When Redd Foxx returned to the role of Fred Sanford for Sanford (1980), all the events of Sanford Arms (1977) were completely ignored.
After Redd Foxx left Sanford and Son (1972) to star in his own variety series for ABC, the series was set to continue with Demond Wilson (Lamont Sanford) as the lead. Wilson later backed out of the series over what he felt was a low-ball offer from NBC.
Whitman Mayo, Don Bexley, and LaWanda Page were kept on as regular characters in an attempt to cover for the losses of Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson.
The series suffered from low rating and was canceled following a month's worth of episodes. It was not included in the syndication package with its predecessor "Sanford and Son".
