We first experienced the magic of Siddharth and Garima’s writing in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. The duo, along with Mr. Bhansali, brilliantly transformed the story of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet into an Indian context and the result was rave reviews for the writing and the stars.
For their next project they entered the world of a love story of a warrior – Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s epic Bajirao Mastani starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. For what is being called his magnus opus, Mr Bhansali went to Siddharth and Garima to paint beautiful pictures with their lyrics for three of the biggest songs, ‘Deewani Mastani’, ‘Pinga’ and ‘Mohe Rang Do Laal’.
I was granted the amazing privilege to interview Siddharth and Garima about RamLeela and it was a joy to write the piece. This week, I once again was honored with the...

Mumbai, Dec 15: Writer-lyricist Gulzar, who worked with Pandit Ravi Shankar for 1979 movie "Meera", remembers the late sitar maestro as an honest person who was young at heart.
"When I offered 'Meera' to him, he said he will listen to the script when he was in India next and then decide. But I offered to fly down to New York for a day. I went to New York and he agreed. I actually got to travel with Panditji while we did the songs of 'Meera' because there was limited time to do the entire music score. He was doing concert tours," said Gulzar.
The movie featured Hema Malini and Vinod Khanna, and Gulzar, who wrote and directed the project,.

Not too many know this. But the music for India's favourite patriotic song 'Saare Jahan Se Achcha' is composed by (late) Pandit Ravi Shankar! Says Gulzar Saab, "Of course 'Saare Jahan Se Achcha', which every Indian in every part of the world hums, is composed by (late) Pandit Ravi Shankar. It was composed by him when he was associated with the Indian People's Theatre Association (Ipta). And incidentally, the signature tune for Ipta was also composed by Panditji. He was all around us, literally. He also composed the legendary signature tunes for All India Radio and Doordarshan. And if you listen carefully to the signature tune of Doordarshan (lampooned by Hrithik Roshan in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) you'll see it 's actually the same tune as 'Saare Jahan Se Achcha'." Exults Gulzar, "Panditji's talent was as deep and wide as the sky. The Sitar meant Ravi Shankar and Ravi Shankar meant the Sitar.

Shah Rukh Khan has made a highly praiseworthy return as a romantic hero in Yash Chopra’s final directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan. After a brief dry spell in 2011, he has wowed the audiences and critics as the memorable Samar Anand. This can now be added to the list of the most iconic performances he has given in his career so far. Just like many consider Chandni to be Sridevi’s film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan is definitely Shah Rukh’s film, though his co-stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma gave respectable performances as Meera and Akira also. It is one of the few films made by Yashji where his hero is the centrepiece rather than his heroine!
In an interview with Ndtv, Shah Rukh talked about the reason why he has not recently starred in a film alongside two leading heroines, the last being in Yashji’s romantic...

Going into a film knowing its the director’s swan song makes it a whole different experience. It sets up certain expectations, but ones you want it to meet. Their last gift to the world should be as close to perfection as possible, especially when it comes from one of the great and most-loved directors of Indian cinema. Jab Tak Hai Jaan is the final film by Yash Chopra, who passed away a few weeks before its release.
Shahrukh Khan plays Samar Anand, a Indian Army officer, who is part of the bomb disposal team. He has an off-chance meeting with Akira (Anushka Sharma), an intern for National Geographic, who discovers his diary, and begins reading it, which tells his story of his life in London,...

A Love without life, or a life without love? Time is the strongest tests of relationships? Or something like that! Through Dil Toh Paagal Hai, Yash Chopra made famous the ‘someone somewhere is made for you’ belief. With Jab Tak Hai Jaan, he elucidates the concept of timeless love. Every relationship has its time, it’s believed. If something is meant to happen or not is a trick of destiny, all you’ve got to give it is your honest best.
Jthj is the story of Samar Anand (Shah Rukh Khan) tracing his life across a span of around 10 years–one as a young musician in London picking up odd jobs to make a honest yet cheerful livelihood while second as Major Samar Anand of the Indian army, where he’s tagged as ‘the man who cannot die’ owing to his record of diffusing 98 bombs without any bomb suits or safety.

Today is Ranbir Kapoor’s 30th Birthday and we thought in celebration of all things Ranbir we would share with you why we think this young actor totally rocks!
Because he doesn’t think and work in the usual filmi-commercial way. Of course he loves success but he would not sell his soul for it. He would never accept a role he would not love to play even if it most certainly would take him to the (absolutely overvalued) 100-crore club. Instead, he will always choose scripts and roles he is convinced of even if he does not expect a blockbuster from them.
Because of his decision to play those unconventional characters. He has given us such great and diverse characters and outstanding performances in his relatively short career. From his film debut as Ranbir Raj in Saawariya to Raj Sharma in Bachna Ae Haseeno, Sid in Wake Up Sid,...

