The premiere date and episode count for the third season has yet to be announced, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details. Based on what we saw in the second season (new characters, new locations, and new threats), the world of Stranger Things is only going to get bigger the third time around. In the most least surprising news of the of the year, Stranger Things has been renewed for a third season! I know we all knew this was going to happen, but Netflix did officially make the announcement today, so all of you fans can get up and do your happy dance!
There are a couple of things that were not included in the announcement. They don't reveal when Season 3 will be released, and they don't say how many episodes that it will entail. Those things will obviously come as the next season is being developed.
There was a fifteen-month gap between Seasons 1 and 2, so I imagine we can expect to wait around the same amount of time before Season 3 hits.

Prepare for a boatload of Goonies and Back to the Future references: Stranger Things has been renewed for Season 3, Netflix announced Friday. Series co-creators the Duffer Brothers previously confirmed that a potential third season would jump ahead a year (presumably) to 1985, when the aforementioned classics ruled the box office.
“Even if we wanted to hop into the action faster, we couldn’t,” Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter. “Our kids are aging. We can only write and produce the show so fast. They’re going to be almost a year older by the time we start shooting Season 3… [so] it forces...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What is the best TV show — former or current — that handles mental illness well?
Joyce Eng (@joyceeng61), TVGuide.com
“Bojack Horseman,” especially Season 4, is almost peerless when it comes to a raw, honest portrayal of mental health. His depression and anxiety aren’t deployed as plot devices like we’ve seen plenty of times elsewhere; they’re just part of him and none of it is rubbed in your face. He’s allowed to be, break down, self-destruct, and the show never offers quick fixes or easy answers. “Stupid Piece of Sh*t” is a brutal depiction, even if you don’t suffer from depression or anxiety,...

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the first two seasons of “Stranger Things.”]
“Stranger Things” isn’t afraid to kill off certain expendable characters, but in Season 2, the show almost bumped off one beloved person even earlier. While fans were horrified to see nerdy good guy Bob (Sean Astin) become a snack for a pack of hungry demodogs in the penultimate episode, the Duffer Brothers had actually considered a different storyline in which he would’ve died much earlier… and at the hands of someone he knew.
On the Netflix after-show “Beyond Stranger Things,” the Duffers revealed that originally, Will Byers (Noah Schnapps) was going to become gradually evil as he was possessed, be fully evil by Episode 4, and then kill someone midway through the season.

The critically lauded Netflix web-series Stranger Things has returned for a second season and it’s an entertainingly odd sophomore year. Most of the first-year cast is back, along with a few newbies, as the town of Hawkins, Indiana faces more Domogorgons from the Upside-Down. Beware of spoilers.
Many shows that have such a popular first season often start to drop in quality during the second year. Fans will be glad to know that the second season of Stranger Things is just as good as the first. Better in some ways, worse in others, but overall, on the same level, which is good. Since fan expectations were higher this year than they were when the show started, it’s a relief that they didn’t drop the ball. The Spielberg/Steven King quality is still there, and the continuity from year one is good, without rehashing too much.

In the span of 17 episodes, “Stranger Things” has gone from a curiosity to a niche industry all its own. Fans have opinions about entire storylines and lead entire online campaigns for fictional justice. We’re barely a week out of “Stranger Things 2” hitting some milestone ratings, but the time seems right to put some of the series as a whole in perspective.
Enter the time-honored tradition of sorting all of a series’ characters into a neat, tidy hierarchy of greatness. The kids are iconic, the teens are angsty, and a majority of the parents just don’t understand. But how do they all shake up in the great expanse of the “Stranger Things”-iverse?
We compiled this highly scientific consideration.

Last week, “The Crown” revealed that its third season of the royal drama would be jumping forward a few decades in time, and as a result recasting its leads, with the role of Queen Elizabeth II now passing from Claire Foy to Olivia Colman. This inspired the thought — what if “Stranger Things” (a period drama in its own way) pulled a similar move at some point during its run, jumping forward to something close to the modern day? And if it did, who should be enlisted to play the kids of Hawkins, all grown up?
Because perhaps they’ve remained friends over the years. Perhaps they’ve drifted apart. But it’s not hard to imagine strange things continuing to happen to these characters, no matter the time period. So here are our ideal picks for the cast of “Stranger Things 2017,” the kids as well as a few of the adults.

