The show was the center of a German urban legend that was quite popular during the early days of the internet. It claimed that the reason why the TV channel Tele 5 shut down in 1992, was that after it aired it during its Saturday morning kids block, parent groups were so enraged over the horror elements and violent scenes in it that the channel got its broadcasting license revoked. Of course that wasn't the truth.
Reports of the attacks of Inhumanoids were done by the character Hector Ramirez, a news reporter who was bent on proving that G.I. Joe was government pork in G.I. Joe (1985).
Hasbro decided to end the toy line during the first season, but allowed the show to continue as long as commercials for their other properties could be shown. This gave the writers much more liberty to create original stories.
