Dan Cain : [meeting for the first time] So West, what kind of medicine are you involved in?
Herbert West : Death.

Herbert West : [Hits Dr. Hill over the head from behind, with a shovel. Then, while decapitating him by driving the blade of the shovel through his neck:] Plagiarist!

Dr. Carl Hill : [Dr. Hill's head has just *awakened*] Wesssssssssst...
Herbert West : Yes, Doctor, it's Herbert West. What are you thinking? How do you feel?
Dr. Carl Hill : [wheezing] Youuuuuuuuuu...
Herbert West : [eagerly taking notes] "You..."
Dr. Carl Hill : Bassssstaaaaaarrrrrd!

Herbert West : Don't expect it to tango; it has a broken back.

Dan Cain : Herbert you're insane! Now what happened here?
Herbert West : I had to kill him!
Dan Cain : What? He's dead?
Herbert West : [reluctantly] Not anymore.
Dan Cain : Herbert!
[grabbing Herbert and shaking him]
Dan Cain : This has got to stop!

Dan Cain : He's dead?
Herbert West : Not anymore.

Dan Cain : [about the cat] He couldn't have been dead!
Herbert West : Do you agree that he's dead now?
[Picks up cat's body and drops it onto table]

Herbert West : I know your work, Dr. Hill. Quite well. Your theory on the location of the will in the brain is... interesting. Though derivative of Dr. Gruber's research in the early 70s. So derivative in fact in Europe it's considered plagiarized.

Herbert West : [Struggling to lift Dr. Halsey's body onto a table] Come on! Help me get him up.
Dan Cain : Is he dead?
Herbert West : Of course! Will you give me a hand here? Now, he interrupted an important experiment in progress. Granted, it was an accident. But this is the freshest body that we could come across save of killing one ourselves, and every moment that we spend talking about it costs us results! Now will you give me a hand? Dan, we can bring him back to life.
Dan Cain : [Hesitating, overwhelmed] Okay.

Herbert West : [reading off toe tags in the morgue] Burn victim.
Herbert West : Here's your meatball.
Herbert West : Shotgun wound to the head
Dan Cain : Oh god he's rotten.
Herbert West : [amused] Malpractice.

Herbert West : [Looking at the basement] Oh, yes. Yes. I think this will be just fine. I have my things outside, shall I move in now?
Megan Halsey : [Turns to Dan] Uh, look, I have to go. I think you and Mr. West have a lot to discuss, before you decide anything.
Herbert West : Oh, I've decided.
Dan Cain : Well, I'd like
[Herbert cuts in]
Herbert West : You know, you'll never even know that i'm here.
Megan Halsey : Dan.
Herbert West : Except of course on the first of the month.
Megan Halsey : Mr. West?
Megan Halsey : Miss Halsey?
Megan Halsey : You didn't say why you left Switzerland.
Herbert West : Uh, there was no more I could learn there. Do we have a deal?
Dan Cain : Done.

Herbert West : [Hits the corpse] He failed! Not I!

Dr. Carl Hill : Yes, we are both scientists. Let us get to the point. I want your discovery. Whatever it is that gives the dead the appearance of life.
Herbert West : No, it is not the appearance of life, it is life. This is not magic, as you say, I am a scientist.