Matt and Ross Duffer have never hidden their inner cinephiles, and Season 2 of “Stranger Things” brings a slew of new homages to horror, action, and adventure films. On top of those are all the ’80s pop culture references essential when making a series set in that decade. Here’s an episode-by-episode breakdown of all the references and homages in the second season (sans music, which will be included in another post).

The action in the Season 2 finale of Stranger Things was, as you’d hope, explosive. And it was also pretty exciting watching Eleven close the gate that gave “Chapter Nine” its title. Because sure, it was important that the door to the Upside Down be shut (and, ideally, dead-bolted). But what really got my heart — and, I’d wager, yours — pounding were the twists of plot that changed so many of our protagonists’ relationships forever. Or at least until Season 3.

Fans only want to know one thing when searching for a spoiler-free review like this one: "Is Stranger Things season two as good as or better than the first run?" The truth is nothing could equal the sense of discovery and nostalgia that the first season captured, but this new instalment beautifully expands upon the existing tale, adding a few additional characters and answering some lingering questions. Although Will somewhat supplants Mike as the emotional core of the show, the existence of parallel storylines, including both familiar pairings and unexpected allies, reminds us of the best storytelling from season one.

In the parlance of Mike Wheeler and friends, Stranger Things Season 2 is the Empire Strikes Back to the first season’s Star Wars, in that it’s a highly anticipated follow-up where the stakes are higher for a band of unlikely heroes. But also because just as Luke Skywalker spent much of that sequel on his own journey, so does Eleven here — which is perhaps the otherwise engaging sophomore season’s only shortcoming.

Darkness is falling across the land and the midnight hour is close at hand, which must mean it’s nearly time for the much-anticipated second season of Netflix’s smash hit horror series, Stranger Things. With the new run due to arrive on the streaming service in slightly over a month’s time, EW has now released a bunch of photos which tease what’s to befall the eerie town of Hawkins this Halloween.
In particular, the images highlight a couple of new additions to the cast and hint at what role they might play. Firstly, Lord of the Rings‘ Sean Astin is joining as Bob Newby, an old school pal of Joyce’s who enters back into her life. When it comes to television, few shows dominated 2016 as much as Netflix’s Stranger Things did. Aside from just being very well made and executed, it introduced the world to a bunch of young actors who proved to be incredibly enjoyable to watch, and kept viewers hooked with some truly thrilling twists and turns that had everyone talking. It was a wild ride the whole way through, that’s for sure, but it did leave us with a ton of questions and unfortunately, we won’t be getting any answers for quite some time.
That’s because the show won’t return for season 2 until October, and with security being amped up to prevent plot leaks, those hoping to find out some of the secrets in advance might be left disappointed. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t get a few goodies along the way, and one such thing...

“Stranger Things” was, hands down, one of 2016’s best series. And fans are counting the days until Halloween, when season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix. We are looking forward to all the adventures and everything that takes places in Hawkins and its alternate upside-down dimension.
The second season of the Netflix original science-fiction/horror series is set in 1984, a year after the first installment. It’s Halloween in Hawkins, Indiana, and Will (Noah Schnapp) has rejoined his friends after being rescued from the Upside Down — but his new life is far from normal.

In this past weekend during the Super Bowl, TV lovers around the country got a taste of the next season of the Netflix original series Stranger Things in the form of a thirty second spot. We got images of our leads clad in Halloween Ghostbusters uniform (it is 1984, after all — and we’re expecting one kid to see “he slimed me” at some point) along with a ton of creepy imagery, with the closing shot of a spider-like creature silhouetted in the clouds and hovering over the city.
Fans, of course, ate the trailer all up. It was exactly what we wanted to see out of a Season 2 teaser. Though while it was big on images, it was sparse on actual plot details. Now, in a new report from EW, we have the first real solid details regarding what to expect from the second season of Stranger Things, and it comes courtesy of the creators,...

