Spaghetti/Paella adventure , co-produced by Italy/Spain about Sandokan and followers against Lord Brook and the British empire
ma-cortes7 May 2017
Adventure movie in exotic scenarios filled with action , emotion and spectacular battles . This Sandokan entry was decently directed by Mario Sequi with an European cast and it contains rousing action , romantic adventure , mayhem and a fine cast doing a nice job . In ¨Sandokan Tigre De Mompracem¨ , our hero is well played by Rassimov who stands out his strong , piercing eyes and striking look , he fights an evil ruler , the nefarious Sir Charles Brooke . It really benefits in filming on location in Borneo and tells the tale of Sandokan who is a Malaysian prince who , with a group of renegades , goes up against an ominous governor . The rightful heir to the throne of Malaysia teams up with a bunch of rebels and square off a nasty enemy during the 1800 . Exciting story of love and adventure , the complete romance and the exotic events about the stalwart hero based on novels by Emilio Salgari . As English military harass and submit the native people . Later on , Sandokan , lord of Malaysia , is wrongly imprisoned and slavered into the salt mines . There he meets and befriends his future followers , the Portuguese friend Yañez (Andrea Bosic) and Tremal-Naïk (José Torres) . Meantime , his father , Maharaja of Sarawak (Nero Bernardi), is doublé-crossed by Maharaja Varauni (José María Caffarel) . When Sandokan learns his father and sibling have been killed he sets off to seek vengeance and claim his land back . Sandokan escapes from penitentiary using a machine gun and sets out in pursuit enemies accompanied by his underlings . In Mompracem Sandokan unites diverse tribes : Dayakos , Bengalís , Malaysian , and subsequently he infiltrates into governor palace , there he kidnaps the niece (Claudia Gravy) of Oriental Indian Company Chief , Lord Guillonk (Angel Menéndez). Along the way Sandokan takes on several dangers and , finally , takes place a spectacular battle at an enemy outpost against Lord Brooke and his hoodlums who are trying to carry out the villagers' execution .

This is a Spanish/Italian attempt to match the US adventures spectacles of the mid-sixties and early seventies , containing derring-do , sword-play , spectacular battles , gorgeous outdoors , being quite entertaining and it boasts a nice cast . Being a so-so but acceptable European co-production between Italy and Spain . It's a fiery as well as adventurous outing that makes little sense but bulges with emotion maintained throughout . It is a grade-B flick with noisy adventures , emotion , slavery , breathtaking ship attacks , guns provoking a lot of deaths , and many other things . The flick packs enjoyable as well as exotic atmosphere , luxurious gowns , evocative sets , alright cinematography and powerful score . Lots of intrigue , treason , luxurious scenarios , twists and turns . It is an entertaining oriental movie , full of action, thrills , betrayal and , of course , a lot of duels and fights . It's one of several adventures-action pictures made in Europe that such Spanish/Italian stars giving sympathetic performances , as the main star cast : Rassimov and the beautiful Claudia Gravy as damsel in distress . Ivan had a fruitful career until his recent death , though was often cast as villains , from Nazi soldiers , gunfighters , to two-fisted guys , to murder suspects . Rassimov also occasionally played good guys and saw it as a novelty item from his bad guy roles . From playing a police detective , a cowboy , an archaeologist , and even a psychiatrist in Mario Bava's last theatrical movie , Shock or Beyond the door (1977). Ivan starred some Spaghetti Westerns as Django , If you want to live..shoots , Cowards Don't Pray , Non Sspettare Django, Spara and Cjamango . He was most often seen as a male hero of the Italian cannibal films in acting alongside Me Me Lai in three of them , most notably being Man from deep river , Jungle Holocaust and Eaten alive . In addition , an agreeable secondary cast , as the marvelous main actors are completed by a stellar cast full of veteran Spanish/Italian players as Ángel Menéndez , José Maria Caffarel , Cris Huerta , José Torres , Mimmo Palmara as Man Saved from Crocodiles and special mention for Luis Davila as Lord Brooke . Splendid color in Technnicolor and Techniscope , including appropriate cinematography by Emio Foriscot . Being shot on location in Borneo , Madrid , Rome and other exotic places . Moving score by Angelo Francesco Lavagnino , including evocative music and some sounds in oriental style . Decent writing and production by Eduardo Manzanos Brochero and his production company , Copercines . This one was a popular film by that time , getting big success at European Box office . The motion picture was professionally directed by Mario Sequi . He was a good craftsman who made all kind of genres , as he directed Spaghetti Western such as "The Tramplers" ¨, action : ¨El Cobra¨ , comedy : ¨Roman scandals¨ , ¨La Verginella¨ and dramas : ¨Cronaca Di Un Delitto¨ and Hechizo Tragico¨.

Other pictures about this fictitious personage are the followings : Sandokan the Great" (1963) by Lenzi with Steve Reeves as Sandokan , Geneviève Grad as Mary Ann , Andrea Bosic as Yañez ; and its sequel ¨Pirati della Malesia¨ (original title) by Umberto Lenzi with Steve Reeves again ; ¨Sandokan Fights Back¨ (1964) with Ray Danton , Guy Madison , Mario Petri , Alberto Farnese, Franca Bettoia . And TV ¨Sandokan¨ directed by Sergio Sollima , a very popular series of the 70s , with Kabir Bedi , Philippe Leroy and Adolfo Celi . And finally "The return of Sandokán" (1996) , ¨Il Figlio Di Sandokan" (1998) , TV series played by Kabir Bedi and directed by Enzo G Castellari .
