The eight-part series is the first to emerge from Cathay Film Company, a recent production venture launched by Singapore-based industry veteran Meileen Choo.

These, so-called coolies were often treated as slaves, but some integrated into Cuban society and joined the country’s fight for independence from Spain. Veteran Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu is of the opinion that while big music labels can play a vital role in playback singing, their support is no longer all-important in the longer run.
Talking to Ians, Kumar Sanu says, "A music label's brand name can take you to a certain point of success, but to maintain that stability you need talent. If any singer has that kind of stability, then it doesn't matter if you have a label or not."
He goes on to give the example of content creators: "Many YouTubers are superhit and no label is supporting them. I think the label is required when you sing in films because they decide the money aspect. In the end talent is what works. Whoever has the talent will shine bright and anyone who doesn't have talent won't be able to do anything even if a big label is supporting them.

Rajpal Yadav, an Nsd pass out, is popular for his rib-tickling brand of comedy. Oneliners in numerous hits and memorable funny characters such as the eccentric Chhota Pandit in Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the not-so-scary Chhota Don in Partner and the overly inquisitive Laxman in Waqt: The Race Against Time are among many that come to mind when you think of the talented actor. Jawani Jaaneman
Starring Saif Ali Khan, Alaya F, Tabu, Kubra Sait
Directed by Nitin Kakkar
Going into it, expecting one more film showcasing Saif Ali Khan’s roguish charms, you come away surprised at the walloping punch that this punch-drunk celebration of a midlife crisis brings to the table.
First things first. Jawani Jaaneman is a whole lot of fun. It’s like a casually but immaculately cut suit designed to fit and flatter the wearer without looking over-tailored. It’s a story that opens its heart to human flaws, an over-sexualized 40-plus Londoner who thinks life is a bed of….well, just a bed where you ‘sleep’ (actually not a wink) your way through as many women as humanly possible.
Straightaway, let’s just say Saif Ali Khan is a delightfully self-deprecatory actor. He is never afraid to look ridiculous on screen. If you’ve seen him in that...

It has happened so often that key themes, plots or storylines of a successful movie has been suitably incorporated in subsequent movies to mirror the box office performance of the first one. What is even more intriguing is the repeat success of the above method on many occasions attaining the status of a formula at times.
Back in the 70s, Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s “angry young man” image in the initial days was started by the super-hit run of Zanjeer (1973) which ran all the way till vigilante film Shahenshah in 1988. The action blended with drama in movies in the 1970s had ‘deteriorated’ to violence in late 1980s thus keeping the family audience away from theaters at the height of home video and film piracy. This is evident from the box office results of that era which had peaked at 15 crores (Sholay) in 1975 itself but remained stagnant for the coming two...

We all know that revenue generated from liquor taxation garners the government a hefty chunk. However, the Bihar government recently issued a ban on liquor in the state. Reacting to the same, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor took to twitter talking about the ban while posting an image from the days gone by saying, "Practising drinking since Coolie days. Waise-Smoking and Drinking is hazardous. People Please abstain from it. Tx!"
Later commenting on the ban, the actor added, "Bihar you will encourage bootlegging and illicit liquor. Prohibition has failed worldwide. Wake up! You will also lose ?3000 Crs revenue loss." Further directing his perspective towards the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, the actor added, "10 years imprisonment for alcohol-5 years for illegal possession of Arms? Wah Nitesh! The last couple of days in Bollywood have only been about shocks and mega shocks. While on one hand, it was Aamir Khan who 'shocked' everyone with his 'by-now-controversial' statement on intolerance, on the other hand, it was the legendary Amitabh Bachchan who shocked everyone by stating (read 'confessing') that he was a patient of 'Hepatitis B' and had almost lost 75 percent of his liver due to late diagnosis of the disease. Bachchan made this startling revelation at the recently held 'Hepatitis B' media awareness campaign. For the uninitiated, Amitabh Bachchan is the Unicef ambassador for 'Hepatitis B' awareness programme. Additionally, he also spoke about the same in his blog, wherein he wrote the following "Almost 60 collective bottles of blood was pumped into me during my accident in 'Coolie' .. one infusion was carrying the dreaded virus Australian antigen Hep B .. it remained in my body and silently ate...

One of the best actresses in Indian cinema, Tabu has given outstanding performances in films in the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali and Hindi film industries. One of the qualities that makes her such a good actress is that you never feel as if she is acting. Amitabh Bachchan's fiction debut on television with the series Yudh just got a lot more dangerous. Apparently, the actor has defied medical orders to perform some forbidden stunts with a body rig.
It's been 30 years since the Big B wore a body rig for any of his stunts in a film. After the accident on the sets of Coolie in 1982 and the beating that his body took, the mega-star was forbidden from wearing the heavy body rigs required for cinematic stunts.
Until now. For the serial Yudh that he is doing, Big B agreed to wear a body rig for a very intricate stunt. Says a source from the set, "It was an important scene where Bachchan Saab's character Yudhishthir Sikarwar had to confront an important crisis in his life. The director Ribhu Dasgputa had been told by Big B's team that he wouldn't be wearing the body rig.

Sharib Hashmi first caught my eye in Jab Tak Hai Jaan as Shah Rukh Khan’s roommate, and I thought this was an actor we would see again. And here he is in a National Award winning film. Sharib stars in Nitin Kakkar’s Filmistaan, which won the National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film in 2012. Though showcased at film festivals around the world, it has taken a while for this critically acclaimed film to get to theaters, but now audiences will finally get to experience the magic of Filmistaan when it releases on June 6th.
Sharib plays the starring role of Sunny Arora, a wannabe actor and assistant director who, more than anything, wants to be a hero in a Bollywood film. Through a series of misadventures, including a kidnapping to Pakistan, Sunny finds himself staying with another Bollywood fanatic, Aftaab. What happens next shows how Bollywood can bring people together.

Accidents on location can be a crippling blow to film projects. The most oft-quoted example is that of the Big B who had a near-fatal accident on the sets Manmohan Desai's Coolie.
In comparison, Amit Sadh's fractured leg may seem trivial. However it has put Subhash Kapoor's new project Guddu Rangeela featuring Amit Sadh and Arshad Warsi in the title roles, behind schedule by a month.

I have to be strong because this accident has messed up the schedule of my film. Now the doctors tell me that the first two weeks after the fracture will be very bad."

Masala brilliance thy name is personified by Manmohan Desai. Masala filmmaking is that secret ingredient to nearly every film in this wide and bountiful Hindi film industry. Of course, filmmakers disguise these elements in the social message films, the love stories, the thrillers, and countless other genre-pictures. If we want something to break up the tension of love scene, add some dishoom-dishoom, or if you want to cool that down, throw in some smart comedy. The ability to freely mix genres and tropes was expertly done in the juggernaut Amar, Akbar, Anthony (Aaa). The late 70s were the beginnings of the Amitabh Bachchan industry and Amar Akbar Anthony marked the partnership between Bachchan and Desai.

New Delhi, Dec 6: The number 786, revered in Islamic culture, has found prominence in Bollywood over and over again -- remember Amitabh Bachchan's 'billa No.786' in "Coolie" and Shah Rukh Khan's 'qaidi No.786' in "Veer-Zaara". It returns to the screen with Akshay Kumar's "Khiladi 786".
The number is said to be the total value of the letters 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' (in the name of Allah, the compassionate, the merciful), according to one Arabic system of numerology. In Bollywood, quick to pick on what strikes an emotive note with superstitious viewers, 786 has been used either as a connotation for a character's invincibility or to.