I happened to watch Cocktail at an extremely crowded press plus crew plus family plus friends show. While you can read my official movie review, as I was thinking about the film some more I wanted to write about some of the other aspects that bothered me about Cocktail. These additional thoughts touch on some points I couldn’t include in a movie review and summarize how Cocktail, which in my opinion could have been a good rom-com, was turned into a series of Bollywood’s formulaic clichés, so much so that the gloss and glycerine could give the Indian TV soaps a run for their money.
But First- I love you, Deepika Padukone! You’ve rocked the part of Veronica and HOWww! *wolf whistles* Have I declared that already???

I am tripping high on Veronica! Could do with another dose & bartender make that a double please!! #Cocktail @Deepikapadukone is Hawt & how!

It’s been another Bollywonderful week – they buzz for Jannat 2 is strong – it’s a very engaging movie and the chemistry between Emraan Hashmi and Randeep Hooda is very strong! Emran was over the moon when we told him he’s the first hero to have three consecutive blockbusters in a row. He is still very unassuming and believes he can only succeed if the script and direction is right. When we joked about who is the best kisser in Bollywood he laughed and whispered that it has to be him! Emran is looking forward to the release of Shanghai opposite Abhay Deol and says his fans will see him in a different light. One thing Emran does want to do is plan for a long awaited holiday with his family in Europe where he will switch his phone off for two weeks and be “normal” for a while.

I have been saying for a long time that I enjoy the short film section as I think that is where the real talent is and they don’t necessarily have the funding we have for full length feature films. They get the opportunity to showcase they work and maybe, impress upon some people and maybe get proper film made.”

When it was announced that Sanjay Dutt would do a cameo in Srk’s Ra.One, many film fans rejoiced, as this will (apart from Sanju’s really short appearance in Om Shanti Om‘s Deewangi Song) actually be the first time for Sanju and Shah Rukh to share screen space. Proceeding from this fact, we were thinking about other actors who never worked together yet in a Hindi film, but whom we very much would love to see together on screen.
Bipasha Basu and Hrithik Roshan
Jodis in Bollywood come in all shapes and sizes, but there is one pairing that is yet to be done that I would love to see – Hrithik Roshan paired opposite Bipasha Basu. I know that Hrithik...

Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Omi Vaidya, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor released in December of 2009 to critical acclaim and huge box office returns. The film has now gone on to be one of the biggest blockbuster films in Hindi cinema history. The DVD released in India in 2010, but it was not until just last week that the DVD finally hit stores in the Us and Canada. To celebrate this we thought it would be fun to take another look at the film a year and halfish later. However, we decided to go a bit different and do a review as a panel discussion. So, with Editor-in-Chief Stacey as moderator, see what happens when five writers at BollySpice.com from four different countries get together to discuss the 3 Idiots!
Stacey: So, how would you describe the story of the film?
Meera: 3 Idiots is about three friends,...

Winds of change are sweeping through urban India, a country traditionally known for its male preference. Many city-dwellers who don't have children of their own are opting for adoption, particularly of girls. Such is the enthusiasm that the waiting period to adopt a girl is as much as it is for a boy, unlike in the past when most couples wanted a boy, says a spokesperson of the Central Adoption Resource Authority (Cara), a wing of the ministry of women and child development. 'The mindset of people is changing, especially young people who don't have a gender bias. There are many socio-economic reasons for adopting a child - late marriage, risk of bearing children at an older age, or simply not being able to conceive,' Sandip Kusalkar, public relations coordinator at Snehalaya, an Ngo based in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, told Ians. 'Here we see young-educated couples from cities opting for...

'No One Killed Jessica' (2011)
Starring Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji
'No One Killed Jessica' relates the true story of the 1999 murder of Jessica Lal, a Delhi model who was bartending at a party at a swanky restaurant when she was shot in the head by Manu Sharma, the son of a powerful politician, for refusing to serve him a drink after last call. There were 300 high-society guests in attendance, but no one would testify to what they'd witnessed—amid evidence they were bribed and threatened—and Sharma was acquitted. Media frenzy surrounded the seven-year trial and the verdict triggered national uproar, including public protests. Because of the intense pressure, the case was eventually reviewed on appeal and Sharma was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. The movie is a tepid telling, with cardboard-cutout characters, of a sensational story.

No One Killed Jessica is a sleek, dramatized, light-hearted at times yet reasonably truthful retelling of Jessica Lall episode. It has all the ingredients of a popular film. Raunchy songs, catchy lines (Ek Karod aur ek goli mein se ek ko chunano ho to kise chunoge?–which one would you choose between Ten Million Rupees and a bullet?) and phrases like (Gaand Phat Ke Haath Mein Aana–difficult to translate) which were waiting to be legitimized in the popular culture! Rajkumar Gupta’s reality-inspired-fiction might not be as deeply derived from facts like his mentor Anurag Kashyap’s “Black Friday” but it has its own triumphs, it’s meant for a far wider audience with its redemptive approach.
For those who aren’t familiar with Jessica Lall case: she was a model who was shot dead by a politician’s son in Delhi at a crowded party for denying him a drink.
