Who’s ready for a joyride? The long-rumored Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off, Sam and Victor’s Day Off, is ready to twist and shout with David Katzenberg at the helm. According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Katzenberg is buckling up for a film featuring the two mischievous valets who borrowed Cameron’s father’s Ferrari to rip through the streets of Chicago joyously! In his newsletter, Sneider says the duo’s adventure takes place on a single day, with Sam and Victor grabbing life by the short and curlies for a fast-paced tear through city streets.
Sam and Victor’s Day Off will be Katzenberg’s feature directorial debut after helming numerous television episodes for various shows. Famously known in the industry for directing 41 episodes of The Goldbergs, Katzenberg’s director credits extend to Young Rock, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Schooled, Riverdale, and more.

A year and a half on from the project’s announcement, the valet-centric Ferris Bueller spin-off flick now has a director, but its script still isn’t finalised, according to reports.
It was all the way back in August of 2022 that we heard that the iconic 1986 comedy, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, would be getting a spin-off movie. Apparently, the film is set to ‘follow the two valets who took Cameron’s father’s cherry red Ferrari on a joy ride through Chicago and had their own adventure on that fateful day back in 1986.’ If you watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off then you know exactly what we’re talking about.
If you’ve never watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, then why are you here reading this when you could be watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time?

Production on Paramount Pictures’ spinoff for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is well into development, with the production house naming David Katzenberg as the film’s director.
The news of Katzenberg joining the project was first reported by Jeff Sneider and and has since been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. Previously, Katzenberg produced Warner Bros. 2017 rendition of It, and has directed for series like The Goldbergs, Average Joe, 911: Lone Star, Young Rock, and more.
The Ferris Bueller spinoff was first announced a couple of years ago, and will center around the two valets from the original movie who take Cameron’s father’s 1961 Ferrari for a joyride. The characters didn’t originally have names, but have been dubbed “Sam” and “Victor,” resulting in the new spinoffs title: Sam and Victor’s Day Off.

As the daughter of the misanthropic waitress Carla (Rhea Perlman) and Nick Tortelli (Dan Hedaya) on "Cheers," the role of Serafina Tortelli was a highly coveted role for many of the young actresses in Hollywood in the early 1990s. The character was ultimately played by Leah Remini, who at the time had been making a name for herself on TV shows like "Who's The Boss," "Living Dolls," and "Saved by the Bell." This was obviously years before she'd become one of the leading sitcom wives thanks to "King of Queens" and a host with "The Talk" and "People Puzzler," but the early career role is still beloved by her fans.
In her 2015 memoir "Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology," Remini claimed the role of Serafina Tortelli on "Cheers" was between her and Jennifer Aniston. Hollywood can be a cutthroat industry, but Remini said that she and Aniston had a friendly rapport...

"Only Murders in the Building" season 3 has a few songs in its heart. A musical theatre aficionado will have a ball with season 3 of "Only Murders in the Building," thanks to Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) converting his outlandish murder-mystery play "Death Rattle" into a musical.
While the trio are solving yet another murder, this season is brimming with musical references. In season 3, episode 2, a recuperating Putnam hallucinates his loved ones performing a pastiche of "There'll Be Some Changes Made" from the Bob Fosse-directed "All That Jazz." It's a cutting reference because said musical film, especially this particular number, metatextually tackles the director's heart attack. It deals with mortal self-flagellation, both for Fosse and in-universe for Fosse's fictional avatar.
In contrast, the show also applies a more lighthearted reference to "The Producers" that complements Oliver's pursuits. After a falling out with his friend Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver needs a replacement for the Investigator.

No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

John Hughes‘ 1986 film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is one of the all-time teen movies and may be the most popular film of his career. But Indiewire reports that according to star Matthew Broderick, it wasn’t always rosy on the film’s set. In fact, Broderick’s relationship with Hughes making the film was strained, with the director at one point going so far as to call the actor’s performance “boring.”

