The Watchers Trailer Review. (Photo Credit – Youtube)
The Watchers Trailer is now out. The story is written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M Night Shyamalan. The supernatural horror film is based on A.M. Shine’s book of the same name. It stars Dakota Fanning as Mina, along with Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan and Olwen Fouere.
After a thrilling teaser last month, the official trailer is now out. The 3-minute trailer is an extended version of the teaser, with additional scenes adding more suspense. We finally see more of how creepy the forest and shelter house are!
One unfortunate night, Mina (Dakota Fanning) gets stranded in a strange forest. Little did she know that her life wouldn’t be the same after that day. First, her car goes missing, and the forest starts making creepy sounds. A few strangers tell Mina she has five seconds until the shelter door closes.

There is not a more divisive filmmaker working today than M. Night Shyamalan. Everyone can basically agree that his 1999 breakthrough "The Sixth Sense" is a supernatural classic, but after that? Slip on the brass knuckles and get ready to rumble. Shyamalan's early 2000s hits "Unbreakable" and "Signs," along with his 2017 comeback "Split," generate the least amount of friction, but aside from those three, it's so very on. You'll hear reasonable defenses for just about all of his films (save for the singularly atrocious "The Last Airbender"). While it's hard to sway folks on a movie as wackadoodle as "The Happening," it is only a good thing to have a major filmmaker knocking out provocative original movies for major studios.
Shyamalan's latest provocation, "Trap," will be his first project under his first-look deal with Warner Bros., and as is typically the case with a new Shyamalan movie, we know next to nothing about it.

A group of people stuck in an isolated location being terrorized by enigmatic and very possibly supernatural forces residing just outside the barriers of their refuge, all of which feels more like a waking dream than events taking place in the real world? "The Watchers" is a Shyamalan joint alright, just not the Shyamalan who gave us thrillers like "Signs," "The Village," and "Knock at the Cabin." This intriguing big-screen take on A. M. Shine's novel of the same name instead comes from writer and director Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night and a first-time feature filmmaker looking to mark a splash after helming multiple episodes of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series "Servant" (which M. Night also worked on as a producer and director) and doing second unit work on some of her pop's pictures since his return to low-budget thrillers around a decade ago, starting with "The Visit.

Exclusive: Following SAG-AFTRA’s clearance of AppleTV+’s Israeli spy series Tehran and New Line’s horror movie Watchers –prolific projects from AMPTP studios that the guild remains in talks with– in their interim agreement process, some producers and filmmakers in town have been miffed.
How do some films get the go-ahead to shoot with SAG-AFTRA talent and others do not? Even when it seems like they’re AMPTP-backed projects?
It’s a complicated answer, but SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland told Deadline today at San Diego Comic-Con, “It goes to reflect the complexity and the business relationships and structures in this industry.”
Expounding on the process for landing a waiver, the SAG-AFTRA talks boss said, “the terms of the interim agreement are the terms of our last counter-offer to the AMPTP on all the issues in this negotiation.”
Things considered per each production are: “who’s eligible for them,...

M. The creature feature just isn’t explored enough anymore. Jaws was a monster of a success story and ended up having three sequels on its own and had a slew of imitators. 1980 would give us, in my humble opinion, one of the better ones with Alligator starring Robert Forster. It was successful too, making 6 and a half million on a 1.5-million-dollar budget. I know that’s not crazy money, but it was a hit and had a fun pedigree with it that remains very popular today. Its one of the movies that keeps selling well with new and old fans and so it recently got put on 4K. There weren’t as many creature flicks through the rest of the...

While the 1970s and 1980s were strong decades for independent horror filmmaking, the 1990s proved to be a somewhat interesting time, as there seemed to be an overall tendency for this realm of the industry to be focused on making sequels and creating franchises out of ’80s horror hits, with a few landmark indie horror projects in the mix as well. And since sequels were so dominant at that time, I thought it only made sense for us to start there for this look back on the history of ’90s indie horror cinema.
After the 1980s proved to be a great time for indie horror, where so many movies ended up being successful due to a combination of theatrical releases and the increasing popularity of home video, it feels like in the decade that followed, many producers working in the independent realm wanted to capitalize on those successes by turning...

