Since the start of my loving journey into the gaming world, I’ve always had a huge space in my heart for the old school point and click adventure games. Games such as Monkey Island, Ace Ventura, Broken Sword, Discworld and Simon the Sorcerer. They had such charm in their visual style and comedic scripts that meant they were never flashy with over the top HD, ultra realistic graphics, nor did they need to be. Later on into this genre’s life more and more games became more heavily puzzle based, with games such as Professor Layton being an obvious point of fact.
This genre may not be as popular any longer but is still alive and doing fine, an example of this is the game I’ve been asked to review today Puzzle Agent 2. Created by TellTale Games - the same company that brought the popular franchise Back To The Future...

Some mysteries are better left unsolved. Twin Peaks was far more enjoyable before ABC forced David Lynch’s hand and made him provide answers about his troubled mountain town. The same is true of the Puzzle Agent series before Puzzle Agent 2 attempts to neatly tie up all the loose ends of another mountain town: Scoggins, Minnesota. Taking place the week after 2010’s Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent, PA2 opens with Tethers deciding to take some personal days from the FBI to further investigate the disappearance of factory foreman Isaac Davner. This means two things: Revisiting old friends and locations ...

Like puzzles? Of course you do – after all, at the heart of every gamer in the world lies a little boy or girl doing their first jigsaw puzzle. Well, gamers of a certain age anyway. And this article is probably best aimed at that gaming community. Telltale Games have just released a featurette video introducing the team behind puzzle sequel Puzzle Agent 2, the latest in their line of cleverly-informed titles (following the episodic release of Back To The Future: The Game, and upcomers Jurassic Park and The Walking Dead).
And here is that video…
The game, which is based brilliantly on animations by artist Graham Annable, and follows up preceding title Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent, the self-professed Lynchian/Kubrickian adventure puzzler, that was part Professor Layton, part Fargo. The first was an unpolished gem, which grew a fanbase founded more on its charisma than on any technical finesse or traditional playability,...

If you've been interested in the "Professor Layton-meets-Fargo" world of "Puzzle Agent," but lacked an iPad or didn't want to play on PC, here's hoping you're a PlayStation 3 owner. During a press event, Telltale announced that the Graham Annable-sketched puzzle game would make its console debut this spring.
Telltale also announced the game's sequel, "Puzzle Agent 2," will release for PC, Mac, PlayStation Network, and iOS devices this summer. The story picks up where the last game left off, with the Department of Puzzle Research's Nelson Tethers returning to the town of Scoggins, Minnesota. Apparently, the sequel focuses on a mysterious force that's haunting the town, and will amount to a conclusion of the current story arc.
"Puzzle Agent" receiving a sequel is of important note, as the game was the first instance of Telltale's "pilot program," which aims to test new, unknown properties by releasing a single episode into the game market.

It's fitting that the first game in Telltale Games' new Pilot Program is one of its most adventurous. I suppose it's also apt that the inaugural title "Puzzle Agent," from a critical perspective, is one of the studio's most dumbfounding games.
The Basics
At its best, "Puzzle Agent" is a middling and dreary-toned point-and-click adventure title with an emphasis on one-off logic puzzles. At its worst, it's a frustratingly difficult point-and-click adventure title shackled to a formula that has you solving logic-based puzzles in a predictable story-puzzle-dialogue-puzzle loop.
Wrapped around the puzzles is the game's bizarre, cold, and quirk-filled Scoggins, Minnesota. As FBI puzzle agent Nelson Tethers, you'll be pulled out to the somber town to investigate the baffling closing of an eraser plant. And while this sounds like the setup to a great detective mystery, it isn't; puzzles are just a vehicle to keep the game's on-rails dark, brooding,...

Telltale Games has single-handedly helped revive the point-and-click adventure genre with titles like "Sam and Max" and "Tales of Monkey Island." For that, they remain close to our hearts. The developer's latest game, "Puzzle Agent," takes a similar, lighthearted approach to puzzle-heavy click-fests like "Professor Layton." It's out now for PC, with versions coming to iPad, iPhone, Mac and elsewhere soon.
The game follows Nelson Tethers, an FBI agent sent to the strange town of Scoggins, Minnesota to investigate the unplanned shutdown of the town's lone eraser factory. He arrives in the dead of winter to discover there's something more sinister going on. For one thing, there are garden gnomes everywhere, and that's just creepy.
Sticking close to the "Professor Layton" mold, "Puzzle Agent" has you clicking around to explore the town and solve a variety of logic puzzles. For example, can you find a path to your hotel by...

Growing up, I was always a huge fan of point-and-click style adventure games. There were so many classic titles with their outlandish premises and likable heroes. They also offered some very serious storytelling that was pretty ahead of the time for the kinds of stories conveyed to gamers. And then there were games like Phantasmagoria. Thankfully, Secret Files: Tunguska is not Phantasmagoria (although I would like to see some sort of follow up on that title). It is set to release on Nintendo’s platforms this month. You may remember the game released on the PC back in 2006, which was not exactly the height of the PC adventure game.
The plot of the game revolves around a young woman, Nina Kalenkov, investigating the disappearance of her father who was involved in some kind of secret (ooh spooky) research in the Tunguska region of Russia. The trailer doesn’t really do...

I’m a sucker for strange, offbeat games. Recently, I’ve been playing a lot of Professor Layton And The Diabolical Box, so when I saw the trailer for the forthcoming Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent, needless to say, I got rather excited.
Coming from TellTale Games, the company behind the Sam & Max series and the recently announced episodic Jurassic Park, it’s no surprise that there will be a heavy emphasis on puzzle-solving, and extremely difficult puzzle-solving at that. Take a look at the brand new trailer below to get a look at more of the story along with a few glimpses of gameplay.
The first thing that you should notice upon viewing the trailer is the beautiful, hand-drawn art style. Too many games these days are relying on hyper-realistic CGI, when a simple art style can be just as effective. Of course, this varies from game to game.

Two highly-anticipated retail titles head up this week’s update in addition to a number of demos available through the Psn.
Heavy hitter retail titles BioShock 2 and Dante’s Inferno will both be unleashed onto retail shelves this Tuesday.
BioShock 2 is expected to provide a very similar experiences to its predecessor. The visuals haven’t changed much (though they didn’t really need to), the story is still immersive, and the developers added an intriguing multiplayer component that has garnered positive reactions. BioShock 2 is a great addition to the Q1 offerings. Expect Game Rant’s full written review to go live very soon.
Dante’s Inferno has a lot going for it – a lot of which was copied straight from the God of War franchise. The gameplay is action packed, the environments and characters show great diversity as Dante makes his way through the different circles of hell. Though, the...
