I can understand why people think that this is a bad movie and a rip-off. Truly, it's an EXORCIST rip-off, but it's a competent one. I mean, like another reviewer said, the Italians love to try and make stylish rip-offs of American horror. They succeeded with Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE, so why not THE TEMPTER? THE TEMPTER is a stylish rip-off of THE EXORCIST. I mean, some rip-offs are just complete retreads of the films they're ripping off. But for the rip-off to be a stylish one, it has to include a scene/new idea that wasn't elaborated on or even introduced in the film that they're ripping off. I felt more closely attached to Ippolita then I did to Regan. Maybe it's time for me to see THE EXORCIST again, but I just enjoyed THE TEMPTER more. The pretty Italian scenery, the sets, the costumes. It all just added to the stylish rip-off that THE TEMPTER was trying to be. Very good work. ***out of****For a stylish, competent rip-off of a classic horror film. Not to mention the fact that we Americans reportedly viewed the cut version on the Embassy Cult Classics Lable.
