The movie was sold and funded based on the title alone.
The film was condemned as "indecent" on the floor of the U.S. Senate by North Carolina Republican Sen. Jesse Helms in 1992.
Elizabeth Kaitan said her car broke down and a friend gave her a ride, but had to drop off equipment at a production studio first. There, one of the producers of this movie saw her and asked her to audition. She declined when she heard the title. He ran into her again in a restaurant a few days later and asked her again. She read part of the script and thought it was "cute," so she auditioned. They cast her in the second lead role but moved her into the lead role after they fired Ginger Lynn, who wasn't fitting the role.
The music at the start of the film is nearly identical to the Klingon theme from the beginning of Star Trek The Motion Picture.