James Corden announced he’d joined the “Impeachment: American Crime Story” fan club on Wednesday’s “Late Late Show” and recapped the first episode for viewers who have yet to jump on the bandwagon. But while he was giving everyone a synopsis of the Ryan Murphy-created anthology’s Monica Lewinsky-Bill Clinton scandal installment, he also managed to slip in a plug for a company near and dear to his heart: Weight Watchers.
“There’s a lot of ’90s references, but sometimes, they’ll reference something that you didn’t know was a ’90s reference because it is something that has really endured across the decades, showing how truly great the product actually is,” Corden said, before cutting to an actual “Impeachment” scene between Monica Lewinsky (Beanie Feldstein) and Linda Tripp (Sarah Paulson), where the two former White House employees discuss the lacking quality of the meals...

Something you should know about me for this month’s installment of Catalog From the Beyond is that as a kid, I was a huge fan of The Two Coreys. I could not get enough from Coreys Feldman or Haim, and of course much of this love springs from The Lost Boys, a pivotal movie in many of our collective horror educations. But I loved anything the Coreys put out, either together or on their own. And while everyone knows about Feldman’s hot streak of ’80s staples, I don’t think Haim gets nearly enough credit for his own contributions. He brought an earnest charm in early work like Silver Bullet and Lucas that later gave way to a mischievous streak in movies such as License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream. We get a dash of both personas in this month’s featured flick, the 1988 monster movie Watchers.

Whatever happens with the new Buffy TV series, there is a new Slayer story worth your time.
To tell you the truth, until recently, I was kind of over Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I got on board with the series late, binge-watching my then-roommate’s box sets to catch up in time to watch the final season air.
There are so many moments from that show that really show what a television series can be—and the series is still frequently regarded as one of the most influential and important shows of modern television. When the show concluded in 2003, I was satisfied with the ending. I watched some of the last season of Angel and dabbled in reading the Dark Horse comics for a bit (Season 8 had some very cool moments), but I found my interest waning.

The Avengers: Endgame trailer begins with Tony Stark contemplating his own imminent death on a ship that’s floating through space. Things look pretty bleak, too, as he’s already out of food and water and the oxygen’s going to be gone by the next morning. But unless Marvel’s hoping to make the film a downer the likes of which blockbuster cinema has never seen before, we don’t imagine it’ll have Tony Stark suffocating to death. That would be an unbelievable anticlimax for one of the most beloved heroes of the McU, so we’re fairly certain that he’ll be rescued. We just don’t know how.
Of course, the fans have their theories and the most recent one says that Stan Lee may be involved in Iron Man’s rescue. The comic book legend who passed away last month will have a cameo in...

The Dean Koontz novel “Strangers” is in development as a one-hour drama at Fox that hails from Jeff Davis.
“Strangers” tells the story of several different people, thousands of miles apart, from different walks of life, finding themselves struck by unusual fears and sudden phobias. A novelist in California suffers unbearable sleep terrors. In Boston, a surgeon’s intense panic attacks threaten her career. A priest in Chicago dreads the rise of the moon. An ex-Marine develops a paralyzing fear of the dark. They’re all connected by a forgotten trauma, repressed memories now surfacing and leading each of them to one destination: a small motel in Nevada where a dark secret lies hidden–one that could change the course of humanity itself.
Fox has given the project a script commitment with a penalty attached. Davis will write and executive produce, with Koontz and Josh Berman and Chris King of Osprey Productions also executive producing.

