When Cleavon Little and the other servants pull up to rob the grocery store with a fake gun to steal the cash register, the sign on the store reads, "Crown Point Market". Crown Point, Indiana was the town where real life gangster John Dillinger famously broke out of jail using a fake gun.
Arnold Schwarzenegger who appears as Lars, the gym owner who Tony Randall gets the medicine ball from midway through the film refused to take off his shirt for his appearance in the film as he wanted to show off his muscular physique for his starring role in Conan The Barbarian which was being prepped when this film was being made according to Director Michael Schultz in his commentary.
Richard Benjamin based his character on Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner as well as Laurel and Hardy, which was a lot of fun for him. Benjamin felt that the character, like the film, was an event, and played it as such.
Richard Masur worked as an assistant zoo keeper in the Bronx Zoo as a teenager and young adult and used his expertise to handle one of the ostrich's in the scene where his character of Georgie has to move and maneuver the large 250-pound bird from a car to a pen on-screen.