John Milius' Reagan-era action hit "Red Dawn" wasn't just a running "Hot Tub Time Machine" gag; the Cold War fantasy of guerilla patriot youths marked a new peak of commercial success for the "Wind and the Lion" director and stimulated the careers of several of its young stars.

The Ferrari 250 Gt California featured in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the more iconic vehicles of ’80s cinema, and someone just bought it for a whopping 337, 500 at auction. That’s quite the price tag, especially considering that the car doesn’t even have an engine and obviously isn’t driveable. Has anyone checked under the hood for a drawing of an engine?
The Ferrari isn’t a real one but was one of three replicas built for Ferris Buller’s Day Off, with this particular model being used as the “crash car” for the memorable scene in which it flies backwards out of Cameron’s father’s glass garage, plummeting to the ground below. Netflix’s Cobra Kai returned for its fifth season on September 9 and since then, the popular series has taken control of the No. 1 on the streamer’s top 10 list with no signs of slowing down.
And thanks to that continued success, series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg are in very high demand. The trio is currently working on their upcoming Netflix series Obliterated, a “high octane” action-comedy that tells the story of an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas.
Deadline also recently revealed exclusively that Heald, Hurwitz, and Schlossberg are working on a film for Paramount Pictures titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, a spinoff of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off focusing on the valet drivers who went on a joyride in the John Hughes film.

“Bandit” may be, as it proudly declares up front, based on a true story. But it’s hard to believe the titular antihero was quite as charming as the guy playing him.
Josh Duhamel is Robert Whiteman — or, technically, Gilbert Galvan Jr., as he’s known before he escapes a Michigan jail and flees to Ontario in 1985. He becomes Whiteman when he buys a homeless man’s ID, so he can get a job selling ice cream. But when he’s fired, he needs a new gig fast. Unfortunately, even in Canada it’s tough to find work as a wanted convict.
So Robert starts looking around for ways to make some easy money. Actually, make that fast money. Canadian banks, he learns while robbing them, have very little security, and he’s in and out in minutes. But it’s definitely work, what with the careful planning, the costumes and prosthetics,...

Has '80s nostalgia in Hollywood gotten out of hand? Yes. But then again, it's not like we're gonna complain about a spin-off of the best '80s movie of all time. Rather than attempting any sort of remake or sequel, "Sam and Victor's Day Off" will take us through the day of the two valet drivers who took the Ferrari on a joy ride and caused Cameron (Alan Ruck) so many headaches. We don't have many details just yet, but we know the movie will be made by the same creators behind "Cobra Kai," the successful TV spinoff of "Karate Kid."
Much like how "Cobra Kai" explores the perspectives of characters who didn't get the main focus in the original movie, this spinoff is expected to depict some events of "Ferris Bueller" from the outside point of view the valets provide. As co-creator Jon Hurwitz explained, "Some of the...

Ferris Bueller may be headed back to the big screen. Sort of.
A spinoff of the 1986 John Hughes teen comedy classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is being developed by Paramount Studios, according to a new report from Deadline. However, this new project won’t focus on the character famously played by Matthew Broderick. The Ferrari played a pivotal role in the movie, as fans will recall.

Deadline reports that Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald are developing a spinoff of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for Paramount Pictures.
The Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spinoff is titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off and will follow the “same-day adventures of the titular valets who took the Ferrari on a joy ride” in the 1986 John Hughes movie. The original roles were played by Richard Edson and Larry “Flash” Jenkins, but the characters weren’t given names at the time. Bill Posley (Bitch Ass) is slated to pen the script for the spinoff.

The conservator for “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” actress Edie McClurg was granted a restraining order against an alleged abuser on Tuesday, according to documents obtained by TheWrap.
The conservatorship was set up in 2019 and is run by “Life in Pieces” actress Angelique Cabral, whose mother is McClurg’s cousin.
The documents state that Cabral is “highly concerned” about a man named Michael Ramos, who has been living with the 78-year-old character actress and previously attempted to marry her. According to the documents, he sexually assaulted one of McClurg’s caregivers, and that woman fears he might also be assaulting McClurg.

