At the conclusion of the first trial the judge tells the jury that there will be a re-trial. But whether to put the prisoner on trial a second time is a decision for the prosecution, not the judge.
At one point the police inspector refers to the judge as 'His Honour'. But the judge's robes show that he is a High Court Judge who would be referred to as 'His Lordship.'
