Sex & Nudity

  • Contains very mild references to sex. Such references may include allusions to couples having "slept together", and adolescent characters may be asked if they have been "safe" or "used protection". Couples may occasionally kiss passionately and/or be seen in bed together, with men usually depicted shirtless and women in a negligee. Characters often have affairs and cheat on one another, whether maritally or prior to a marriage taking place.
  • Any nudity is implied or strategically obscured, however, some older episodes may contain brief moments of very mild rear nudity. Younger characters are occasionally depicted in various states of undress, whether they are depicted in bed together, or in their swimsuits or underwear.
  • Some episodes have recurring storylines dealing with issues such as incest and relationships between individuals with a significant age difference.

Violence & Gore

  • In Neighbours: Endgame (March 2020) A character hits another on the head with a rock, twice. We see a huge gash on his forehead moments later. A character is shot and killed by an arrow. (Not so much blood) A character pushes another inside a mineshaft and she is hurt. Another gets bitten by a snake. Also, another one gets blown up in a car. (We only see the outside of the car being blown up)
  • Most violence is implied or portrayed in such a manner that the impact is depicted off-screen. When shootings occur, characters are generally shot off-screen and/or their upper bodies are depicted as they are shot. Limited blood may be visible in the aftermath of the shooting.
  • Hand-to-hand altercations do not depict much in the way of detail, and punches are generally depicted in an unrealistic fashion. Bruises and other injuries may be depicted in limited detail in subsequent scenes.
  • Characters are occasionally threatened by others, and there are infrequent cliffhanger episodes in which a character's life is in mortal danger, usually resulting in the death of a major character.
  • Also contains some medical procedures, with no surgical detail (defibrillators are often used in such scenes).
  • Issues concerning sexual violence are only very discreetly implied, and terms such as "rape" are not used.

Profanity

  • In Neighbours Endgame: Finn Kelly (Rob Mills) says "all of your plans went to sh*t". As a PG rated show, this is acceptable. He says it very fast and not clearly and would fly over most people's head.
  • Contains only infrequent very mild coarse language. Such language may include wordplay or partially obscured language (such as "sh-"). Older episodes would contain limited use of words such as "bitch", however, this no longer seems to be the case with more recent episodes.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Contains frequent depictions of casual alcohol consumption and drunkenness. Tobacco use was common during the earlier years of the series, however, its use is only very rarely depicted in recent episodes, if at all.
  • References to the use or cultivation of illicit substances is only very discreetly implied.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Contains frequent adult themes that may confuse, upset or require further explanation to young children. Such themes include (and are not limited to) bereavement, rebellion toward one's parents, teenage sexuality, discrimination, revenge, murder, pregnancy, surrogacy, abortion and religious dilemmas.