Just a few months ago, Netflix appeared to be on a very rough track. Then Stranger Things season 4 came around and led to a less-apocalyptic-than-expected Q2 earnings report for the streamer. With its new releases for August 2022, however, Netflix is going to have to find another hit to keep the good vibes rolling. Here are some of their best options.
Perhaps the biggest breakout candidate for Netflix this month is The Sandman on Aug. 5. Though Neil Gaiman’s classic comic has long been thought to be unadaptable, the folks behind 10-episode series are betting they’re the ones for the job. Get ready to meet Morpheus, the king of dreams and the ruler of The Dreaming.

The story follows 13-year-old Nate (newcomer Rueby Wood), an awkward, aspiring theater kid who can’t land a role in his school play, yet follows his dream from his hometown of Pittsburgh to audition on Broadway. Lisa Kudrow, Joshua Bassett, Aria Brooks and Broadway legends Michelle Federer and Norbert Leo Butz also star.
As the cast and crew gathered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood Tuesday night to celebrate the film’s April 1 launch on Disney Plus, Federle spoke to Variety about the story’s discussion of sexuality, the importance of LGBTQ representation in entertainment and weighed in on the controversy over Disney’s handling of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

With both title and central buddy dynamic tipping hat to “Superbad,” among other raunchy teen comedies, “Supercool” is not the kind of movie that wins prizes for originality. Nor is Finnish director Teppo Airaksinen’s first U.S.-shot, English-language project as outrageous as it thinks it is. Nonetheless, this energetic spin through high school antics redolent of everything since “Ferris Bueller” is colorful and amusing enough to entertain viewers looking for a familiar mix of bad-taste gags in a squeaky-clean suburban setting. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to 20 U.S. theater screens as well as on-demand platforms Feb. 11.

Pulling off a successful film to television adaptation is a tricky business. While TV series like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “M*A*S*H*” are stellar examples of TV adaptations that expanded and even elevated their film origins, there have also been forgettable failures like “Dirty Dancing” (1998) and “Ferris Bueller” (1990). In the case of “Cobra Kai,” which returns for its fourth season on Netflix, we’re treated to a series that faithfully honors its roots while managing to tell new and compelling stories through its two main protagonists, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel “Danny” Larusso (Ralph Macchio).
“Cobra Kai” is an extension of the 1984 film, “The Karate Kid,” which tells the story of Danny Larusso, a shy teenager who relocates from New Jersey to Los Angeles, and soon becomes the target of rich golden boy Johnny Lawrence, when they both vie for the affection of Ali Mills (Elisabeth Shue...

Netflix is set to lose “Friends” and “The Office” in the next couple of years. Yada, yada yada… the streaming giant is bringing in another former NBC sitcom to its service with “Seinfeld.”
Netflix announced on Monday that it landed the global rights to the comedy, which ran from 1989 to 1998, beginning in 2021. “Seinfeld” had been available on Hulu since 2015. Terms of the deal with Sony Pictures Television, which handles distribution of the show, were not disclosed.
“‘Seinfeld’ is the television comedy that all television comedy is measured against,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, said. “It is as fresh and funny as ever and will be available to the world in 4K for the first time. We can’t wait to welcome Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer to their new global home on Netflix.”

Matthew Broderick goes from Hollywood’s favorite high school truant to a positive principal in Netflix’s upcoming dramedy “Daybreak.”
And the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” references don’t end there, as the official trailer released Monday morning showed.
Star Colin Ford, who plays 17-year-old hero, Josh Wheeler, closes out the action-filled teaser with this drop-the-mic line honoring the 1986 John Hughes classic: “And you thought we weren’t going to have any fun with the apocalypse, shame on you.”

