Sex & Nudity

  • There is a brief sex-related use of "turned on".
  • When the family sees the leg lamp, Ralphie touches it suggestively.
  • A man has a lamp stand that is shaped in the form of a woman's leg wearing a fishnet legging and a high heel, and the movie's narrator references it as..."electric sex gleaming in the window."
  • There are some mild references throughout the movie.

Violence & Gore

  • A boy is shown with a black eye after a playground run-in with two bullies.
  • There's a scene where a boy is fighting another boy for bullying him. The fight is intense, and the boy is seen his nosebleed. Moderate blood.
  • When Mrs. Parker talks with Mrs. Schwartz over the phone to identify the latter's son as the source of where Ralphie picked up the F-word, the woman from the other end of the phone is heard spanking her son - presumably with the receiver.
  • Ralphie daydreams about himself killing bad guys with a BB gun by shooting them in the butt.
  • In some scenes boys get into fights. In one scene 2 boys and the main charecter get into a severe fight with pushing and punching and shows a nose bleeding.
  • A dog's ear is caught in a door.
  • A cooked duck is served for dinner near the end, and its head is chopped off.

Profanity

  • 4 uses of "Oh my God"
  • Very mild profanity through out the film. And nothing too strong.
  • Ralphie says son of a bitch.
  • In a two-minute sequence, "the big mother of all swear words: F dash dash dash" is dwelt upon. (The main character says "Oh fudgeeeeeeeeeeeeee." on screen, but the narrator says that he really says the f word.)
  • The father and a few boys say "hell", "son of a bitch", "damn", and "smart ass". The father does a lot worse cursing, and the fact that he does so is a significant plot point. It should be noted that most of his cursing is heard as nonsense.
  • A boy shouts numerous Yosemite Sam-like obscenities while beating up a bully.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The parents have a glass of wine in one scene. The father offers some to his son but his mother says he can't have any.
  • One brief moment when the boy spits (tobacco, presumably) during a western daydream.
  • Delivery man is smoking a cigar.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A young boy anxiously waits in a closet because he thinks his brother will be severely punished.
  • A woman puts a bar of soap in her son's mouth as punishment for using profanity. The boy dreams of becoming blind, fearing the possible negative consequences of having soap in his mouth.
  • Santa is mean to the kids, he pushes a kid down a slide with his shoe.
  • A dream sequence features the adults in the child protagonist's life mocking him and chanting, "You'll shoot your eye out." The boy's teacher is dressed as a witch.
  • There are two bullies who torment the main character, his brother and friends (twisting their arms, throwing snowballs, shoving etc)
