Sarcastical Pajares-Ozores movie with silly events, embarrassing situations and amusement enough
ma-cortes10 September 2022
Typical Esteso, Pajares movie with usual ingredients such as silly sexual and satirical messes, antics, mayhem, frolics , and a lot of naked girls . It deals with Felix Rebolledo : Fernando Esteso, he is a cocky pimp who owns a brothel. But he attempts to open a nude show, that's why he asks for support of the Mayor Don Emilio : Alfonso del Real and the Bishop : Juanito Navarro whom Felix bribes with continuous gifts and donations. However, things go wrong with the arrival of the bishop's strict nephew named Arcadio : Andres Pajares who left the seminary because he deemed too slight as well as extremely frivolous and now he works as a secretary for his uncle .As the chaste Arcadio tries to convince the wives of the powerful local husbands to refuse the opening of another place of corruption and vice. Then the pimp Felix attempts to blackmail Arcadio by setting up a bait to put in a thorny, erotic situation, shooting and tapping him while makes love with a prostitute : Jenny Llada.

Ordinary Esteso, Pajares movie directed by their fetish director, artisan Mariano Ozores and with its ups and downs. It displays the habitual toppings including extreme satire, excessive stereotypes , hilarious set pieces, ironical moments making another's weakness its satirical sense of humour. There is also a deep critical to moral hipocresy , religious repression, the upper classes and the dark businesses as political as industrial . Stars two sympathetic farceurs : Andres Pajares and Fernando Esteso, they are a fine pair of comical actors, usually playing a likable duo of unfortunate, roguish, swindlers as well as bungler drifters. However, here playing two opposite men, on the one hand, Esteso is a rogue pimp who exploits women, and the other hand Pajares is a repressed, chaste ex-seminarist. They often played a diverting couple in a lot of movies and achieved various hits in the 80s. As "Los Chulos" had success enough at the box office, but "Los Bingueros" was their biggest hit. The films they performed were funny, entertaining and with lots of fun. Humor is sometimes cheesy and gross-out with numerous naughty and picaresque situations such as sex jokes, jealousy, adultery, erotic scenes, and nudism in charge of ordinary "Destape" actresses, this time the beautiful actress Jenny Llada. So they had long years of partnership, enjoying a large boxoffice, including films as "Agitese antes de usarla, Los Liantes, El Currante, El Hijo del Cura, Los energeticos, Yo hice a Roque III, El hijo de Cura, El Soplagaitas , Pepito Piscinas , Que tia la CIA , Al Este del Oeste , El Recomendado , El cura ya tiene hijo, Todos al suelo" and many others, mostly directed by prolific craftman Mariano Ozores , and some of them performed only by Pajares or Esteso or appearing briefly as a guest star , but all made in similar style . Rating : 4.5/10 , only for Esteso and Pajares fans .

Blue movie typical of the period it was made on
dalton222 September 1999
This is a typical post-Franco's period's film. Once finished the long dictatorship full of censorship, Spain started in the late 70's and more in the early 80's to change. Many films reflected that spirit in their plots, and here is one example. Presented as a blue film, full of nude girls, men in their underwear and wicked dialogue lines, it is really a protest film. It protests against the archaism, against the Church full of prejudice and control over the society which reminds the old Inquisition. Note that the title of the film (Los chulos) can be translated as 'The pimps': The character Félix Rebolledo is a pimp, but he's not the only one.

Now let's have a look at the 'envelope' of the film. We can find the couple Esteso-Pajares, which appear in many Spanish films. Always funny and hilarious at times, they are the perfect duo for the light-hearted comedies they star in. Their exacerbated theatricality is the ideal ingredient for the comic atmosphere their films need. And now let's talk about the secondary cast: Alfonso del Real, María Isbert, Luis Barbero, Florinda Chico, Ricardo Merino and Juanito Navarro are all great actors, all of them charismatic, all of them prolific.

All in all, this isn't a great film, but it's entertaining. My rating is 6 out of 10.