It wouldn’t be an entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if Stan Lee didn’t appear, right? Though he doesn’t turn up in the flesh in the Marvel/Netflix series, the granddaddy of the franchise still makes his presence felt in a running gag in which he plays a poster boy cop, often seen in flyers on posters spread around the streets of New York. Putting them all together, we can assume that this version of Lee’s a respected retired police officer.
These aren’t always easy to spot, though, so you might well have missed his poster in Luke Cage season 2. Whenever the government attempts to create some kind of genetically-altered monstrosity for use as a secret weapon, things always tend to get a little hairy. Have you seen and/or read Dean Koontz’ “Watchers”? That movie should be shown in every school across the country. Everything you need to know about the consequences of such wonky experimentation can found in other like-minded endeavors, including director Keith R. Robinson’s upcoming creature feature “Pounce”. The film further illustrates the inherent dangers of turning furry animals into trained killers, especially when teenagers are in danger of being devoured by the monster. This happens more often than you’d think. Have a look at this handy synopsis: Pounce is about a group of conspiracy theorists bent on secretly watching a covert military base in the desolate Welsh mountains, looking for experimental and highly classified test aircraft to report to a Fortean-style magazine. Studies have shown that Hidden Gems of the Week, EW.com’s collection of reader-submitted ridiculata, is the best way to enjoy Dancing With the Stars without ever having to turn it on. It’s a visual feast of sparkles, fringe, and Maks’ ass. Double dose of jewels this week — next week, I’ll be on a trip to outer space (Planet Mirrorballus itself) and might not get to spend five hours heavily petting my screengrabber.

Casting news for the Stephen Sommers-directed adaptation of Dean Koontz‘s Odd Thomas: Addison Timlin is in talks to join star Anton Yelchin, and Tim Robbins may also be circling the project. [Variety]
Despite an earlier report that Lily Collins (just cast as Tarsem‘s Snow White) would appear in the film, evidently Californication‘s Timlin is now the frontrunner for the role of Stormy Llewellyn, the girlfriend of Yelchin’s titular character, a clairvoyant short order cook who must use his power to avoid (or prevent) a major catastrophe (and apparently commune with dead celebrities such as Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley).
There’s no word yet on who Tim Robbins might play (fingers crossed for Orson Welles – but perhaps the killer Harlo Landerson, see synopsis below), but according to Bloody Disgusting, he’s also in talks for a role. Given that Dean (“The Poor Man’s Stephen King...

I have always cherished Lucas more than any John Hughes film dealing with the high school caste system. For me it falls just below Heathers in that regard, which is fitting since both featured Winona Ryder. But like in the choir scene from Lucas, nobody's looking at Ryder today. We're all looking at the film's star, Corey Haim.
Anyone who had interests outside the norm of high school students, anyone who ever wanted to fit in at least at some point as a teenager, anyone who ever had a crush on an older, inaccessible schoolmate had to have appreciated Lucas. As has been pointed out a few places today, it was a more genuine precursor to Rushmore, which comparatively lacks charm.
If Lucas wasn't your bag, though, you at least had to have thoughts of Haim in License to Drive when it was your time to be introduced to the frightening world of the Dmv.

Former child star Corey Feldman was planning a big screen comeback in a License To Drive sequel with late friend Corey Haim before his death on Wednesday.
Haim, 38, was discovered unresponsive at his mother's California home on Wednesday and was pronounced dead upon arrival at St Joseph's hospital in Burbank.
Feldman and Haim were dubbed 'The Two Coreys' after appearing in a string of movies together in the 1980s, including The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Watchers and Dream A Little Dream.
The pair made a brief appearance together on screen in 2008 sequel Lost Boys: The Tribe, but they haven't headlined a movie together since 1997's Busted. They were most recently seen in U.S. reality TV show The Two Coreys.
And Feldman is devastated at the loss of his pal, because only three weeks ago they were discussing moving in together and resurrecting the TV series and their movie partnership.
Feldman tells U.S. talk show host Larry King, "Just three weeks ago, I sat at his apartment with him and we were talking about my divorce, of all things... And we started talking about, hey, wouldn't this be a great idea to have a third season (of) The Two Coreys? We can have you move back in with me and, you know, and now my wife is out and you're in and this is what everybody wanted to see, was the two of us living together in a house.
"Not only were we negotiating a film to do together, but Corey had a concept to do License to Fly, which would have been a sequel to License to Drive. We actually had a series of meetings this week... Both of us would have been in it. He would have been one of the writers. I would have been one of the producers. And we wanted to do a trilogy, which was all his concept, License to Fly and License to Dive. It was going to be caper movies."
Haim's agent, Mark Heaslip, was also pleased by the upturn in his client's career, after signing him up for movies including The Science of Cool opposite Mischa Barton and The Throwaways alongside pop star-turned-actor Luke Goss.
He adds, "He was starting to get movie after movie. He was actually starting to book up this whole year. And he was excited. He actually had a chance to direct his first film this year."...

