Not bad for a TV Movie.
lordbowler27 November 2003
This movie about a group of "Weekend Warriors", reservists, who are sent to Honduras to build a runway. Shortly after arriving an engineering group is sent to a small village to repair a bridge as a favor for the US Ambassador. Captain John Deason begins to question who he is really building the bridge for, the villagers?, or someone else? This movie was interesting, in that it showed something of where reservists come from and what they do when they are called up. The major actors in this movie are recognizable from more recent tv shows and movies. The acting was good and the locations looked authentic. The movie was interesting enough to watch for an hour and a half.

Standard Procedure

I enjoy watching this movie for only two reasons: because of its unabashed 80s giddiness and Daniel Stern, who is really the anchor of this film about army reservists deployed to Honduras to protect the construction of a bridge.

Although its subject is very unique, the film never does anything unexpected. It's all fairly typical military yarn, but does have great performances and an intense conclusion. Unfortunately, it does little to develop the characters or hold any sense of gravity.

Filmmaking-wise it has a boyscout's by-the-books competency, but it does not transcend its TV movie expectations.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie could only be enjoyable if you know absolutely nothing about the military. It does not accurately depict the military or the humanitarian mission of the 80s and 90s. According to this movie the reserve forces are just a hillbilly free for all. Its obvious that the creators just wanted to push their agenda, as opposed to make a film based on fact. Spoiler ****** At beginning of battle scene the first sgt seeks out the commander for order, and gets response of "i dont know" (because he only does this stuff on weekends. In reality, no matter how screwed up that unit is, squad leaders and team leaders would have control. Seriously disappointing. Slap in the face to every veteran who put some time in the guard/reserve. Sorry hollywood, not reality. Sorry you think so little of these folks you depicted in this propaganda film.
