Sex & Nudity

  • woman's breasts and pubic region, boy's buttocks, and a large group of naked boys

Violence & Gore

  • A lengthy scene runs during the opening credits, in pencil drawings, of many people being killed in bizarre ways such as penetration by objects, horns, and talons, some of the situations are sexual.
  • Rated 12+ in France in 1981. Do you think they did that to traumatize children on purpose? For pure joy? That would be sadistic. They worked with science based fact probably, and we can only guess they took a desicion based upon that, not feelings.
  • The bull scene is disgusting, but it's shot in a way that makes you think that news on TV is so much worse, but with no age rating at all! The french desicion of 12 years, previously 13, which even the poster states, makes sense. I say 12 or 13+. French speaking Quebec in Canada has rated it 13+ aswell.
  • a bulls throat is brutally hacked open with a large knife. the camera lingers on the sight for nearly a minute as steaming blood pours out everywhere. the bull struggles and twitches as it bleeds to death. a woman rolls around the floor covered in blood. the bulls testicles are then cut off. a man is sewn into the bulls disembowled carcass and his face is smeared in blood.
  • a man is buried to his neck in the sand and his head is trampled by galloping horses. not very graphic or gory.
  • men are gunned down by soldiers and one man has a gun pressed into his butt and is shot.
  • many scenes of bizzare, violent images in the form of dream sequences. these scenes are color filtered and not overly graphic or bloody. these scenes include: a priest is castrated and his balls fed to him. (again, not explicitly shown) people tortured by masked men. whipped, etc., nothing extreme.
  • an operation is performed on a young boy. actual operation footage is inserted into the scene. it includes the cutting of tissue and muscle. very graphic.
  • not a violent film in terms of physical violence or acts of violence like murder (with the exception of the bull scene and a few others). the violence is more psychological and internal. many acts of bizzare behavior.

Profanity

  • not alot of profanity. faggot is used once.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • characters drink alcohol. a young boy smokes a ciggarrette in one scene.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • death by execution, death by hanging