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly debuted a new look at the young cast of Netflix’s Stranger Things (including Eleven and her new hairdo) on their latest cover, and now they’ve published an interview with one half of the series’ creative team, Matt Duffer. Though we already had a rough idea of what to expect in terms of the timeline and whatnot, Duffer reveals some intriguing new plot details concerning Will Byers, Sheriff Hopper and a couple of the new characters that’ll be introduced.
For one, it seems we’ll be reconnecting with Will, Lucas, Mike and Dustin almost a full year after the events of the first season, as the boys are preparing for Halloween (see the image above). Outwardly, Will appears to have recovered from his time spent in the Upside Down, but Duffer reveals that he’s experiencing terrifying visions from the other dimension:

Stranger Things may not be coming back until Halloween, but a new image from the second season makes it feel like autumn (and trick-or-treating time) is in full swing.

Stranger Things season 2 begins nearly a year after the first installment, on Halloween in Hawkins, Indiana. (The boys are going as the Ghostbusters, naturally.) Will has rejoined his pals after being rescued from Things’ alternate dimension, the Upside Down. But all is not well with young Mr.

The third installment in the so-silly-it's-awesome "Sharknado" series now has its final lineup and is getting a special premiere week slate of programming, which Syfy announced on Thursday.

30 years ago today, John Hughes's teen movie The Breakfast Club opened in the Us, and although it wasn't a runaway box office hit, in the years since it has rightly claimed a place as a screen classic.
Buoyed by brilliant performances, a sharp script and direction from Hughes and that Simple Minds track, this is a film we return to again and again. But what happened to its stars? We go then and now with the cast to find out what happened to the brain, the athlete, the basket case, the princess and the criminal.
Anthony Michael Hall - Brian Johnson
A staple of John Hughes movies in the '80s, Hall brought endearing geeky charm to National Lampoon's Vacation , Sixteen Candles and Weird Science.
As he grew out of child star roles, Hall sought to shed his established screen persona with a diverse selection of character parts across film and TV.

Exclusive: To get to Tony Danza’s dressing room at the Nederlander Theatre, where he stars in the new Broadway musical Honeymoon in Vegas, you walk a corridor that circles the perimeter of the ancient house, where trash cans line one wall, and graffiti scrawled by Rent cast members dominates the other. Climb a set of stairs, and then there is the star’s cold perch, one that would barely provide room for Michael Keaton’s Birdman levitation act.
You imagine how much smaller this must be than the giant trailers where Danza spent most of his adult life in Taxi and Who’s The Boss. Though it preceded the Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno TV series of The Incredible Hulk, the classic live-action Shazam!, had the same episodic formula with the young Billy Batson (Michael Gray) traveling the country with his mentor (Les Tremayne) looking for rights to wrong. When they encounter such situations, Billy Batson utters the titular exclamation and becomes the man-sized superhero Captain Marvel (Jackson Bostwick). What differentiates Shazam! from The Incredible Hulk is not just the hero, but how the formula is pursued; Shazam! resembles something closer to an after school special on morality than it does an action-heavy drama where Captain Marvel is needed for his super abilities instead of his presence as an authority figure. For nostalgia it might do the trick, but don’t expect anything close to emotional depth or story, because Shazam! has more in common with Leave it to Beaver than it does a superhero series.

Sure, "Diner" is a landmark movie, one that launched numerous careers (including those of Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, Ellen Barkin, and director Barry Levinson). But is it really the most influential movie of the last 30 years? Vanity Fair seems to think so. According to an article in the March 2012 issue, "Diner" -- released 30 years ago today, on March 5, 1982 -- is indirectly responsible for "Seinfeld," "The Office," "Pulp Fiction," and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Such writers as Nick Hornby, Stephen Merchant, and Judd Apatow acknowledge its impact on the way they write scenes that others omit, scenes were guys reveal what matters most to them by chatting over coffee about things that don't matter at all.
