It’s well-established cultural lore that the 1990s are of mythical importance to many Gen-Xers and even some millennials.
But why though? Was it the relatively strong economy? Preponderance of the color teal? Or even just the fact that the ’90s was the last decade to seem like its own distinct thing before new millennium turned intervals of 10 into an unrecognizable sludge? Seriously – you rarely hear people opine for the innocent times of the “’00s” or “’10s” because that just sounds ridiculous.
All of those are possibilities but real ’90s-heads know the appeal comes down to one thing alone: the cartoons. Animation quite simply dominated the end of the 20th century. With Nickelodeon, Disney, MTV, and many other studios operating at full capacity, the decade was filled with creative and entertaining options. From crude renderings to lush, operatic works, the ’90s had something for every animation fan.

I recently did a list of 1980s cartoons that I thought a lot of people had forgot about. Our readers really seemed to like it, and I know a lot of our readers grew up in the 1990s, so I thought I'd put together a list of animated series from that decade that you might not remember. We all have our favorites, like Batman: The Animated Series, Animanicas, X-Men, Spawn, and Gargoyles, but there are some cartoons that may have just slipped through the cracks of our minds. Just because these series are on the list doesn't mean they were bad shows. Although some of them definitely were.
Sonic Underground
Not only was this series poorly made, but it had a pretty awful theme song. The story is set in a completely different canon than any of the other Sonic the Hedgehog media. The ruler of Mobius, Queen Aleena, is overthrown by Dr.

Welcome to the first installment of an on going look at various horror themed cartoons and toys from multiple eras. I decided to start with a series that despite multiple tries was unable to ever be picked up as an on going animated series. Monster in My Pocket, a line of miniature toys inspired by various legendary creatures from film, mythology, cryptozoology, and other paranormal realms when it debuted in 1990. Originally sold as trading cards and stickers before being released as toys in single packets, packets of four, secret twelve packs, and 24 packs, causing this then eight-year-old horror fan, to instantly fall in love with the toys and try my best to collect all 229 variants of the little rubber figures, my personal favorite being the Cerberus.
Figures
All though as child I had no clue that some of these figures were only obtainable through various promotions through assorted restaurant chains...
