Disney+ isn’t wasting any time getting Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 underway.
While the renewal announcement came just a few days ago, executive producer Jon Steinberg says “there’s a couple of scripts” already in the works.
“They’re in really good shape. I think starting to boot up this machine again is an undertaking. There’s a lot of trains leaving the station all at the same time. But I think we’re feeling really good about creative and about how to plan for how to tell the stories,” he added during the Disney+ series’ panel at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
As with Season 1, Steinberg and executive producer Dan Shotz assured that they are leaning heavily on the book to tell the story. They will also rely on author Rick Riordan and his wife, executive producer Becky Riordan, to adapt Sea of Monsters.

Exclusive: Percy Jackson and the Olympians is firing on all cylinders for Disney+.
The premiere episode of the streamer’s original series, based on the books by Rick Riordan, has now amassed 26.2M views in its first three weeks on Disney+ and Hulu, according to the company. That’s double the viewership it managed in its first week.
Disney says that all five available episodes have surpassed 10M views in their first week on the platform, which seems to stay in line with the premiere’s initial viewership, though some decline is very usual and expected as the season progresses.
The company defines a view as hours viewed divided by runtime, similar to Netflix’s calculation.
Nielsen data for Percy Jackson and the Olympians could be available as early as Thursday, if the first two episodes manage to make it into the streaming top 10 in their first week on the service.

Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri) have been tasked with finding Zeus’ missing master bolt and returning it to Mt. Olympus before the Summer Solstice. If they don’t, Zeus has threatened to unleash the full extent of his wrath and plunge the gods into a war. No pressure or anything.
As if traveling across the United States alone as a group of tweens wasn’t challenging enough, the trio must fight several monsters, and their godly parents’ fragile egos, along the way to Los Angeles and the Underworld – their final destination.
As we wait to see what’s next for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, here’s what you need to know before diving into episode 5 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 4, “I Plunge to My Death.”] Don’t let the episode title fool you. Walker Scobell‘s Percy Jackson does not die in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 4, but the demigod is in the most danger he’s faced so far in the newest installment, streaming now on Disney+. The episode gets its title from Chapter 13 of The Lightning Thief and is one of the major book scenes that fans cite as an unforgivable exclusion from the 2010 film. Bringing the Percy Jackson St. Louis Arch scene to the screen was an important moment for the series. Showrunners and executive producers Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz tell TV Insider it was created with as many practical effects as possible, and Scobell spent hours in underwater training to help make that happen. The episode begins with a flashback scene to Percy’s childhood, bringing Young Percy (Azriel ...

Like Showtime’s recent Dexter: New Blood or USC football’s freshly hired new defensive coordinator, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians comes with a deceptively simple mandate: Just be better than the thing that came immediately before.
Christopher Columbus’ 2010 feature Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was so bad — and, more specifically, the film was such a misconceived adaptation of Rick Riordan’s Greek mythology-fueled novel series — that Disney+’s series need only “come closer” in order to succeed.
And it does!
With Riordan co-creating along with Jonathan E. Steinberg, Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a generally faithful approach to the books. It carefully targets a younger demographic, honoring what’s likably relatable in the source material and delivering a dose of fantastical whimsy, all while making very few outrage-worthy changes.
Is that the same, mind you, as being a good show? Only occasionally.