As Scott Weinberg shared this morning, Corey Haim died last night from an apparent accidental overdose. He was 38.
This was, of course, no shock. The actor had been struggling with drugs for most of his life, having told the media that it all started when he smoked his first joint while working on The Lost Boys twenty-three years ago. Haim hit it big, fell into B-movie hell, spent all his cash on drugs, and then struggled to fight his way out of addiction and financial turmoil. Unfortunately, reuniting with buddy Corey Feldman in the last handful of years and allowing his life to become reality show fodder wasn't the best move, branding him as a desperate and emotionally tarnished actor past his prime.
But it wasn't always that way. Like Scott, Haim held a special place in my heart. He was the one young actor I followed beyond a project or two,...

I am, and always will be a fan of the two Corey’s, so to hear of Corey Haim’s passing earlier today came as something of a shock. Whilst I have already posted a quick tribute this morning, I’ve had time to think about the situtation and can think of nothing better than celebrating Corey Haim’s body of work, and perhaps highlighting some of his films that you may never have seen.
So in honour of one of my favourite actors I present the Top Ten Movies of Corey Haim:
1) Dream a Little Dream
Whilst this bodyswap film (of sorts) did excellent business in the Us, spawning a Top 10 hit song, Dream a Little Dream didn’t set the UK alight. I didn’t discover the film until 1992 when I first rented it at my local video shop, in fact once I did rent the tape...

Corey Haim, the star of The Lost Boys and Lucas, has died aged 38. We pay tribute to an actor who grew up in the limelight, but whose adult career was spent sadly in search of it
The road to adulthood for the child star is frequently a rocky one. For Corey Haim, who has died at the age of 38, it proved, in the end, too much to negotiate. Haim's guileless, fun-loving, all-American brand of youth and confidence won him many admirers. But it was a difficult schtick to carry into adulthood.
Born in Toronto in 1971, Haim enrolled in acting lessons to help cure his shyness. He proved a natural, with a great fresh grin and an easy way with a one-liner, which won him a small role, aged 12, on TV show The Edison Twins.
His debut feature film was Firstborn, an early vehicle for then-couple Robert Downey Jr and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Canadian actor Corey Haim has died in California after allegedly suffering a drug overdose.
The 38-year-old star reportedly collapsed at his home in Oakwood in the early hours of Wednesday morning and his distraught mother called emergency services. He was taken to St Joseph's hospital in Burbank, where he was pronounced dead.
Sergeant Frank Albarren, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, tells MSNBC.com, "It was an apparent overdose. Unknown what type of medication."
Haim had reportedly been sick in the days before his death, suffering flu-like symptoms, according to TMZ.com.
The actor had a history of drug problems and had spoken candidly of his longrunning battle with substance abuse.
Born in Ontario, Canada, Haim broke into acting in the 1980s on Canadian TV show The Edison Twins, before making his film debut opposite Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. in 1984's Firstborn.
He appeared opposite Point Break actor Gary Busey as a paraplegic boy in the big screen version of Stephen King's Silver Bullet, before shooting to international stardom as the lead in 1986's Lucas - alongside Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder.
Haim went on to film eight hit movies with his child star namesake Corey Feldman, including The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Watchers and Dream A Little Dream, leading the actors to be dubbed 'The Two Coreys'.
Haim was awarded two Young Artist Awards during the 1980s - Exceptional Young Actor in TV show A Time to Live in 1985, and Best Young Actor in 1989, which he shared with Feldman for their parts in License to Drive.
But as rumours of a serious drug problem began to surface in the 1990s, his career took a dip with a string of straight-to-video movies including Blown Away and National Lampoon's Last Resort.
In 1993, he was charged for pulling out a fake handgun during a bust-up with his business manager. The charges were later reduced from felony to misdemeanour.
In 1996 he was sued for $375,000 (£250,000) after pulling out of film Paradise Bar because of his drug problem, which he had reportedly failed to mention on his insurance form. With his financial problems spiralling out of control, Haim filed for bankruptcy in 1997.
The actor reportedly checked himself into rehab 15 times in a bid to battle his drug demons, and in 2001 was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California after reportedly suffering a drug-induced stroke.
But in 2004 he moved back to his native Toronto and appeared to have overcome his problems.
In recent years, Haim attempted to resurrect his career, filming reality show The Two Coreys with Feldman in 2007, and in 2008 he shot minor scenes for Lost Boys: The Tribe, reprising his 1987 role.
The two actors' screen reunion was short-lived - Feldman, who has also struggled with drug problems, reportedly refused to continue working and communicating with Haim until he beat his addiction.
At the time of his death, Haim had signed up to appear in a number of productions, which were slated for release later this year, including The Science of Cool opposite Mischa Barton, The Throwaways alongside pop star-turned-actor Luke Goss, and action thriller The Dead Sea.
Haim was briefly engaged to Nicole Eggert, Holly Fields, and Cindi Guyer, and has previously dated Victoria Beckham and Alyssa Milano, but it is unknown if he was in a relationship at the time of his death.

