The directorial debut of author and journalist Vittorio Schiraldi, his sole narrative feature film. His only other directing credit is a documentary, Lettere dal fronte (1975).
The film was part of the "poliziotteschi" trend of Italian cinema, crime and action films that cashed-in on the success of American movies like Dirty Harry (1971) and The Godfather (1972). Appropriately, several actors in the film were involved in "The Godfather" franchise: Corrado Gaipa played Don Tommasino in The Godfather (1972) and Marino Masé played Giorgio Lupo in The Godfather Part III (1990). John Saxon was on the shortlist to play Sonny Corleone before James Caan was cast.
Italian censorship visa # 61963 delivered on 23 February 1973.
