1990 was a peak year for Van Damage. The Muscles from Brussels was on the way to the big time after Bloodsport and Kickboxer (which made our list of the Best Fighting Movies) proved to be huge moneymakers at the box office. But, Jean-Claude Van Damme was different from some of his contemporaries because he was a hearthrob and a prime butt-kicker. His 1990 movie Lionheart was bought for distribution by Universal, paving the way to his breaking into mainstream studio work. But, before he could jump on that gravy train, he had one more movie left to make on his Cannon movie deal – but ironically, the company itself would not release the film theatrically due to its waning fortunes, with this being Van Damme’s first major studio release after MGM opted to distribute it. The movie? Death Warrant!

Everyone has to start somewhere and exactly where that place may be is often of pretty dubious quality or (at the very least) rather surprising for some of today’s biggest names in the film industry. For example, we all know Jennifer Aniston had her start with Leprechaun, a film she’d probably rather forget (although we think it’s a lot of fun). Now, with current streaming services pulling all kinds of older films and television shows into their libraries, fans can get the chance to see some of those questionable choices that most likely were made to pay the bills. Here are a few of our favorites:
Elisabeth Moss in Surburban Commando (1991)
While not her very first credit, this is the Mad Men & Handmaid’s Tale star’s first feature film and it’s a doozy. For anyone not familiar with it, it’s an action comedy starring...

Dread Central's been covering indie filmmaker Sonny Fernandez's Diy projects almost as long as we've been in business, and he's back with a new trailer and stills from his latest, Lake Villa Vamps.
This particular film is noteworthy as it marks Sonny and the gang at Down Twisted Studios' ninth production and first animated feature. It follows a group of bloodthirsty, murderous vampires as they are tasked to save the world from the mighty Brethren, a werewolf empire intent on taking over.
Full of blood, action, drama, and romance, Lake Villa Vamps was written and completely animated by Dt founder Sonny Fernandez and has all the makings of the usual Down Twisted film. It promises to take viewers places they've never gone before, including a whole new world.
With voice work from Dt veterans Cody Tergesen, Sam Ova, and Edgardo Osorio and introducing a whole new slew of talent including Matthew Brooks,...

Sonny Fernandez, the low (or should I say no?) budget auteur behind a slate of indie films such as The New Girls, Bleed and The Aborted doesn't have top of the line performances or production values in the horror films that he has been producing. However, what his films have that help make up for that is a lot of spirit, heart and, most importantly, originality. Sonny Fernandez has been taking chances with each and every single film he has made to date. He thinks outside of the box and doesn't compromise his vision to fit into someone else's vision. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of Sam Raimi when he started out with The Evil Dead. Can this passionate, no budget horror director score a breakout with his brand of off beat horror films that deliver something unique and distinctive? Only time will tell, but Sonny Fernandez...

Finally! After just 6 (six) years Bleed finally makes its way to DVD. The film faced all kinds of challenges from bankrupt distributors to shady dealings, but that didn't stop no budget horror auteur Sonny Fernandez's determination to see that Bleed get a proper release and now it has!
A mouth screams into the dark. A girl sits on a floor covered in blood. A baby cries out in the dark.
Six teenagers awake from horrible nightmares, get dressed and walk out into the dead of night. They meet up confused and alone on a desolate street corner. With no idea how they got there, or any memory of having gotten out of bed they decide to just head back home. On their way however, they quickly realize that there are things loose in the town; things with horns and tails, ghost like apparitions that appear before their eyes and...
