The only film James Cagney, the narrator, worked on during his long retirement from 1961-81. He did it as a favor to the film's producer, A.C. Lyles, a longtime friend.
The film is set during the American Civil War (1861-65). Ike Clanton is killed early on. The real Ike Clanton was killed in 1887, and was famous for his participation in the 1881 "Gunfight at the OK Corral" in Tombstone, AZ, that involved Wyatt Earp. His family did not move to the Arizona territory until after the war ended. The real Ike Clanton would have been under 20 years of age circa 1865, as he was born in 1847. James Craig was 56 when he played Clanton.
