who shared a series of photos from the big day on Monday.
In one image, Alec rested his head and looked exhausted as he sat between two of his children: Carmen Gabriela, 3 1/2, and Rafael Thomas, 1.
“Happy birthday dada,” wrote Hilaria, 33.
Later, Alec and baby Leonardo Angel Charles, 6 months, posed with his cake and its creator, Marco Vacchi, at Madman Espresso in New York City.

Things went from bad, to worse, to horrendous for Harlee Santos on Shades of Blue Season 2 Episode 5.
But the highlight was Harlee head butting Bianchi's enforcer. I'm betting he never saw that coming, and it was awesome.
However, when you mess with a mobster, you need to expect a certain amount of collateral damage.
Maybe Harlee should be relieved that the person who ended up dead wasn’t closer to her, because I don’t see Bianchi as the kind of guy who cares too much about who he murders.
Harlee: That woman had nothing to do with you and me.
Bianci: But that's the problem with the dirty end of the field, isn't it? A lot of collateral damage. And that clip of yours holds nine, minus the one. That leaves a lot more bullets.

Was that the finale you had in mind for such a brilliant freshman season?
It's not easy to say, but This Is Us Season 1 Episode 18 failed to deliver on its promises. There were no tears, not a lot of emotion and the bottle episode focusing on a failing relationship wasn't nearly as effective as it should have been.
I'm not left wondering what's next for Jack and Rebecca, but why I don't really care.
Theirs is supposed to be a love affair for the ages, and I believe Jack thinks that it is. He feels a lot of love for Rebecca and his family.
By witnessing everything that happened to the couple just prior to their meeting, why he fell so hard for her makes more sense than ever before. She was not only beautiful and talented (and whatever else he discovered soon after meeting her), but she quite literally...

See related The enduring appeal of Blizzard's Overwatch Overwatch: major changes are on the way
After the shock ending of the previous episode, Holly’s understandably a bit curious about what the interns and, by association Georgia, are really getting up to. Making tea and getting photocopies doesn’t usually end with you jumping off a hospital roof after slitting your wrists.
She does everything she can to track down a still-missing Georgia, and when she does - having sex in her dorm room - there’s barely a batted eyelid. Because we’re watching a television programme that promises to fit into the psychological thriller genre, we’re expecting things to unravel in a fairly sinister way, but to the characters this seems like a pretty standard suicide.

In our current political climate, as I watch the sides battle it out in their beliefs of who is right and who is wrong, I can only wonder whether either would have the temerity to survive if circumstances reached a boiling point.
While it may not be quite boiling yet, the events of Colony Season 2 Episode 8 are only going add fuel to the fire.
Survival continues to depend upon gray areas. If you're staunchly black or white, i.e., unwilling to temporarily work with the other side to gain information and ensure you live to fight another day, your days will be numbered. There's no question about it.
What many of us have already determined, and what it appears those we appreciate the most on Colony are also realizing, is that these groups cannot continue to function as silo organizations and hope to outwit the Raps.

The main special effect in “A Ghost Story” is older than the movies: After a young Dallas musician (Casey Affleck) dies in a car crash, he returns as a ghost to the home he shared with his wife (Rooney Mara), and he’s draped in a sheet with hastily made cutout eyeholes, like some misbegotten Halloween costume.
Yet writer-director David Lowery channels the absurdity of this setup into an extraordinary mood piece that amounts to his best movie yet. Lowery has quickly developed a filmography that mines for awe in solitude, and here delivers a cosmic variation on that theme, exploring the ineffable relationship between people and the meaning they give to the places that have value in their lives. Both formally ambitious and emotionally accessible, “A Ghost Story” transforms its main stunt into a savvy dose of minimalism with existential possibilities that cut deep.

A horse is a horse, of course, of course, except when that horse is actually a symbolic endorsement of a controversial geopolitical movement that could escalated tensions with the Chinese.
Madam Secretary Season 3 Episode 10 was nice lighthearted break from the recent heavier issues the show tackled.
Blake found himself in a manufactured international comedy of errors, Russell was right back up to his old tricks, and Henry just can't stay away from spy craft.
I really expected hippophile Elizabeth to be the one most invested in the titular horse's future, so Blake's sudden devotion was surprising. And hilarious.
I just kept picturing him begging for a pony as a kid and only getting those Breyer figurines instead.
I can only assume (and hope) that the Mongolian Independence issue and Russian hacking will come up again later in Madam Secretary Season 3 so that this plot line was good for more than...

Rogue One opened in 54 markets overseas this weekend, but has yet to reach big markets like China and Korea. Despite that, it's already earned an awesome $135.4 million , a figure which gives it the fourth highest December debut of all-time behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($281 million), Avatar ($164.5 million), and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ($138 million). That's a great result! For those of you wondering, the top five markets were Germany ($12.5 million), Australia ($10.8 million), France ($10 million) and Japan ($7.9 million).
