Ted V. Mikels, a grindhouse legend and B-movie mainstay for decades, passed away in his Las Vegas home on October 16, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The cause of death hasn’t been specified beyond mention of a “long illness,” but it is known that the 87-year-old filmmaker known for such films as “Girl in Gold Boots,” “The Astro-Zombies” and “The Doll Squad” will leave a lasting legacy in his corner of the film world.

Pardon the blasphemy, but Jesus H. Christ, who the hell decided it would be a good idea to release Ted V. Mikels Worst film on DVD? The bigger question would be why the hell did I decide to even review this film? If it ranks as one of the worst Ted V. Mikels films And one of the worst films ever to grace MST3K (some would say it made for the worst episode of that show too), why would anyone in their right mind give Girl in Gold Boots the time of day?
I asked myself that question throughout each and every painful minute of this film…
I can understand why 88 Films saw fit to release Blood Orgy of the She Devils and The Corpse Grinders...

We’re playing catch-up here on Nerdly – after a busy 2 weeks prepping for and then attending this years Frightfest there’s a number of weekly-release reviews to bring you up to speed on. So here they are, reviews of The Cabin, Blood Orgy of the She Devils and The Longest Week.
The Cabin
Another one of those straight to DVD films that make up 99% of the horror films on sale at supermarkets, with the same generic cover art and shiny slipcase, The Cabin is destined to get mixed up with all the other cabin/lodge/house movies on the market when, in fact, it doesn’t deserve to – this film has little to do with the titular abode and more to do with the main characters bloodline (the original title of the movie) and his relationship with his faith.
The film tells the story of seminary student Brett Ethos (Matt Thompson...

A rousing cocktail of bombs and bikinis, topped with a slick 70s score, The Doll Squad (ask Seduce and Destroy) was produced, directed, written and edited by low-budget exploitation mogul Ted V. Mikels, the man responsible for The Corpse Grinders (1971) and Blood Orgy of the She-Devils (1974).
Pre-dating the likes of Charlies Angels (which was clearly influenced by Mikels’ feature), the film sees a group of female special agents brought together by the CIA for a special mission after a space shuttle launch is sabotaged by the megalomaniacal Eamon O’Reilly. The titular Doll Squad are tasked with bringing down O’Reilly and his private army which has warned that if its demands are not met it will strike again. Closing in...

Recently on television in the UK there was a show about what is in your pet’s food, and how shocked you would be. They missed a trick with that by not showing The Corpse Grinders afterwards. I’m not saying there are people in real pet food, but documentaries such as that are sensationalised tabloid style shows that people fall for. The Corpse Grinders though is a 1971 Grindhouse film that is being released on DVD by 88 Films featuring corpse grinding, cats with a taste for flesh and bad acting.

In 1971 director Ted V. Mikels brought the world the cult classic The Corpse Grinders. In 2000 he returned with a sequel cleverly titled The Corpse Grinders 2. Now Mikels is going to the well for a third time with - you guessed it - The Corpse Grinders 3!
This time, though, Mikels will only be serving as executive producer as he's turned the directorial reins over to Manolito Motosierra. John Martino, Richard Lester, and Pedro García Oliva star in the movie. which is set to make its DVD debut on May 28, 2013.
Thanks to DC reader Avery G for the heads-up!
Synopsis
An American entrepreneur comes to Spain to build a new Lotus Cat Food factory and establishes the company in a small Spanish town. The new Lotus doesn’t do too well until they accidentally add a special ingredient to the food — human flesh, ground up into a mash. Soon the...

Yes, you read that headline right – the legend that is Ted V. Mikels, director of such Grindhouse classics as The Corpse Grinders and Blood Orgy of the She-Devils, is back behind the camera for Astro Zombies M4: Invaders From Cyberspace, the Fourth film in the Astro Zombies series… I didn’t even know there was a third film!
According to producers Tvm Global Entertainment and Blue Heron International Pictures, Mikels has begun development on the film, which already has a teaser trailer in the bag (above). Says Mikels:
Astro-Zombies M4: Invaders From Cyberspace is now officially in development, I have identified a few key production staff members and we have begun story development.
According to Blue Heron, Mikels has named veteran screenwriter Cory Udler and Florida filmmaker Gary Lester as his creative story consultants, along with veteran Tvm Studios actress, Shanti. Gary Lester will also serve as assistant director under Mikels,...

(This film was sent to Bad Lit as a screener from the 2010 Boston Underground Film Festival, which runs March 25-April 1.)
After a bombastic opening credits sequence and an introduction that promises tons of gratuitous and sleazy sex, nudity and violence, the documentary American Grindhouse settles into something really hardcore: A hardcore history lesson.
Directed by Elijah Drenner, this chronicle of the seedy underbelly of film history does a damn fine job of showing how the notorious exploitation cinema racket is really the history of all cinema, that even from the days of Thomas Edison, all movies focused on the salacious and the bloodthirsty in order to draw in audiences. However, it is the grindhouse films that makes no bones about appealing to prurient interests while so-called mainstream films hide their licentious side under the cover of art.

You know, if I was a famous French film critic I would be in a position to use big fancy words to describe why a film like The Undertaker And His Pals should be reconsidered as an American classic. Why it should be considered a not-so-subtle satire on our obsessions with food and death, and how it breathes new life into the hardboiled detective genre. Of course no one would read it for say 20 years, and by then I would have found some other obscure gem to rave over.
Fortunately I have a different platform from which I can shout my views, and one of them, for better or worse, is The Undertaker And His Pals should be viewed by anyone who seriously is interested in dark satire or who has a interest in the “cannibal cuisine” movies that carve up victims and then serve them to their customers or guests.

The folks at New York City’s Two Boots Pioneer Theater (155 East 3rd Street and Avenue A) let Fango know that a new guest is taking part in its Schlocktober series of horror screenings. Veteran B-movie-meister Ted V. Mikels (pictured) will do a special phone-in intro for the Saturday Splatter Show that plays tomorrow, October 18 at 10 p.m.
The program consists of Son of the New York Grindhouse Trailer Show, featuring coming attractions for all manner of horror and exploitation fare, followed by Mikels’ best-known feature, 1972’s The Corpse Grinders, about a couple of cat-food-company owners who start putting everyone’s favorite secret ingredient into their product. And it’ll all be screened from 35mm prints. Also worth noting at the Two Boots this weekend is the world premiere of Ivan Zuccon’s H.P. Lovecraft-inspired Colour From The Dark, starring Fango Radio’s own Debbie Rochon on Sunday,...