The Goldbergs is a fantasically funny show, with the best stories, jam-packed with nostalgia and ‘80s goodness all based on the life of creator Adam F. Goldberg. Now the spinoff, Schooled, is based on the character Laney Lewis, played by Aj Michalka, who was the best friend and girlfriend of two of the Goldberg teens. Lewis has fast-forwarded into the ‘90s where she is a high school teacher at William Penn Academy, with Principal Glascott (Tim Meadows), and some of our other favorite teachers from The Goldbergs in tow.
Each episode of The Goldbergs is based around a movie, show, event, album, or something pop-culture centered in the ‘80s. And it looks like Schooled has followed suit. This week’s episode was based on the Broadway musical Rent. As the show is just starting, it’s fun to think of all the awesome 9’0s themes they can run with in upcoming episodes of the series,...

Film-to-television show adaptations have been popular across genres for quite some time. Most recently, there’s been the success (and undue cancellation!) of “Hannibal” and the eerie A&E drama “Bates Motel.” Noah Hawley’s brilliant reimagining of “Fargo” for FX is perhaps the most prominent example of the practice and has already been renewed for a third season. Of course, there are certain television shows that spun-off popular films but didn’t pan out (looking at you, Jennifer Aniston in the short-lived tv version of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”), and we’ve found one in the lost episodes of “Fast Times,” a small-screen version of Amy Heckerling’s cult classic “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Read More: The 20 Greatest Musical Moments In The Films Of Cameron Crowe Famously penned by Cameron Crowe and which provided his entry into filmmaking, the script for the film was based on his...

Actors who are cast in a film together often posses a certain quality or look that make them suitable as co-stars. And in this world of sequels, prequels, remakes, and competing franchises, it can be those same characteristics that also make them fitting for the same roles. Here are ten sets of actors who had played, or ended up playing, the same character as their co-star - but in a different movie (with a couple of television series exceptions):

The actress celebrates her 46th birthday Wednesday, so we're taking a trip back to 1990 when Et first sat down with then-21 year old star, who had just landed a supporting role as Jeannie in the short-lived TV adaptation of Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Jennifer Aniston has been sporting iconic looks for two and a half decades, her first appearance in the spotlight beginning in 1990 with her run on the short-lived TV spin-off of Ferris Bueller. The fresh-faced Jen of the past has been on a steady evolution ever since, inspiring style copycats no matter what her haircut might be. Jen’s most iconic cut would come in 1995 when she chopped it into the iconic “Rachel,” which would then be copied a million times over. From there she has tried everything from twists to highlights, dark locks to a bob, and yet has always looked incredible and fresh. Somehow Jennifer has stayed true to herself and her easygoing style even while she changes up her hair game year after year. We can’t wait to see what she does next!

Bill Hader has come a long way since his stint on Saturday Night Live, creating many popular characters and impersonations such as Stefon, Vincent Price and CNN’s Jack Cafferty. He is one of the highlights in such films as Adventureland, Knocked Up, Superbad and Pineapple Express, and so it is easy to see why author Mike Sacks interviewed him for his new book Poking A Dead Frog. In it, Hader talks about his career and he also lists 200 essential movies every comedy writer should see. Xo Jane recently published the list for those of us who haven’t had a chance to read the book yet. There are a ton of great recommendations and plenty I haven’t yet seen, but sadly my favourite comedy of all time isn’t mentioned. That would be Some Like It Hot. Still, it really is a great list with a mix of old and new.

We’re still a few years away from being able to hop a quick flight into space (after our self-driving car parks itself in the terminal), but if you want to feel like you’re standing on another planet, you should watch the Ferris Bueller TV show. Created for NBC’s lineup in 1990, it’s an odd pop cultural artifact that plays like a window into an alternative universe that somehow exists in our own without melting all physical laws into shoe-ruining mud. In it, Charlie Schlatter is Ferris Bueller, Jennifer Aniston is his pissy sister Jeannie, and Richard Riehle (before he became rich inventing the Jump To Conclusions Mat) is the stuffy Principal Ed Rooney. The natural response is that these are impostors, that you’re somehow being tricked, and that instinctive mindset colors everything that the show does. It would probably be even stranger if the characters felt right while not looking right, but...

