It’s long been a running gag that Sean Bean tends to end up dead in films. At this point, he’s essentially the live action equivalent of Kenny from South Park. We don’t think he’s doing himself any favours by signing up to post-apocalyptic action pic Scorched Earth, but at least he will be starring in it, which ups his survival chances considerably.Bobby Mort and Kevin Leeson have penned the screenplay, which finds Earth a ravaged wasteland after a massive environmental disaster does a number on both the world and the population, with billions left dead. Bean is on to play Atticus Gage, a bounty hunter hired to track down the world’s most wanted criminal for a hefty fee.Brad Turner, who has worked as a director on shows such as Prison Break, 24, and Homeland, is making his first big screen effort since 1987’s Goofballs.

To dispense with the funny-but-absurdly-obvious joke right off the bat: Maybe he’ll actually live to the end of this one!
So. Today, THR have let us know that Sean Bean, for what feels like his only onscreen role in years, will star in Scorched Earth, a post-apocalyptic thriller — the sort of subgenre which is almost naturally revealed by the title itself — for Brad Turner. The latter will be directing (what might be) his only theatrical feature since 1987′s Goofballs, working from a screenplay be Kevin Leeson and Bobby Mort wherein an environmental catastrophe leaves billions dead and Earth in ruins. Living amidst all this is Bean‘s character, “Atticus Gage, a bounty hunter, who receives the bounty of a lifetime to track the world’s most wanted criminal in these devastated badlands.”
Well, yes, I’d like to see him doing that in a film. Not the strongest or most comprehensive reaction,...
