Exclusive: Fleabag EPs Harry and Jack Williams have said they wanted to “go back to something simple and primal” with upcoming BBC series Boat Story, which comes at the back-end of an “era of peak TV when you start to feel every story is being told.”
Jack Williams joked that the storied writer-producers “didn’t turn the dial but feel we broke the dial” on the upcoming series, which is produced by the Williams’ All3Media-backed drama label Two Brothers Pictures and is a pivotal part of distributor All3Media International’s catalog at this week’s Mipcom Cannes.
The show stars a rotating cast of actors that the Williams’ have worked with over the years including Back to Life co-creator Daisy Haggard, Noughts + Crosses’ Paterson Joseph and Tchéky Karyo (The Missing), along with BAFTA-winner Joanna Scanlan. The offbeat thriller follows Janet (Haggard) and Samuel (Joseph) as they clutch on to...

Sergio Calderón, the amiable Mexican character actor who made his mark in such notable films as The In-Laws, Men in Black and Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End, has died. He was 77.
Calderón died Wednesday in a Los Angeles hospital of natural causes, a family spokesman announced.
Calderón portrayed a Mexican revolutionary at the turn of the 20th century in Duck, You Sucker! (1971), written and directed by Sergio Leone, and was a murderous Mexican chief of police opposite Albert Finney in John Huston’s Under the Volcano (1984).
He guest-starred as the colorful bandit Malavida Valdése on the premiere episode of NBC’s The A-Team in 1983, then returned as the river pirate El Cajón (The Coffin) at the start of the show’s third season a year later.

Filmmaker Jennifer Kaitlyn Robinson’s Netflix thriller “Do Revenge” starts out like the classic Hitchcock film “Strangers on a Train,” but then quickly morphs into its own thing, complete with a stacked young ensemble. Set at the bougie Rosehill Country Day high school, the story follows two very different young women who find themselves hurting after being mistreated. The two girls decide to team up and get back at each other’s nemeses, bringing about a fun and twisted film full of famous faces.
Fans of the cast members — who have named themselves The Revengers — may be wondering where they’ve seen them before. Check out our complete “Do Revenge” cast and character guide below.

Kathryn Merteuil may hate when things don’t go her way, but thanks to “Do Revenge” writer-director Jennifer Kaityn Robinson, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s iconic “Cruel Intentions” character has a whole new life, now revived as the ultimate queen bee: a prep school principal who trims a bonsai tree when she (rarely) feels out of control.
“She was my first dream choice,” Robinson told IndieWire about Gellar’s casting almost 25 years after the beloved 1999 film debuted. “And it was one of those things where you don’t think she’s going to do it. I was like, ‘Yeah, of course, let’s offer it to her and see what happens.’ You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take. But when she said yes, I was flabbergasted and so excited.”
Robinson added, “I will say, her saying yes was kind of co-signing this movie, and made me feel like we were doing something right.

Don’t mess with Maya.
Maya Hawke leads Netflix dark comedy “Do Revenge” alongside Camila Mendes, about popular high schooler Drea (Mendes) who seeks retaliation against her ex-boyfriend (Austin Abrams of “Euphoria” fame) after a very public sexting scandal. Enter: Eleanor, played by Hawke, who also has a score to settle involving a rumor she tried to “hold down” another classmate and kiss her.
“I know what it’s like to get fucked over by someone you thought you could trust,” Hawke says in the candy-colored trailer reminiscent of “Thoroughbreds.”
She adds of her target, “I want to burn her to the ground.”
Co-written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, “Do Revenge” is billed as a “subverted Hitchcockian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.” The film premieres September 16 on Netflix.
Drea and Eleanor channel their “Glenn-ergy” circa Glenn Close’s character in “Fatal Attraction” and set...

The next installment in the story of the God of Thunder will arrive in November of 2021 with Thor: Love And Thunder.
When we last caught up with the Asgardian, he was departing Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy after defeating the Mad Titan Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. But soon, Chris Hemsworth will return to play everyone’s favorite hammer-wielding hero in Thor: Love And Thunder and we now have some leaked plot details to pass along, courtesy of 4chan.
While we advise taking this with a grain of salt, many 4chan leaks in the past have proven to be accurate and a lot of this does sound plausible. With that being said, let’s get to the possible spoilers. First off, it’s said that the film’s villain, Dario Agger – known to fans in the comics as the Minotaur and head of the Roxxon Corporation – will be played...

The Thor franchise underwent a remarkable transformation once Taika Waititi was handed the keys to the Asgardian kingdom for third installment Ragnarok. The God of Thunder’s first two solo outings were functional and workmanlike at best, and there likely weren’t many people who would have named Thor as their favorite Avenger.
That all changed in Ragnarok though, with director Waititi making the most of both his irreverent sense of humor and star Chris Hemsworth’s charisma and comic timing to deliver a laugh-out-loud intergalactic buddy movie that stands comfortably as one of the finest installments in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Luckily for fans, recent Academy Award winner Waititi agreed to return, making Thor the first standalone franchise in the McU to get a fourth entry, and he’s promised that the upcoming Love and Thunder will double down on the insanity.

When I was a wee one, we used to live right behind a valley that skirted our town. In the summer my friends and I would be out after dark running around the neighborhood, on one condition: we had to take tennis rackets with us. Why you ask? Well, because of the bats, you see; swooping around the street lights with the occasional dive towards an unsuspecting victim, we were forever on the lookout for the winged mammals. Now, we never had to try out our serves; but I’ve always been leery of the buggers (even at the movies) and the interesting sci-fi/horror hybrid Chosen Survivors (1974) does not change my opinion one little bit.
