Every school has that certain teacher who is a bully, heartless and at times sadistic. Everyone must take their class, but no one finishes the course unscathed. Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti) of Alexander Payne’s acclaimed comedy-drama “The Holdovers” is one such instructor. Set in 1970, “The Holdovers” revolves around the by-the-books classics professor teaching at the same New England boarding school he had attended. Hunham is hated by his students, as well as his fellow teachers. And he’s also in hot water, after he failed one of the school’s largest donor’s son in his class. During the Christmas break, he is forced to supervise the “holdovers — -the students who for various reasons must stay on campus. He ends up sharing the holidays with one troubled student (Dominic Sessa) whose mother recently remarried; and the cafeteria administrator (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) grieving her only son’s death in the Vietnam War.

Hot on the heels of her Denim & Rhinestones tour, Underwood released her surprise single “Out of That Truck” — the first ever truck-themed song released by the chart-topping country artist. Here’s what Underwood said about the original, which she co-produced and co-wrote.

Her “Silverado silhouette” is still shotgun riding in your head. The Demin & Rhinestones artist is back with a surprise release — Underwood’s single “Out of That Truck,” released on March 10, 2023.
As described by Underwood herself, “Out of That Truck” is about the getting over a failed romance. That becomes more difficult because of the physical reminders throughout the narrator’s life — like a truck.
“When you’re runnin’ around in that stick shift Chevy,” the chorus states. “I...

Carrie Underwood is credited as a performer, co-writer, and even co-producer on her 2022 album Denim & Rhinestones. However, she didn’t always have a role in writing and producing originals. Here’s what she said about making this collection sound like herself.

Underwood currently writes most of her own songs. However, these releases are typically created with a co-writer. “Hate My Heart” was co-written by Hillary Lindsey, Michael Hardy, David Garcia, and Underwood.
One of her most popular songs, “Jesus Take the Wheel,” was written by Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, and Gordie Sampson. One of her earliest hits, “Before He Cheats,” was written by Kara DioGuardi, Chris Tompkins, and Josh Kear.

For this month’s installment of “TV Terrors” we revisit “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters,“ the fondly remembered Nickelodeon animated series that aired from 1994 through 1997.
Every Nickelodeon fanatic has their period where they thought the network really hit their stride. For me, 1994 was their real peak of pure kids entertainment. It was a time where they’d tapped into a wonderful momentum with programming blocks like Saturday Night’s Snick, weekday morning’s Nick Jr., and excellent series like “Rugrats,” “All That,” “Legends of the Hidden Temple,” “The Secret World of Alex Mack,” and a whole lot more.
It was also the year that “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” premiered.
Debuting officially on October 30th, 1994, the program was another of the many Klasky-Csupo produced animated shows that had dominated the airwaves for most of the Nickelodeon golden age. Breaking in to their tendency to spotlight the lesser explored corners of our society, “Aaahh!!! Real...

It was announced today that acclaimed horror author Peter Straub passed away, an undeniable creative force who completely changed what was possible in the landscape of dark fantasy and horror fiction. Straub wrote with such beautiful world-building detail and rich prose that he often elevated the simplest concepts into full-fledged epics, which is precisely why the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King, collaborated with him on their collaborative masterpiece, "The Talisman."
While King has been the most adapted author of the modern era, Straub has only had two novels brought to life. In 1977, "The Haunting of Julia" was released inspired by his novel "Julia," but the film that should have had studios vying to gain the rights to any and all of Straub's works came in 1981 when Universal adapted his haunting novel "Ghost Story."
Straub published the novel in 1979, which became a national bestseller and helped cement Straub as one of the horror fiction greats.

I know every comic book publisher loves a ‘special’ issue, an ‘anniversary’ issue, or a ‘reached a big number’ issue, but at first glance a 144 page monster book for issue 1027 of Detective Comics seems a bit of a stretch. Longevity, sure, but we just had a whole raft of anniversary specials did we not? Then you realise. Detective Comics #27, back in 1939, was not only the very first appearance of Batman, but became the title that led to National Periodicals eventually becoming DC Comics. They liked the series so much they named a company after it. So, in comic book terms, Detective Comics #27 is probably the second most important published, beaten out only by Action Comics #1. DC, for probably both genuinely wanting to honour Detective Comics legacy and to squeeze that Batman cash cow just a little bit more, have thrown...

Billy Goldenberg, the Emmy-winning composer and songwriter, died Monday night at his home in New York City. He was 84.
Goldenberg wrote the themes for such 1970s TV series as “Kojak,” “Harry O” and “Rhoda,” composed the pilot scores for “Night Gallery” and “Columbo,” and won Emmys for the TV-movie “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” and miniseries “The Lives of Benjamin Franklin,” “King” and “Rage of Angels.”
He expanded his 1975 “Queen of the Stardust Ballroom” song score, with lyricists Marilyn and Alan Bergman, into the score of the 1978 Broadway musical “Ballroom,” directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett of “A Chorus Line” fame. It earned eight Tony nominations including Best Musical.
Reminiscing Wednesday about their collaboration on “Ballroom,” Alan Bergman told Variety: “Billy was one of the rare composers who was also a dramatist. Lots of people can write melodies, but you could tell Billy the situation, what the characters were feeling,...

“Baby Driver” director Edgar Wright is attached to direct, develop and executive produce a ghost story called “Stage 13” from “SNL” writer Simon Rich that Amblin Partners has acquired, the studio announced Wednesday.
The film is based on Rich’s own short story, and he will also adapt the screenplay. It’s the comedic story of a silent film actress who has haunted the soundstage Stage 13 for decades, only to meet a struggling director and team with him to make their mark on the world.
Rich will produce the film with Wright’s producing partner at Complete Fiction Nira Park, as will Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Amblin Partners’ president of production Jeb Brody and creative executive John Buderwitz will oversee for the studio.
