Jack Palance kisses mice. Teri Hatcher plays drums. Just two of the many remarkable things we've discovered in Tango & Cash...
In this occasional series of 'remarkable things' articles, we've mostly focused exclusively on movies that were critical or financial flops. Previous entries have included Jaws: The Revenge, Battlefield Earth and RoboCop 3, which all suffered in both critics' reviews and at the box office.
This time, our choice isn't a notorious flop at all - it's Tango & Cash, a film which actually made a few million dollars more than it cost to make. At this stage in Sylvester Stallone's career, which featured the critical and financial nightmares Rocky V, Oscar and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, Tango & Cash was a comparative blockbuster.
In terms of critical reception, though, Tango & Cash fared less well. It was nominated for three Razzies (though won precisely none) and reviews...

With a retrospective of his films set to begin at London’s Barbican Centre, we caught up with director Andrei Konchalovsky for a brief chat about movie making…
There are few directors who can claim to have worked with such talents as Akira Kurosawa, Andrei Tarkovsky and Sylvester Stallone, but Russian filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky has done just that. In a career that has spanned over 45 years, he directed critically acclaimed dramas such as First Teacher and Uncle Vanya in the 60s and 70s, before moving to the Us in the 80s to helm Maria's Lovers, Runaway Train and Tango And Cash.
With a retrospective of some of Konchalovsky's Russian movies appearing at the Barbican this week, we sat down with the director for a brief discussion about filmmaking and the Hollywood film industry...

Freestyle Releasing, in association with Cinemarket Films, has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to Andrei Konchalovsky's "The Nutcracker in 3D." The film will open Nov. 24.
Elle Fanning, Nathan Lane and John Turturro star in the new interpretation of the story that inspired Tchaikovsky's music for the classic ballet.
The story centers on 9-year-old Mary (Fanning), who is celebrating Christmas in Vienna and receives an enchanted nutcracker as a gift from her Uncle Albert (Lane). The nutcracker comes to life and takes Mary into his magical world of fairies, sugarplums and other toys. Ultimately, Mary must face off against the Rat King (Turturro) to save the Nutcracker and his kingdom.
To augment the original Tchaikovsky score, "The Lion King" lyricist Tim Rice has written eight new songs for the film, which was shot on location in Budapest, Hungary.
