Heera is Sultan Ahmed's first Production, Sultan Ahmed was encoradged by his Guru K Asif to make his own film. When Sultan Ahmed signed Sunil Dutt, who was out of work and was going through bad phase. Heera became a hit when released and Sunil Dutt was back to limelight.
Asha Parekh's last film as a young heroine, which she shot when she was thirty. It was not an easy time for her, since her frequent director and boyfriend Nasir Hussain stopped giving her lead heroine roles that same year, because of her age. He gave the lead heroine role to Zeenat Aman in Procession of Memories (1973) and offered the secondary role to Asha, who rejected it. Nevertheless, the "Hit Girl" as she was called, since she starred in many hit films, ended her career as a lead heroine in a burst of glory, since "Heera" was a hit film. After this film, she did senior roles and supporting roles. She titled her 2017 memoir "The Hit Girl".
The film's heroine Asha Parekh and villain Shatrughan Sinha had worked together before on Sajan (1969). Sinha stopped talking to her on that set, because of a misunderstanding. He ignored her on "Heera" as well. Many years later, he felt that his behavior was immature and recommended her to an important post. She called to thank him and they started talking again. He said that she was "very gracious about it". In 2017, he came to support the launch of her memoir "The Hit Girl".
