Sex & Nudity

  • Locker room scene where the buttocks and pubic hair of a few men are seen briefly.
  • Men talk of women as objects. One d**k. Ariel is very crazy, mentioned as having been kissed a lot and admits to relations with men.
  • One of the boys makes a masturbating motion with his hand.

Violence & Gore

  • A brick is thrown through a house window, scaring two small children and injuring one. Minor blood is visible.
  • Some mild violence throughout. The worst scenes are where certain men abuse, and harm women. The most bloody scenes are those of where people get into fights, one in particular where a man get punched in the nose and it has a lot of blood around it.
  • Ariel is crazy endangers herself in front of a train. Many tension, including a near car crash and a tractor accident.
  • A woman punches a man in the face resulting in a bloody nose.
  • Two separate fights, including one fistfight and one bar fight. Willard (Christopher Penn) receives a very bloody nose during one while the other includes several severe hits.
  • One intense scene in which Ariel (Lori Singer) is hit several times by her ex-boyfriend after she hit him and his truck. She is shown with a bloodied mouth and a black eye.

Profanity

  • Towards the end of the movie there is a fight Godd**n is said a few times
  • H*ll is said at least seven times.
  • D*mn is said several times.
  • Sh*t is said many times throughout.
  • *ss and *sshole are said several times.
  • Sh*t is said 16 times, 1 as "sh*tless".
  • "Son of a b***h" is said at least three times.
  • At least 16 uses of shit 1 paired with bull 1 paired with less 1 use of crap.
  • Swear words are fairy mild with "hell", "damn", "ass/asses" and "crap". But the others has some more moderate profanity like "son of a bitch", "asshole" and "goddamn". Although the strong word "shit" is said several times, but one each pair uses of "bull(shit)" and "(shit)less".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main character, high schooler Ren, smokes cigarettes often and during several scenes.
  • There is some use of alcohol and cigarettes but its all quite mild.
  • Chuck is seen smoking a joint before the tractor race and us warned not to drive impaired.
  • Teenager Ren (Kevin Bacon) is shown blowing off his frustration by smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer.
  • The four main characters, Ariel, Ren, Willard and Rusty (Lori Singer, Kevin Bacon, Christopher Penn and Sarah Jessica Parker), go to a bar and drink alcohol. Willard, particularly, drinks many beers and is shown smoking a cigarette.
  • Another student offers Ren a joint as a "free sample" and offers to sell him more. Ren flushes it down a toilet to avoid a teacher's questions.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Ariel stands in front of a fast moving train and is knocked out of its path by another person at the last moment.
  • There are several scenes where men abuse women, which can be hard to watch.
  • Willard says, "A bunch of kids got killed on a car wreck" near the start
  • This film would be rated PG-13 if released today for language, brief violence and nudity.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a chicken fight with tractors where the two high schoolers got dangerously close to one another. Could be intense for some.
