- Gennarino Laganà is a poor Sicilian, who is busy with humble jobs to support his family, while his parents push him to seek his fortune in the North. Gennarino would never leave his beloved island if he hadn't run into a love affair with Donna Egeria, wife of the mafia boss Don Mimi. To escape a sure vengeance, he gets on a freight train. In a dream, San Totino appears to him, who promises him protection in exchange for a regulated life. Thus he arrives in Milan, where he meets Armida, a street woman, who takes him to her house, makes him her protector and lover. But San Totino still appears to Gennarino and reproaches him for his condition of being maintained: he has to work and Armida has to change his life. In the meantime Don Mimi tracks down Gennarino, takes revenge by gorging him on a bad ice cream, and then hires him into his service: he will have to deliver some mysterious red boxes. Meanwhile Gennarino has met a skinny, deaf and dumb flower girl, with the face of an angel: Clarabelle. He falls madly in love with her and wants her to be cured and healed. In the meantime Armida has returned to her Sicily to rebuild a normal life. Even Gennarino, after having delivered several empty or nearly empty packages, will leave with a red box full of explosives to blow up the grandstand of the Adriatic Stadium in Pescara, where there are numerous political personalities. It is Don Mimi who organized the plot. While Gennarino unconsciously awaits the fatal hour, he hears the song of a woman he knows: it is Armida, by now an honest ice cream maker. Their meeting is interrupted by the appearance of Don Mimì and Clarabella, full of health, never been deaf or dumb.