Corey Haim's career was vastly overshadowed by his personal life over the last few years, but even with that in mind, today's bit of devastating news doesn't come any easier. At 38 years old Corey Haim has died.
According to USA Today Haim passed away early this morning - the result of an accidental overdose - at his Oakwood apartment in Burbank, CA. He was pronounced dead at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center.
At just thirty-eight years, this is a tragic loss. Haim's genre contributions were both numerous and memorable. Whether he was battling a vicious werewolf (Silver Bullet) or government mutations (Watchers), the actor always brought plenty of charm and likability to the characters he played. Of course, we'll never forget him as Sam in the 1987 classic The Lost Boys - a role he might've reprised in greater capacity in a future sequel.

It’s that time of year again, kids. Dread Central’s 2010 Horror at the Oscars coverage. Horror was indeed present this year and in black-tie. While Roger Corman and Lauren Bacall were honored a few months back at the Governor’s Award Ceremony, it was an unexpected delight to see Corman, recipient of the lifetime achievement Oscar, enjoy a standing ovation on national television.
I was, however, very disappointed that neither of them were allowed to speak. Roger Corman’s contributions to modern cinema are too vast for him to just stand up and wave. James Cameron was one of many Corman acolytes present, and his nomination speaks to Corman’s tremendous legacy. On the Terminator DVD Cameron mentions, "I trained at the Roger Corman Film School.” Jonathan Demme, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, among many others, were also former students.
The terror continued with a spoof of Paranormal Activity...

When two genetically altered animals escape from Banodyne Labs (a discreet experimental facility), the Government is forced to act with extreme desperation, as these two elusive specimens are extremely valuable, intelligent and of course, dangerous. Of the two specimens fortunate to escape, one truly is extremely dangerous. This vile creature has become labeled The Outsider. While the other fugitive, an extremely sharp Golden Retriever acts as The Outsiders polar opposite. A calm, loving, compassionate canine with enough smarts to completely destroy every contestant on Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader, Einstein seeks only one thing: freedom. Freedom from the laboratories, freedom from a life of forced experimentation, and most significant, freedom from The Outsider, who has clearly decided that the death of Einstein is a priority that trumps all others.
Fortunately for Einstein our lovable and intuitive victim, Travis Cornell and Nora Devon, by some strange twist of fate are all three brought together.

Our second stab at the Oscars contains make-up effects and score (read part 1 here). The make-up effects, followed by the visual effects and technical awards, remain my favorite parts of the show; here you got to see your heroes: Rick Baker, Howard Berger, Chris Walas or Rob Bottin in the audience. Even the great Stan Winston could have been out there, back in the day. Though best known for his “visual effects” wins—he brought home an Oscar for best make-up in 1991 for Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Here genre fans can rejoice, Greg Cannom brought home the gold, again, for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Cannom, a genre elder, worked alongside (just to name a few) Fincher, Coppola, Landis, Dante, Blatty, and Cohen creating all sorts of character and creature make-ups.