During her stint on the 1990 TV adaption of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” Jennifer Aniston had a brief love affair with a co-star and GQ Editor-in-Chief Jim Nelson is spilling the details.
Jim was a comedy writer’s assistant on the project and during his piece in the May 2014 issue of the men’s fashion magazine, he reveals that the “Friends” gal had a “brief, torrid” relationship with Charlie Schlatter during the show’s 13-episode run.
"To Aniston worshipers, I can offer little dirt," Nelson writes about the actress, who is now engaged to Justin Theroux. "She was lovely, kept to herself on the set, smoldering a bit like her outraged character, 17-year-old Jeannie Bueller. She was a brunette then, with none of Rachel Green's bob or self-possession.”
“GQ can exclusively report that everyone on set thought she was hot, including Schlatter, with whom she had a brief, torrid romance—while playing,...

Another Jennifer Aniston Ex Unearthed: GQ Editor Spills on Her "Torrid Romance" With a Former Costar
Jennifer Aniston was obviously irresistible long before she was one of Hollywood's best Friends. In what basically amounts to an aside in a new essay about his days as a writer's assistant on the TV-sitcom circuit, GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson reveals that Aniston had a fling with Charlie Schlatter, who played the titular truant in the short-lived small-screen version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The show lasted for one season between 1990 and 1991, and it sounds as if that hookup--when Aniston was barely 21—didn't last for nearly as long. "She was lovely, kept to herself on the set, smoldering a bit like her outraged character, 17-year-old Jeannie...

Bueller? Bueller? Long before Justin Theroux or even Brad Pitt swept Jennifer Aniston off her feet, another man romanced the then-future A-list superstar: Charlie Schlatter, her costar in the short-lived 1990 TV adaptation of the classic John Hughes film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Called simply Ferris Bueller, the NBC sitcom starred Schlatter in the title role (played memorably in the movie by Matthew Broderick), and a pre-Friends Aniston in the role of his sister, Jeannie (Jennifer Grey in the film). GQ Editor-in-Chief Jim Nelson was a comedy writer's [...]...

We're sure that whenever someone brings up "Leprechaun," Jennifer Aniston just laughs it off in her weirdly aggressive, somewhat entitled way, but you know that deep down she's completely seething. She certainly loses some points on our scorecard for not fully embracing her B-movie horror past — what, "The Bounty Hunter" was so much better?
"Leprechaun" was unleashed upon unsuspecting theaters in January 1993, more than a year before Aniston would first appear as Rachel Green on what was destined to be the long-running sitcom "Friends" (and at least a few months after her run as Jeannie Bueller on the short-lived "Ferris Bueller" TV show — remember that?). In the scene above, she descends into a filthy basement carrying a tray of iced tea for two, succumbing to Irish madness with calling out for her imaginary friend "Nathan," whom she also later references as the lusty Leprechaun caresses her luscious legs. Oh, the delusions of youth.

If you’re a child of the 1980’s, you’ll likely remember Ami Dolenz for her roles on films like Can’t Buy Me Love, She’s Out of Control, and Miracle Beach and guest spots on Silver Spoons, Webster, and Saved by the Bell: The College Years. She even played Sloan in the short-lived TV adaptation of Ferris Bueller. The actress, however, is no stranger to the horror genre as she’s had parts in films from Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings to the greatest (and quite possibly only) movie ever made about giant killer ticks, Ticks. Tony Randel’s 1993 flick is an absolute blast and an obvious time capsule of early 90’s movie clichés, in the very best way possible.
With Olive Films’ new Blu-ray of Ticks recently hitting stores, FEARnet sat down with Dolenz to discuss her memories of the film, Seth Green’s hair, and creepy crawlies.
