Wayne Rogers, who starred as the irreverently cantankerous Trapper John on M*A*S*H, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia, his former publicist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 82. Rogers later played a wisecracking doctor on another CBS series, House Calls. In 1975, Rogers left M*A*S*H after three years in a contract dispute and because he felt the writers were slighting Trapper John’s character development. Essentially, his character had become the straight man to Alan Alda’s endearingly wry Hawkeye character. Alda shared his sorrow over Rogers passing on social media. He was smart, funny, curious and dedicated. We made a

Lynn Redgrave, who has died aged 67 following a long fight with breast cancer, enjoyed more than three decades of screen work. Here are some of her best roles
She was born into a theatrical dynasty, the younger child of a distant, driven father, and later claimed that she took up acting to win his love. But Lynn Redgrave – daughter of Michael, sister of Vanessa – would go on to become a star in her own right; one of the most earthy, complex and committed performers of her generation.
Following a supporting slot in Tom Jones, and stage success with the nascent National Theatre, Redgrave struck gold in the title role in Silvio Narizzano's Georgy Girl (1966). Effervescent, naive, loving, downtrodden and insecure in her own body, the character earned the 23-year-old a best actress Oscar nomination and set the tone for many aspects of her persona over the coming years. In this scene,...

Even by the colourful standards of her own family's public profile and professional achievements, Lynn Redgrave, who has died of breast cancer aged 67, was an exceptional personality. Her death seems particularly cruel after the loss of both her niece, Natasha Richardson, after a skiing accident last year, and her brother, Corin Redgrave, last month. The third child of the actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, Lynn was a gifted comedian who received her first Oscar nomination for a delightful, clownish performance in the title role of Georgy Girl (1966), one of the defining movies of the so-called swinging 60s. She went on to spend many years living and working in America. Less politically engaged than her older siblings, Vanessa and Corin, she was no less a remarkable talent.
