- TriviaAfter Margot Kidder expressed her disgust about the firing of Richard Donner to producers Alexander Salkind and Ilya Salkind, her role was cut to 12 lines and less than five minutes of screen time. In the film's 2006 DVD commentary, Ilya Salkind says there was little need for Lois Lane in this movie because her relationship with Superman ended at the end of Superman II (1980).
- GoofsSet in America, yet the spellings of defence, colour, and unauthorised reveal that it was filmed elsewhere.

Ross Webster: I ask you to kill Superman, and you're telling me you couldn't even do that one, simple thing.
- Alternate versionsBroadcast version uses separate title sequence similar to original Superman - The Movie titles, with adapted John Williams theme. Theatrical and home video versions had difficult-to-read titles over opening slapstick sequence.

A Disappointment
I found this movie somewhat entertaining. It had some positive and negative aspects to it. The story really didn't seem to be anywhere near the same as the previous two movies. Christopher Reeve gave a fairly strong performance in this movie as he did in the other two movies. Unfortunately Lex Luthor (Hackman) was replaced by a character that is very similar to him. It also had a computer genius (Pryor, his performance was fairly humorous which sometimes worked and sometimes didn't). Unfortunately Lois Lane (Kidder)is barely in it do to arguments over the director switch in the second movie which was similar to the reason that Hackman left. She was replaced by Clarks first love Lana Lang (O'Toole). The movie also has its high points when superman has to face his evil alter ego. The special effects were still on par with the other movies. As long as you don't have high expectations for this movie you are most likely going to enjoy it.
